Once again, if radical Christians don't feel as though they can win, they cheat. Worse, they illegally use a 501(c)(3) organization toward a political purpose: the disempowerment of Democratic voters and the installation of a Christian theocracy. I find myself astonished at how desperate they are, the lengths they're willing to go to in order to dismantle the democracy which guarantees them the freedom of speech to slur our government, when the replacement they propose could very possibly muzzle them in favor of someone else's idea of the perfect faith.
Foolish, short-sighted, and wrong in more ways than I would care to count.
Fortunately, the long game does not favor them. They are trying to accomplish through the force of law what they have failed to achieve from their pulpits. If anything, they are hastening the demise of religion as a political force in this country.
One can only hope, and we are a LONG way from the finish line. Presuming there even IS a finish line. Sorry to be a downer, but I keep coming back to Tim Gill and his statement that this is a never-ending battle.
And I'm becoming more and more convinced that he is right.
A good part of western Europe is effectively post-Christian, and that's not going to change. If you want to fill the churches, tell people they're not allowed to go. If you want to empty them, tell people they have to attend.
I'm not sure it has anything to do with how many people attend church. If they have corrupt people in the electoral college who will put Trump in this November, then Trump will give them the power that they are looking for. Then they can start mandating laws and Trump will sign off on it. I don't think they give a shit about the people in the pews. They are just there to get them through the next election. After that, they will not have any need for them or us . I sure hope somebody comes up with a plan that will stop them. We are certainly taking a huge hit this news cycle.
These people have been playing the long game since the Reagan administration. Heritage Foundation - Opus Dei -The Federalist Society - Ziklag. They will stop at nothing to overturn democracy.
If Americans wanted to be ruled by the preachers, every church in the country would be filled to over flowing. This isn't what's happening. Church attendance is at an all time low and less than 50% of Americans now claim any kind of religious affiliation. There is not a shred of evidence that imposing Christianity on people ever resulted in the betterment of humanity. In any event, this is all about putting power in the hands of the preachers with the only real objective of controlling people on this earthly plane for the benefit of the oligarchs.
It's less that people want to be ruled by preachers than that preachers want to rule the people. Now that the nones are becoming more prevalent and religion is losing its power and influence, the preachers are making a mad grab for whatever power they can lay their hands on, and this is at least in part where Christian Nationalism is really showing itself. What really needs to happen now is for people like us to shake those who are more apathetic out of their apathy, get them to see the threat represented here, and take positive, curative ACTION.
Because yeah ... our country and our government ARE hanging in the balance.
Perhaps we're seeing their 'final battle' play out in real time; christianity's final attempt to grab power is expected. Like cornered rats, (which can be quite vicious) they're trying hard to hold the positions of power they've enjoyed for a couple thousand years. If nothing else, this futile attempt may produce a few last gasps of $$$ support from the believers that still cling to this sad, delusional, hateful, murderous belief system.
+++ I've felt for some time the churches have been in the process of being distilled down to the true believers beyond the reach of reason. They are definitely fighting a rear guard action and trying to accomplish through the courts and government what they've failed to do from their pulpits. It speaks to the depths of their delusions that they seem to think their religion can be imposed on this country with a happy ending.
Every election is their "final battle", specifically this and all future Presidential elections. If Trump loses, the next 2028 GOP platform will be the same.
It's never ending and each of their zealot generations thinks "they" are the ones. These christo-fascists are so emotionally draining on this country.
I'm losing sleep over this. I guess we'll have our come to jesus moment in a few months .....LOL.
I was downtown last Sunday and the parking lots at the Southern Baptist, Methodist, and Presbyterian churches were half to 3/4 filled. The Church of the Nazarene wasn't holding services and all up and down US 27 there are churches with none to a few cars in the parking lots and many are shuttered.
I was surprised the other day, going up what I used to call "church row" on a street here. Three big churches (not mega, just large buildings) were neighbors. The church where my folks used to volunteer to hand out holiday food and toys is GONE, and there are apartments being built on the old site! As I mentioned before, my mother's Presby church in Linda Vista closed down because the old folks' numbers were dwindling without any new, younger worshipers to support it.
If they think throwing money at this problem will solve it, I suspect they are sadly mistaken.
Many of the mega-churches are still filled, but their growth has plateaued from what I've read. In any event, people attend them for the stage show they put on, not so much the ideas they peddle. It varies by location, but there are a lot of church buildings for sale in this country. This isn't going to change because politicians try to force people to attend.
They are still a place to propagandize the faithful. I only hope they mostly go away soon. With all these rapist pastors that should happen more quickly.
A lot of people who accept the Christian Nationalist platform -- or the hate speech from "pastors" -- don't go to church. They may not even tune in to the streaming versions. They've been brainwashed into thinking Christianity=good, =familiar, =moral, so they blindly identify with whatever has the " +" symbol associated with it. It's another form of intellectual laziness and lack of critical thinking. Feed 'em the right buzzwords, and vague bumper-sticker slogans, and they're all in.
On a slightly different note-I read a story yesterday that a man was being baptized in a river somewhere in Asia-and an alligator attacked them and killed the man. That jebus-he sure does protect his own doesn't he?
Well, probably a crocodile. Only the US and China have alligators. To Mr. Croc I sez, "Bon apetit!"
I'm waiting for the brain-eating amoebae to spread in the south, in the warm, standing water the Baptists are fond of using to dunk their followers in the name of Jebus.
Even when I was a believer, immersion baptism always struck me as a little silly. I know I felt like a damned fool when I got dunked in the pool/tank/baptistry/whatever with the whole congregation watching.

I keep saying this - the USA is no longer one nation. It is 2 or more competing groups with conflicting world views sharing the same real estate, and the right wants to erase everyone else. If we win in the Fall, they will scream bloody murder and start open terrorism against others. I also believe under those circumstances, they will try to secede and we damned well better have a plan for an orderly and fair divorce. If we lose, we'll be in concentration camps.
They do seem to think a national divorce would end with just California and New England breaking off and seceding the rest of the country to Christo-fascist rule. In reality the more likely scenario is that we break into 50 separate nations, diluting our world presence to a point where we really would be a collection of banana republics. We would be excluded from NATO, the G7, lose our favored status with the UN and probably wind up invaded by Mexico. Exactly the scenario the right is scaring their base with.
I trust the old aphorism - there is safety in numbers. I think in a national referendum with the proposed constitutions of the 2 sides up for exposure, only 25-30% would vote to secede and we would be well rid of them.
This time we should let them secede and try to survive storm, tornado, flood and drought damage without the help of the Feds. Odd, isn't it; how the red states will put their hands out for aid after reviling every other state in the Union...
This right here shows exactly why they are so intent on purging voter rolls. If they can make it so only their people are allowed to vote, then they can win these ballot initiatives. If everyone gets to vote, they lose.

I got the impression that he would not be unhappy if I gave him a taste of my bottle. Which I might do. Never bad to have a friend in high places.
I pulled up Found North's website just now, only to discover that they are SOLD OUT! I should mention, too, that $160 for a fifth is well out of my weight class, especially considering how prices for single-malt scotch have escalated over the last few years. "Attention QANON, MAGAT FASCISTS: Every time you sing "We're Not Gonna Take It" remember it was written by a cross-dressing, libtard, tree-hugging half-Jew who HATES everything you stand for. It was you and people like you that inspired every angry word of that song! SO FUCK OFF!"

Most Baptist churches have indoor baptismal pools, unless they are very small and very poor.
I found this from 2018:
A crocodile has killed a Protestant pastor who was baptising followers near a lake in southern Ethiopia.
The man obviously didn't pray hard enough or the right way.
different, but funny that the pastor abandons the 'baptee'

It'd be nice if they were "Christ-like," based on the very likely fact that that Judean carpenter-turned-rabbi never existed.
And if wishes were horses, beggars would ride.

Here is the sentiment of people of reason/wisdom from the most reasonable and wise Twisted Sister - We're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
We're not gonna take it anymore
We've got the right to choose, and
There ain't no way we'll lose it
This is our life, this is our song
We'll fight the powers that be, just
Don't pick on our destiny, 'cause
You don't know us, you don't belong
We're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
We're not gonna take it anymore
Oh, you're so condescending
Your call is never ending
We don't want nothin', not a thing from you
Your life is trite and jaded
Boring and confiscated
If that's your best, your best won't do
‘Were Not Gonna Take It’
Here's what Dee Snider tweeted to Trump's minions after they co-opted his song:
"Attention QANON, MAGAT FASCISTS: Every time you sing "We're Not Gonna Take It" remember it was written by a cross-dressing, libtard, tree-hugging half-Jew who HATES everything you stand for. It was you and people like you that inspired every angry word of that song! SO FUCK OFF!"

I love Dee!! He's no mute snowflake.
"I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!"

Ziklag - Sounds German.
Like some kind of poisonous gas or something...
You mean like Zyklon-B? ☠
Given when and where it comes from, it likely is a bad transliteration of biblical Hebrew.
