Christianity is the most factionalized religion on the planet. Nothing else even comes close, and this splintering continues apace. It is a situation people have grown used to and seldom stop to think about how strange it is to worship a God who supposedly willed the universe into existence, but when it came to the most important message imaginable, couldn't make himself understood. Personally, I don't care what the SBC does just as long as they stay out of government, and away from me. Left in the hands of religious conservatives, the steam engine would be a distant dream.

So what did we learn? Mostly that the Southern Baptist Convention is a load of misogynistic assholes who don't like oversight as it comes to their behavior out of the pulpit, particularly of a sexual nature. Clearly, they've taken 1 Timothy 2:11-12 and 1 Corinthians 14:35-36 to heart, not EVER having a woman in authority over a man. Worse, they are so enamored of the life of a collection of inchoate cells that In Vitro Fertilization has been declared anathema to them, which will fly in the face of Baptist couples struggling to have a child. Oh, and if Reverend Hotpants has been getting a little on the side with one of his congregants? Just look the other way. Nothing to see here, folks, move on, move on.

We learned, all right ... that the SBC is an atavistic organization, determined to root itself in the 19th century, while the rest of us live in the 21st.
