Pastor Who Wrongly Prophesied Trump Re-Election Ends Ministry

He didn't see this coming.

• Christian evangelist Mario Murillo insisted there’s no such thing as Christian Nationalism in the same breath of air he praised Trump voters for being simultaneously Christians and nationalists.

• Pastor Jeremiah Johnson is ending his ministry following his failed prophecy that Donald Trump would win re-election. He’s had other failed prophecies but never one this big with a clear expiration date.

  I want to go on record: “I was wrong, I am deeply sorry, and I ask for your forgiveness.” I specifically want to apologize to any believer in whom I have now caused potential doubt concerning the voice of God and His ability to speak to His people. As a human being, I missed what God was saying; however, rest assured, God Himself is NOT a liar and His written Word should always be the foundation and source of our lives as Christians.

• Tennessee is trying to pass legislation that would treat unmasked people as a protected class, banning businesses from kicking them out. If that doesn’t sound stupid enough on its own, here’s evangelical financial “guru” Dave Ramsey endorsing the bill while complaining about the cost of keeping employees and customers safe from the virus.

• The Supreme Court ruled in favor of a Christian evangelist who sought to preach in a designated free speech zone on the campus Georgia’s Gwinnett College, setting a legal precedence that made circumstantial allies of the right-wing group Alliance Defending Freedom and liberal-leaning secular groups Americans United for Separation of Church and State, the American Humanist Association, and the ACLU.

• Persecution kink is in its heyday.

  During a service yesterday, Destiny Church played news clips of COVID-denying churches and pastors, and framed them as persecuted victims, before pastor Greg Fairrington announced his church's upcoming #NeverAgain service and said, "Never again will the church shut its doors."

  

• Evangelicals and New Age spiritualists make strange bedfellows at the voting booth. Some New Age “influencers” view Donald Trump as a “lightworker” who “is here to help assist humans in what many in the New Age and spiritual communities refer to as a great ‘awakening’ of consciousness.” This leads us to wonder if Trump’s supporters are less about a certain social/political leaning than just being hopeless at sussing out bullshit.
