Mylie Biggs, who said women shouldn't run for office, has lost her race for office

The Arizona State Senate candidate said women shouldn’t vote or hold office. She thought she was the exception to the rule. Then came the Blue Tsunami.

One of the strangest state-level races is finally over. It’s one that’s been in my mind for over a year.

It involved a young conservative activist named Mylie Biggs.

In 2024, she appeared on “The Matty McCurdy Program” and said she didn’t believe women ought to be in public office. Like so many other conservative Mormons, she believed women belonged in the kitchen taking care of a brood of babies.

Honestly, I don’t know if I would vote for any female. I don’t know if a female should be in office.

…

… There are a lot of really good women in office. I’m not trying to hate on anyone. Even, like, some really good congresswomen. Yeah, I don’t think women should hold office in general… It’s a man’s position. That’s my stance. I think women should, you know, run the home.

…

… I just want to be a wife. I just want to be a mom. Like, that’s what I wanna do. And I think a lot of other women are waking up to that, too. They’re like, “I don’t want a 9 to 5. I want to be a wife! I want to be a mom!” Like, all the feminism leaving their bodies once they have to, you know, do a 9 to 5… And, like, I totally agree with that. And I think that applies to politics, too, like, women are supposed to be the nurturers and, you know, take care of the home, be mothers.

… If you’re out in Congress or out doing something else, what are your kids doing?… I’m not trying to be sexist in any way. I truly believe that that’s what women are really good at… That’s where they shine is at home, taking care of kids, nurturing. Whereas the men are really good at providing.

And, like, biologically, that’s how it works, too. I think that’s how it was meant to be. And so, like, men in office is… where I’m at. Because I wanna be at home. I wanna be a wife and a mom.

If that’s what she wanted to do, no one was stopping her. But the idea that all women have to share her narrow-minded views—and never run for office because they’re better suited to be homemakers—was ridiculous.

If these were merely the ignorant, uninformed opinions of a random woman in her 20s, perhaps they could be forgiven.

But Mylie Biggs wasn’t some random person. She was the candidate for the Arizona State Senate, hoping to win the seat that her father, right-wing MAGA cultist Rep. Andy Biggs, once held for 14 years before entering Congress. (Biggs ran for governor this year and got walloped on Tuesday by incumbent Democrat Katie Hobbs.)

She announced her campaign in June of 2025 with a quotation from Ronald Reagan, a line from “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” a proclamation that she loves her “Father in Heaven,” and a declaration that “I too seek to serve.”

It’s not like she was just ad-libbing on that podcast, either. When she appeared back on that same podcast in December, she brought up a hypothetical electoral map showing who would win the presidential race if only women voted. (It was overwhelmingly in Democrats’ favor.)

She responded by laughing it off and saying it was evidence for why women shouldn’t even have the right to vote.

… Have you seen those ones where it’s, like, if women were the only ones to vote, what it would look like? And it’s, like, literally 80% blue? And we’re, like, “Whoa...” Repeal the 19th [Amendment]!

So… the candidate who was running for office because her parents taught her to “value my freedoms” was, just months earlier, suggesting those very freedoms should be taken away from women—women who, let’s remember, she didn’t believe should be running for office in the first place.

What’s bizarre is that Biggs never did much to campaign for office.

After filing an official statement of interest, she basically ghosted the campaign trail:

Biggs still has not filed a campaign finance report, even though the report for the second quarter of 2025 was due on July 21. Her candidate profile on the Arizona Secretary of State’s Office shows she has not raised any money yet.

She ended up raising just under $9,000, more than half of which came out of her own pockets.

I say this was bizarre because her father obviously had campaigning experience. But as far as I can tell, he rarely mentioned her race while running for governor, and when she used her social media, it was to promote his campaign, not her own.

Was it because she was too busy working for the right-wing Arizona Free Enterprise Club? Or because she realized that her own hypocrisy was going to sink her campaign before it ever really began? Not that saying idiotic things ever hurt her father, a well-known conspiracy nut. Mylie apparently said during one podcast appearance, “I love the conspiracies… Don’t get me started on 9/11.” (Oh, please elaborate, Mylie. We must hear more.)

But in a safely red district that backed Trump by over 18 points in 2024, and where the only real competition was in the primaries, not a single Republican bothered challenging her. Maybe that was due to her family name. She ran unopposed and became the Republican nominee this past July—while her Democratic opponent, Stephanie Walsh, was an engineer and business owner.

There wasn’t a lot of media interest in this race for an obvious reason: The outcome seemed predetermined. The Arizona Capitol Times published a brief article on the two candidates in August, calling the district “reliably Republican” and saying a Democratic upset would be a “long shot.”

“This is a ruby red district in a pretty low-information race with a name that voters have come to know,” [political consultant Barrett] Marson said. “Mylie Biggs can start measuring her office for curtains.”

The outlet asked Biggs about her podcast comments, but she simply shrugged them off:

Biggs told the Arizona Capitol Times this week that she was speaking hyperbolically with a friend, but that there are a lot of women in office she respects. She sees Sine Kerr as a mentor, she added.

“I think being a woman running for office shows the change and the distinction of what I really believe. I could have used better words,” she said, adding she’ll be cautious in the future about how she phrases things.

Those earlier comments were not hyperbolic. You can hear the audio for yourself. She clearly believed this nonsense.

That’s what the campaign was, though. Democrats had a dream candidate and they were up against a complete Republican buffoon... but would any of that matter in ruby-red Maricopa County?

Walsh didn’t mention Biggs during her campaign, choosing to highlight her own qualifications instead, and Biggs didn’t mention Walsh because she wasn’t even campaigning.

Then came the Blue Tsunami.

Democrats not only won a legislative trifecta in Arizona for the first time since 1966, Mylie Biggs became their biggest casualty. It was a close race—which you would expect in a district like this—but Walsh came out on top.

Biggs hasn’t mentioned this at all on social media. Her most recent post (as of this writing) is from October, just urging people to vote… for her dad.

In any case, she’ll now have more time to stay at home and not work instead of having any power to force other women to do the same. Because she was never running to represent women. She was running to erase them. She didn’t want to “serve.” She wanted to rule.

Maybe she thought this would be a cakewalk for her. But a great opponent in a wave election proved no match for a Republican who never campaigned and didn’t believe women should be doing that sort of thing anyway.
