Xtians: "WE'RE PRAYING!! WE'RE BETTER THAN YOU BECAUSE WE'RE SAVED!! THE REST OF YOU WILL TORTURED FOREVER BY OUR LOVING GOD!! JUST SIT THERE AND LISTEN TO US!! YAY US!!"

Sane people: "Fuck all the way off"

NOTHING. FAILS. LIKE. PRAYER. Don’t worry: We’ll THINK for you.

“Christians would be relegated “to bottom-of-the-barrel status in our society — below socialists and Nazis and Klan members”

So, Nazis and Klan members are the bottom of the barrel? Aren’t they both groups based in Christianity? Why yes, yes they are. The panhandlers he mentions also often utilize Christianity to engender pity to get donations, I have yet to give to a panhandler that doesn’t bless me for my generosity, and I frequently give to them.

The bottom of the barrel (according to Kavanaugh) are already Christians. So no loss there buddy boy.

Translation: anything derogatory, rude,or threatening couched in Christian terms is allowed. Anything religious and not Christian, no matter how demonstrably benign, is automatically derogatory, rude, and threatening, since it opposes Christianity by existing.

Funny how Christians don't seem to realize that average Americans aren't clamoring for more injection of Christian beliefs in society. Nobody is sitting at home thinking, "I wish there was less Church/State separation." Except other Christians.

Holytape's avatar

You see the average American is clamoring for more. Because if you are not clamoring, then you not really American.

Matthew 6:5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

Jesus wasn't really ambiguous here. Assuming these were the words of Jesus accurately remembered, of course. And, as mythicists will remind me, that Jesus existed at all. :)

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Matthew 6:5-6 must be among the most ignored verses in the bible, as it comes to evangelicals and Christian Nationalists who are determined to advertise their beliefs to anyone, whether they're interested or not. I wonder what kind of counter it would take to get them to recognize what they're doing, though I'm sure they are determined to take a cafeteria approach to the bible, and pick and choose verses as they please.

NOGODZ20's avatar

Match what xtians do. If they stand on street corners with portable PA systems, bullhorns and signs, stand across from them with the same (only our signs will point out the illogic of god belief, not to mention reject religion’s embrace of hatred.

NOGODZ20's avatar

Yep. Pointed out Matthew 6:5-6 an hour ago. Christians can’t even be bothered to read the gospels, let alone the entire bible. Lazy bastards.

John Smith's avatar

Christians are read certain bible passages by clergy, and after the clergy has explained how the congregation should “interpret” those passages! If the members of the church did read the book on their own, the congregation might come to a different conclusion than the one that the clergy wants and would go against “THEIR AGENDA”.

it will be so nice when little Ronnie DeSantis is no longer the governor of Florida. He has done nothing but destroy this state- trying to make it the poster child for Nazi christian white nationalism. It is gerrymandered to the max, he is destroying public education system attempting to put all this nonsensical religious hooey everywhere. He tried to destroy Disney because they support DEI and LGBTQ. The Canadians and other vacationers stopped coming , which is killing the hospitality businesses. It is low in education, high in poverty, his record to make Florida better sucks. He and his creepy stepford wife need to go the fuck away and take their little Damiens with them. And he tried real hard to be a big man by opening Alligator Alcatraz. The Nazi camp for brown people. Which was a fucking waste of tax payer dollars. And Floridians better start voting these Nazi republicans out - otherwise it will soon be a Nazi state.

Cathy G's avatar

Sounds like he’s highly qualified to run for president in 2028 on the Republican ticket.

He tried in 2016, but got shellacked in white supremist Iowa. His robotic performance turned people off. If you can't crack Iowa, you aren't going anywhere in nationwide politics. That is why he is madly sucking up to Caligulump. He is termed out in '26 and has pissed off all the Florida republican with extorting massive amounts of bribes from them. He can't return to state politics.

Hannah's avatar

I can't imagine living with him as guv. I would probably get arrested around that Alligator Alcatraz concentration camp.

GMT's avatar

Yeah everyday it’s something more vile with little Ronnie and the Florida Nazi rethuglicans.

NOGODZ20's avatar

Hey, believers...

Your latest "Rapture" came and went. Were your fellow christers who predicted it in error? Makes them rather fallible. Besides, didn't your own Jesus say that NO ONE, not even HE, knew when it was going to happen? Only "the Father" knew (kinda strange that Jesus wouldn't know, as he's supposed to be "one with the Father").

But wait: Could it be that the Rapture DID happen and you were all "Left Behind?" Let that niggling thought haunt you.

Straw's avatar

The rapture happened and most xians left planet earth/Tellus for dwarf planet Pluto. Halleluja, at least some peace on earth. Maybe. Or not.

Is that why I'm still standing here in my marvelous rapture hat and boots, but my ride is really late.

I hope you are happy. Because Cambridge Christian wasn't allowed to pray. They lost favor with God. Because they lost favor with God, the godless horde from the iUniversity Christian School with their fake Jesus was allowed to run rampant over Cambridge's grid iron warriors . They pillaged the cafeteria, and salted Cambridge's football field. They carried off the cheerleaders to be their war brides! For seven generations they will be cursed,... But considering this is Florida, that's about 35 years

Good morning.

Hemant wrote: “ Somehow, the Court blinked. Whether out of caution, calculation, or simple lack of votes, the justices didn’t feel a need to take this one up. Thank goodness..”

As Mae West observed in another matter, “Goodness had nothing to do with it.” It's a witty, self-referential line used to describe situations where factors other than moral virtue, such as being clever, lucky, or strategic, were responsible for a particular outcome.

And as Hemant also noted, this is yet just another battle in the Eternal fornicating of church and state that a certain type of so-called Christian really wants to see result in a bastard child, Religious Dominionism. The Nat-C’s are never going to give up, because that would be an admission that the power of their prayers and their God is limited. And frankly, from a social psychological standpoint, that’s an admission that they cannot make.

It’s kind of like the practice of sin leveling. Everyone sins, they say. The intention of sin leveling is to bring their great sins down to the level of everyone else’s minor sins, although they claim just the opposite when they claim that before God all sins are equal. They are not God, as much as they want to be. But the point is, they want to point out everybody else’s sins so they don’t feel quite so bad about their own. This is just a way to make their God greater than other peoples gods or other people’s lack of gods.

That way, they don’t feel quite so bad that their God seems to be useless. I mean, what kind of God can’t even help you win a football game?

There is a distillery — Found North — that makes blended whiskey. Every release is unique. (They go around to other distilleries and buy up their leftover barrels from 15-20 years ago. The other distilleries don’t have enough to do a run. Found North will do a run when they have enough.) And then they get to label it as 15 year or 18 year, etc whiskey even tho FN has been around for just a few years. It’s hard to get as the runs are small. I’ve managed to get a bottle from runs 7 and 9. Fantastic stuff. I always look for it and today I spotted a bottle in the locked cabinet. $190. Limit of 1. Made from 4 kinds of whiskey, mostly 15 year and small amounts of 20 and of 22. They are labeling as 15.

I let my 3 best friends know. We are going to have an Epstein party. I’ll bring the 15 year old and everyone gets a shot.

Too soon?

Maltnothops's avatar

And let me advise you about the 4 kinds of bourbon you should on hand at all times. First is the bourbon for mixed drinks. Don’t spend much on this as you are intent on diluting it anyway. Second is the bourbon for sipping on your average evening. Again, no need to spend a lot. Third is the sipping bourbon for special occasions. Especially good or especially bad doesn’t matter. You are with friends and/or family and you want that bourbon to be a memorable part of the experience. Don’t cheap out. Finally, the fourth bourbon you should have on hand is the kind you would NEVER share with your friends. They don’t deserve it!

Zizzer-Zazzer-Zuzz's avatar

Which one is the chugging bourbon?

Zorginipsoundsor's avatar

The store that brand comes in a plastic bottle.

Maltnothops's avatar

“Benchmark”. It’s made at the Buffalo Trace distillery and costs about $12 for a fifth.

No great surprise that there have been Latin-American CITIZENS who have been assaulted and detained by ICE. I sincerely hope someone is organizing what is likely to be one HUGE class-action lawsuit against those masked fools in the near future!

That and Nuremberg-style trials.

Guerillasurgeon's avatar

There's an old Soviet concept called the "vertical stroke". Those who had anything to do with it from the bottom to the top, and everyone in between. They all get the chop. Worth looking into I think.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Oh, HELL, yeah! I just DARE one of those SOBs to attempt to make the excuse that: "I was only following orders."

Trust me, bud, we've heard THAT one before, and it didn't sell back then, either.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Let us hope that, in this case and likely others, payback is a genuine BITCH.

John Smith's avatar

Yet, how many Latin-Americans voted for Trump. It is hard to sympathize with someone who was told that Trump would deport them and they still voted for Trump!

Troublesh00ter's avatar

It's STILL abuse of authority, regardless of who voted for whom, and ICE and Kristi Noem and Trump still need to answer for it!

John Smith's avatar

I agree with it is wrong and an abuse of power! Yet, if Trump was in any real danger of being prosecuted after his presidential term or the election of a Democrat president; I willingly to bet my pocket lint that Trumpyboy would flee to Russia.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

And I have serious doubts that he could escape the US with anything resembling ease. I also wonder how his Secret Service detail would react to his attempting to abdicate.

They might just take that amiss.

My sympathy is for their children who pay the price of their parents bigotry.

John Smith's avatar

Yes, you are right! The children will suffer, too bad the children can’t divorce their idiotic parents!

Whitney's avatar

I distinctly recall watching the news one night just over a year ago, and listening as a Latin-American insisted that Trump wouldn't be deporting people just like him. Over and over, he insisted Trump wasn't that kind of bigot and he would be voting for Trump because he liked other policies.

That guy was warned. He chose not to believe that a confirmed bigot and racist would set deportation quotas that would apply to people just like him; he chose to believe that Trump would be on his side and in agreement with him. To spell out something I've said before: This is, in fact, what Trump voters asked for and claimed they wanted when they voted for him. They are now getting what they've asked for.

My sympathy is limited; I save it for those of us who voted for anyone else. If this is what the Christian god promises, I'll take my chances with his counterpart, thanks.

Praying in public like that isn't religious devotion; it's marketing.

Furthermore, it's explicitly forbidden by their own holey scriptures.
