No discovery of science has ever pointed to the truth of any religious doctrine. This is especially true when it comes to the Biblical account of creation. I would challenge her to prove conclusively that any of the people mentioned in Genesis actually existed, or that any of those events actually happened. At some point, religious faith begins to cross the line to mental illness.

The only proof creationists have for the Biblical Creation and the Flood is made up stories, folkloric myths, imaginary monsters, lost civilizations that never in fact existed, forgeries up the wahzoo, and their own warped, toxic interpretation of the Bible which they claimed to be 100% accurate and true while disregarding anything that clearly proves them wrong.

Here's what I said on Joe. My. God. website the other day -- Dumb Idiot Ham always have illustrations made of a group of children and a T.Rex dinosaur pointing at the Bible for "scientific" answers (that's not really there) in a intimidating way. And yet would balk at all those atheists who would do the same thing by pointing to passages which speaks of 2 daughters who gets their dad drunk to make woopie on, 42 boys getting torn to pieces by two she-bears, pregnant women bellies being ripped open, and other graphic depictions of scenes worthy of X-rated films and say, "It's in there." And they're really is all in there unlike Dumb Idiot Ham's distorted, demented Bible claims.

No, but like the subject of the song,

She reaches in, and grabs right hold of your heart

She seems to have an invisible touch, yeah

It takes control and slowly tears you apart

Minmei certainly did that to Rick Hunter. And to a lesser extent her cousin, Kyle.

The Adam and Eve story is less about two literal people and more about being a type or prelude to the story of Israel.

Adam is chosen by God and placed into a type of promised land and given a type of Torah. If he obeys it, there is life. If he fails to obey it, there is exile and death.

The problem is, fundamentalist Christians see them as literal people, and view the creation story as true.

I completely agree. We accept people that base their values and actions on a set of ancient fables. Some of it is so ridiculous that anyone with an ounce of sanity can unequivocally say that it’s a bunch of nonsense. Anyone else who held such fantastical beliefs would be locked up in a mental institution. We cannot allow legislation of any kind to be derived from the Bible or any other religious book.

The Bible is the world’s longest-running, most widely respected, and least reliable Rorschach Test. You can look in it and see anything you want to see, find anything you want to find, justify any pre-ordained conclusion you prefer, or validate any prejudice — because the Bible has it all: love, hate; revenge, redemption; war, peace; slavery, freedom; humility, arrogance; kindness, cruelty; and, as Mark Twain observed, “upwards of a thousand lies”!

Two things you cannot get the magic book to say is that human slavery and rape are wrong. In my view, if you can't get something that basic right, there is no point in sifting through the fly droppings in search of the pepper.

Dear Stephanie,

If we are going to start to quote the bible to make policy decisions, I only have a suggestion for you. Be quiet and go home. Seriously, 1 Timothy 2:12 " I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet." So any time you flap that trap of yours, you are going against the will of God. And you dress like a strumpet. God gave specific instructions on how to dress. 1 Corinthians 11:16 "For if a woman does not cover her head, she might as well have her hair cut off; but if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut off or her head shaved, then she should cover her head." and 1 Peter 3:1-6 "Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, when they see your respectful and pure conduct. Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious. For this is how the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn themselves, by submitting to their own husbands." I really have to questions your husband's morality and faith, if he is allowing is wife out of the house, especially dressed like a harlot.

Sincerely, Your Brother in Christ,

Holytape

1. Nobody is claiming climate change will cause seasons, day or night to cease.

2. Deserts exist. So obviously Genesis doesn't promise temperate growing conditions everywhere. Genesis certainly doesn't say 'Pennsylvania will always be temperate', so God could certainly let our actions cause PA to become a desert while Iceland gets the ideal growing conditions.

What? What is going on here? I don’t see it, please spell it out for me. Is it that Democrats are trying to keep the air in New York City clean for people to breathe? The horror! I mean, then people of color will have clean air. How dare we?

“Of course, we are to be good stewards of God’s creation, but not through a forceful climate control global agenda.”

So, are you gonna take care of the Earth on your own then? Or intentionally shit all over everything out of spite? Cause I see you shitting on everything with big goobers of spite mixed in right now. If we can’t expect the folks who are polluting the Earth to willingly stop polluting and protect the environment, then our only recourse is to force them to. If we do not, we all die. You will die too, even the fucking billionaires you’re trying to woo will die. And all the money you get out of kissing corporate ass will be completely useless.

And let’s not ignore the irony of you complaining about forceful climate control by using orders from god as an excuse not to be good stewards of his creation. The whole concept of god, yours in particular, is forceful control of everyone and here you are whining that the legislature or government is trying to protect the well being of the citizenry by being forceful.

God impregnates human woman. Baby of that union has powers and abilities that no mere human has. Performs impossible feats. Iron-clad, hard-working, superstitious ignorance is impervious to reason, oblivious to empirical, physical facts, and is entirely based on appeals to emotion. Trying to get this person and her supporters to accept the reality of climate change is a futile waste of time. The only solution is to out-vote her supporters.

A political party that consistently ignores reality in favor of ideology will eventually fail to deliver the basic needs of the people so badly that their distractions, their reassurances, their blaming of scapegoats, their excuses, their flat-out lies, and their threats against critics will no longer work. Appeals to emotion no longer work when the stomach is empty, the skin is cold, and the kids are deathly ill. People want real, immediate solutions to such problems, not demagogues' flapping mouths.

The problem is that the word "eventually" can mean a very long time, and a great deal of harm can be done during that time.

Sigh...even when I was in grade school, I couldn't stand the Apostle Paul, and I couldn't stand having his "teachings" shoved in my face, even though I didn't dare say so. I was hardly a Bible scholar, but I was aware of the verse about God being no respecter of persons, male or female, slave or free, etc. Since Paul's opinions stood in stark contrast to this, I figured he was just another male chauvinist pig like so many of the men in our church whom I found unpleasant to be around. And there was no shortage of women blithely ignoring that aspect of Paul, but it was frustrating to me that none of them ever said "oh come on, that's hogwash and we all know it."

I saw the headline of this article and my immediate reaction was: "How fucking stupid is this? Answer: PRETTY FUCKING STUPID!"

In a reality where we have advanced to the point where we can honestly claim to have at least the beginnings of an idea of how the universe works, we still have people who will treat ONE BOOK as though it was the first, last, and total authority on EVERYTHING. Let's not mention that the bible knows nothing about physical chemistry or solid-state physics or even basic mathematics. Keep in mind, this book thinks that Pi is equal to THREE. Yet Borowicz wants to scrap not a law but a resolution regarding climate change because Noah got a rainbow when the ark landed on Ararat!

This is nothing other than determined, purposeful IGNORANCE, and the only thing more troubling than the mindless statement made by Borowicz is that there are more people in her district who voted for her, possibly knowing that this was her position. And with 67% of her district voting for her, it's sadly likely she will continue to be a state rep for a while.

A lot of people are disillusioned by the corrupt legislators and boldly enabled corporate donors who loudly and proudly oppose all efforts to save the planet, for no other reasons than money and power. Religion is a tacky way to dress up that immoral greed. And pushing for an alleged Rapture is a convenient excuse for not doing the work in the here and now. Between societal burnout, jaded selfishness, and laziness, I’ve seen plenty of otherwise extremely empathetic, motivated people give up on fighting climate change. Messaging is a factor, and the opposition knows it.

What is truly exasperating is that they put forth the fundagelical worldview as something which has to take precedence over everything else in society. When someone points out the falsity of one of their assertions they just answer: "this is what we believe". They have been thought trained to answer all attempts to correct their errors of fact with 'our faith is just as valid as your science.' And since it is a death cult, they look forward to and are trying to invoke their endtimes. The problem is everyone else pays the price for their cupidity and learned stupidity.
