These are the kind of “leaders” that the GOP is going to continue to produce based off of the type of conservative voices that are popular. This moron probably listened to the likes of Shapiro, Kirk, Tate, etc. and assumed that that is just how the world works. He’s an immature man child who has no concept of what government employees should actually be doing so he feeds off of reactionary garbage like this. He wants the attention so that when he does inevitably get reprimanded for these things he can cry about being silenced.

Phenomenal. One little hotshot House Representative who thinks that his position entitles him to proselytize without any consideration of the sensibilities or beliefs or LACK of beliefs of his constituents. One might think that Prichard is queuing himself up to be something like Trump, just MORE religiously obnoxious.

The real telling point now will be the response of those he is supposed to represent. What I'm afraid of is that they will mostly agree with him (they DID elect him, after all). However, any voices of protest will be of interest to me, particularly in how Prichard responds (IF he responds). It may be that Annie Laurie Gaylor may have to lean on him again, though my impression is that he doesn't want to get the message.

I've said it multiple times here and elsewhere: because others may believe differently or not at all, a representative of the government has only ONE obligation and 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗜𝗦 𝗧𝗢 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗟𝗔𝗪, 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗜𝗢𝗗. This is a lesson that Prichard needs to learn, and the sooner the better.

ND is where the Uber cons religious folks are migrating to right now. One of my husband’s boyhood friends (they joined the military together) has moved his (my impression is quiverfull but may be any flavor of evangelical, anti birth control, homeschool religion) family of nine there when he retired from the army. This guy is exactly what they would vote for. The last time I saw them they were angry at all Covid precautions and were dog whistling the entire conversation, white supremacy and anti-LGBTQ. Anyone else I know that has moved there in the last ten years have been the same mindset.

That’s not to say those are the only people there, just I’ve noticed it is a place these folks are moving to.

Yes, not everyone. My BFF's late husband was born in and still had family in ND. He was always far, far left. They lived in California for many years, but his job took them to Virginia, then back to California, then to North Carolina/South Carolina, where she stayed after he passed, too many years there for a woman in her 70s to move yet again. She volunteers with the League of Women Voters, and during election years drives minority/disabled/etc. people to the polls.

“One little hotshot House Representative“

I misread this and thought hothouse representative, like the phrase “a hothouse flower” meaning a naive and inexperienced person prone to wilting at any challenge. Which describes him pretty well.

Sodomy? Another Christer who gets the Tanakh wrong. Here's what it says about Sodom:

"Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy." -- Ezekiel 16:49

Not a word about 'sodomites,' Prick-ard. And that sin is an apt description of conservatives.

I sort of feel like someone needs to explain to Rep. Prichard that this isn't Burger King, and he can't have it 'his way, right away' just because he's a Christian.

Looking through some of the Wikipedia references, I'm not surprised he's got a conservative till it hurts then keep going stance. He's also from what I can tell a dyed in the wool Catholic; he certainly went to a Catholic private school. It's a bit hard to be sure, but to me, this guy looks like he's always had things pretty good, and has no idea what others have to go through. I'd guess he sees himself as a 'self-made man', but it sure looks to me like there's a lot of privilege going on.

This guy isn't ready to be a representative. He's not finished growing up yet.

Whether he likes it or not, the Bible is not a history book. We have plenty of information about that time, the beginning of genesis through the four gospels and beyond to refute pretty much all of it as not historical. It’s barely passable as historical fiction. So teaching gay history would never include the Sodom and Gomorrah story as history, but it could be used to teach about the reasons LGBTQ people have been terrorized for centuries. This may not work out the way he thinks it will.
