Things this monumentally stupid do not fill me with hope for the future of our species. I don't know which is worse, the argument itself or the expectation it might actually be believed. I live in Texas. Greg Abbott and his fellow Republicans never stop pandering to the religious right, while viewing human decency as a character flaw. It's all theater with Abbott. One stunt after another, with cruelty being the only point, and all of it served up with his big sloppy smile.

Razor wire and circular saw blades is how Noah kept drowning sinners off the Ark.

"Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I’m just a caveman. I fell on some ice and later got thawed out by some of your scientists. Your world frightens and confuses me! Sometimes the honking horns of your traffic make me want to get out of my BMW.. and runoff into the hills, or wherever.. Sometimes when I get a message on my fax machine, I wonder: “Did little demons get inside and type it?” I don’t know! My primitive mind can’t grasp these concepts. But there is one thing I do know..."

For a group of folks who are so focused on the stories of Sodom and Gomorra, they really don’t know what the problem god had with those cities. And they’re also so hell bent on forcing Jesus on everyone, they can’t comprehend his supposed message.

We should throw Abbott and DeSantis to The Hague and let them try them for crimes against humanity. Both men are terrorists that somehow managed to get elected to state office with aspirations for federal (IIRC DeSantis was in Congress before becoming governor, and we all know his aspirations are higher than that.) they deserve to be locked up not running shit. They are an embarrassment to the country, right up there with Trump. Hell, Nixon is an angel compared to these three.

Civilized countries do not line their borders with razor wire. Civilized countries do not put deathtraps out of a cheap gore thriller in their rivers.

This? This shit right here? This mustache-twirling villainy, this naked, sadistic cruelty, this gleeful slaughter of empathy, this indulgent exercise of power against the powerless for power's sake...

...this is what 𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 do.

The laughable idiocy of their arguments has never stopped GOP lawmakers or their lawyers from using them to defend and justify their greed, cruelty, bigotry, and hate.

We will remain a savage and barbaric people as long as ancient religions hold sway over the minds of a large portion of the populace. There are fewer of them every day, but as their numbers diminish, their acceptance of savagery and barbarity increases.

"It’s even more disturbing that they’re citing the Old Testament."

I’ve long been astonished that Christians can claim with a straight face that, yes, the Yahweh of the Old Testament was a petty, vengeful, murderous jerk, but that everything was set right by Jesus (according to the fanfic of his most devoted followers, known as the New Testament). But that’s got it exactly backwards.

Sure, if you did something that pïssed off the easily irritated Yahweh, he’d smite you where you stood, plus your family and half the innocent bystanders in the surrounding county as collateral damage. But that was it. Dead. Done. Finito. Period. Game Over. Sayonara. Hasta la vista. It wasn’t until Jesus came along that they invented the concept of “No no no, my friend, we’re gonna fry your sorry äss FOREVER! And not just for the actions you actually performed but for some of those naughty little THOTS you’ve been having!”

Think about it. Which of these 2 arrogant, flaming sadists was actually worse?

Where's Matt Gaetz? ;)

Hey, Rethuglikkkans....

You gonna cite your bible on this abhorrent decision? Here's your god telling you how to treat foreigners/immigrants. And right in your beloved Leviticus, too:

"When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God."

-- Leviticus 19:33-34

First off, everyone involved in this saw blade thing needs to be put on a watch list, this is some horror movie stuff. Secondly any legal paperwork that cites the bible as a historical text should be thrown out immediately. Lastly I hope Governor Abbot slips and sits on a Coke bottle and has to explain it to the ER staff who won't believe him and then tell everyone about it. The end.

You know what! I don’t care if Abbott is legally allowed to police this river or not, he’s not so fuck hum anyway, the things he is doing, razor wire on the banks, circular saw blades on buoys, pushing children back into the river, should be and mostly is illegal, even for the state protecting the border. This man is a monster. The people of this country need to hold him accountable. Not just Texans, the entire country. He’s a genocidal maniac parading as a patriot. He’s disgusting.

James 2:14-17: What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

They're not just ignoring the suffering of refugees and migrants. They are ADDING to the suffering.

What use is your "faith" and "religion", Texas residents?

This is hateful people who see immigrants as 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯 trying to find justification to torture and kill them. 160 years ago they were justifying slavery the same way. In the 1930s, they would be finding things in the bible to justfy Nazi rallies in the US. They need to be removed from office and stripped of any power over others.

To the GQP and TPPA...

Unless I woke up in a Christian theocracy this morning, your bible and religious beliefs don't amount to squat. You are breaking the law. You know. The law you are supposed to obey, according to your own Romans 13:1-5.

Oh, but there's that bible again.

Those buoys are something I honestly expect to cost the state of Texas more than they'll ever be worth trying to keep people out. I fully expect some enterprising individual to come up with a way to completely destroy them or otherwise render them ineffective fairly quickly. I also expect the state of Texas to be unable or unwilling to make any kind of change to them now that they're in.

It never ceases to amaze me how the modern Christian power machine just doesn't care when something they do causes death, but claims to have cornered the market on 'family values'. Clearly, that last bit must not have ever meant what I thought it did; I'm just glad I got out.

America is a paradox. We have some of the finest institutions of higher learning in this country. We have sent satellites to remote planets in our galaxy. And yet there are those who still take the Book of Genesis (as well as the entire Bible) literally. Stupidity must be bliss.
