Googling the Trump bible, it looks like he's selling them for $60. So this is waste on top of waste, with Walters agreeing to a 116% markup for whatever middleman campaign donating bible seller gave him the idea.
The good people of OK can't get rid of this guy fast enough.
The bible is already free. Anyone can download it to their computer or phone from Project Gutenberg (and probably umpteen other sites) for free. The US Constitution is also free for download from umpteen sites.
Which shows how Walters' dominionism is even more corrupt. He could probably just have it downloaded to school computers and then every teacher AND administrator would have it. But that doesn't put money in Trump's pocket or the pockets of his middlemen cronies - which is probably what this is all about - and it doesn't force teachers and kids to *see* that there's a bible in the classroom.
Absolutely. How are they able to be that blind? I know they believe in a collection of fantasy stories and (un)moral stories and horror stories, but still.
I have both the original and the unedited version (which really does need some editing!). It's worth picking up every so often because it is SO RICH, loaded with ideas and conversational set pieces.
Walters is anti-LGBTQ. Anyone care to tell him who King James was and what James liked?
As far as I'm concerned, Walters is directly responsible for the death of Nex Benedict. Fuck Walters, his imaginary sky spook and his hate-filled religion.
Sooo ... it would be "fine" with Walters if they bought Bibles which also included the US Constitution? Is he basically demanding that we shell out $6M for a bunch of Trump Bibles, then?
UPDATE: And now, we have seen that he is requesting bidders to supply Bibles where the ONLY one meeting his entire list of criteria is ... drumroll, please ... THE TRUMP BIBLE. Seriously, I need to start charging for being psychic. Though Stevie Wonder coulda seen this grift coming.
Reminder that his reaction to Nex Benedict’s death was practically gleeful. He holds some responsibility for the attack on them in the first place, along with Chaya Raychek (sp? who cares, she’s a monster) who explicitly promotes physical violence against all LGBTQ people. Walters gave her a position in the school district and weeks later Nex was attacked.
This man does not have the students’ best interests, educational interests, or even safety in mind. He’s only interested in pushing his agenda and getting power over others.
He's after their SOULS, which are far more important than the actual people. Thus violence against their fleshly and imperfect bodies is justified if it saves their precious and immortal souls.
I don't know how much sense that makes outside the bubble, but that precept surfaced frequently in various churches whenever this subject came up. Maybe not quite as explicitly then as now, but it doesn't seem much changed.
Hey Walters! I can save you some money there. Give me 50 bucks and I will call every school in Oklahoma and ask if they have a bible. For an extra 50, I will write a link you can put on the state's education website to point all the teachers and students to biblegateway.com so they can read it anywhere, anytime in whatever translation they want! Then the other $5,999,900 can go to actual education!
What steps are you going to take to prevent the right from censoring history? Oh yeah, that's right. Nothing. Because you don't like the real history. Actual history makes you look bad, so you want to whitewash it. You know that the left isn't interested in censoring American history. The left just wants to make sure that all of it is taught, the good and the bad. You want a fantasy version of history taught. A version that is divorced from reality. A version that props up your ideology and ensures the next generation is ignorant of the fact that your version of Christianity is not what the country was founded on. You want people to believe your lies so they will accept your rule without question. Go away, Walters. America does not need your brand of authoritarianism.
-- Admiral James T. Kirk, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Though consistency in THIS case isn't what I would call a virtue. Walters comes across more and more like a One-Note Charlie, running variations on the same warped theme in a vain attempt to ram his religion into a school system that doesn't need it, yet seems to be intent on inserting it anyway.
It's pretty clear that Walters isn't going to quit ... which means that, one way or another, he will need to be removed.
Ryan Walters should be in an evangelical mega-church separating the gullible from their money as men of God are prone to do. Not that he would be doing the world any good by doing so, but it would keep him from doing the harm he's doing now. Oklahoma has some of the worst performing schools in the country, and he is not going to resolve that problem with his magic book. Religious nut-jobs have absolutely no role to play in public education. Walters is going to wind up costing his state a boatload of money defending the law suits that are sure to come.
Yup. That was my first thought when I saw the article a while back that he wanted to put bibles in each classroom. " Which version?" I was sure he wasn't talking about Douay-Rheims (the catholic translation, the first version I read), or a Modern Hebrew translation (which I read in college), or the NRSV or Skeptic's Annotated (both of which are on one of my bookshelves.) So, yeah, it had to be the Trump version. Shocked!
Amazing how predictable some people are--and how easy it is to see through them. Was it Mark Twain who quipped that everyone needs to have a good, built-in bullshit detector? (I actually think the quote referred to "every writer", but it's really necessary for everyone, at least in my humble opinion...)
OT Trump is visiting my village next week to talk about the economy. Why Waunakee? IDK he’s plan on Waunakee in the morning and Milwaukee at n the afternoon. Which is strange because the convention was in Milwaukee and then there was a Christian activist (the guy who dressed up as the grinch outside an elementary school shouting about Santa not being real) who was attending the convention who went to Waunakee (with a group of guys) for lunch and was kicked out of Subway for his t-shirts that were graphically calling for biblical punishment for LGBTQ people and abortions.
It made waves across the country on social media. He decided to make a shirt for sale attacking the young girl who refused him service. Waunakee supported the store and the girl, but he tried to sue Subway, but I haven’t heard anything else about that recently.
Anyhoo, I’m getting nervous about my little town. It started with the litter boxes scandal, and now we have Turning Point USA after school club and the homecoming speaker (I’m still investigating who that was but my daughter was pretty angry about his speech) degrading women on Thursday and now Trump is visiting. There’s no real reason Trump should come here, we are a pretty small bedroom community with very little influence. And we’re more than an hour away from Milwaukee, not really a sensible choice.
The current play I’m in is about a pie contest, actually about the two ladies competing every year in the pie contest. I’m baking pies for the performances.
It’s a theatrical table read and not a whole production.
I would say PR, there was so many stories about the venues he went to being half empty, he probably hope he will fill a smaller one and spread the pictures.
A half empty high school gym is more impressive than a half empty stadium? He is going there because his campaign is being told to pay for increased security cost BEFORE they come to town. Everyone has caught n to trump's habit of stiffing cities for huge security costs.
Apparently he’s claiming the reason he’s doing the smaller venues is because Kamala isn’t letting the secret service protect him at the larger venues. Because that’s the vp’s job, to run the secret service.
It can’t be because he can’t fill a regular venue, nor can he not get one for lack of compensation.
Not likely. Dane Manufacturing is not far from the elementary school we just tore down, it was rebuilt closer to my house. Private business at least. But the police force in town is not that big to cover something like this and I know he won’t pay any overtime or anything for it.
Honestly, tiny affluent white suburb isn’t going to garner any new voters, not enough to shift the state, even for the small margin he lost by in 2020 in the state.
He claims religious freedom. So he filmed her refusing him service and he asked if it was because of the shirts. To which she said yes. But the shirts weren’t visible in the video, so he claimed since they were religious based it was because he was Christian. There were photos taken outside after they left of the shirts. What also wasn’t reported was his behavior before the video started, which was less than civil. Which was confirmed by the other customers in the restaurant at the time.
He's free to wear offensive tee shirts, and she has the freedom to not serve him. You probably haven't heard anything more about because nobody took his case.
Welp, I guess nothing says 'honest politician' the same way denying the press access to a public meeting does.
Mr. Walters might be one of the more egregious examples, but let's be real here: he's not doing anything the Republican party might object to. Sure, he's a problem, he should be voted out of office, and never allowed to serve the community again. The bottom line remains that right now, this is who the Republican party is, this is what they stand for, and while it's been more obvious lately none of this is new. I may not like the Democrats very much, but at least they don't seem to be actively working toward the destruction of the nation in myriad ways.
Good luck to all of us come November. I have a feeling we're going to need it.
This type of mind boggling corruption is occurring regularly in red states. The US Constitution’s laws to live by are seemingly optional for MAGATS in power.
"How come none of the Board members bothered to do the basic math here?!"
They can't. They have an Oklahoma public school education. /s
The few that can do the math are just calculating their cut.
Googling the Trump bible, it looks like he's selling them for $60. So this is waste on top of waste, with Walters agreeing to a 116% markup for whatever middleman campaign donating bible seller gave him the idea.
The good people of OK can't get rid of this guy fast enough.
As somebody pointed out, if Trump was a real christian and a real billionaire, he'd be giving away free bibles.
Precisely. $6M for something that's free on the internet is the definition of a grift.
Absolutely. How are they able to be that blind? I know they believe in a collection of fantasy stories and (un)moral stories and horror stories, but still.
If Trump lived the words of Jesus, he’d sell all he has, give the money to the poor and follow his savior.
For my money, the fact that Trump didn't burst into flames the first time he stepped foot in a church is proof there is no god.
The same god who killed a man for righting the Ark to keep it from touching the ground leaves Trump unscathed after everything he's done.
Logic. What is it? 😂
Instead he's broken 9 of The Commandments. Likely all 10 if we include his mishandling of numerous policies, including covid.
All 7 Deadly Sins. Repeatedly.

Same! Walters is angling for a position in a new Trump admin. What better way than to fill Trump’s pockets with gold
Walters is anti-LGBTQ. Anyone care to tell him who King James was and what James liked?
As far as I'm concerned, Walters is directly responsible for the death of Nex Benedict. Fuck Walters, his imaginary sky spook and his hate-filled religion.
Yeah, that's the irony.
$6M for new bibles? The Gideons give them away for free. What are the chances that most of this 6 mil ends up in Walters' offshore accounts?
100 percent chance.
Sooo ... it would be "fine" with Walters if they bought Bibles which also included the US Constitution? Is he basically demanding that we shell out $6M for a bunch of Trump Bibles, then?
He wants them to have bibles that include the constitution. That guarantees that nobody will actually read it.

Not to nickpick but Michelango would have had a hard time reading the KJV while dead.
Also, Walters would not be interested in Michelangelo, or as noted my NOGODZ King James, since he’s so bigoted toward LGBTQ people.
