Beyond the religion, the person is evidently "that stupid" in the sense of believing the teen artist is part of some vast anti-Christian cponspiracy instead of believing the teen artist drew symbols she thought were inclusive, but which the commenter does not.
“When adults pretend things that are like real life, it’s a mental illness,” says Danielle Beight. “We need counselors, we need medication that’s going to help bipolar disorder, fix their brains.”
I couldn't agree with you more Ms. Beight....
Oh, you were talking about the fact that LGBTQ people exist and not the made up bs about a sky daddy who impregnated a teenager to give birth to himself so he could 'sacrifice' himself and rise from the dead to sit in the kingdom of heaven. I think maybe you are the one that needs help dear.
These people are so objectively DUMB. Calling transgender people mentally ill and then saying they’re bipolar... clearly they have no idea what bipolar disorder is because it is completely unrelated to being transgender. It’s so frustrating - they say the stupidest things with absolute undeserved confidence.
All of this controversy over a child’s painting... it’s just so ridiculous.
The sad fact is that most if not all the people who attack the LGBTQ+ community care little about the details of who we are. All they're interested in is a target to spew their venom at. They want someone they can be better than and dismiss and/or assail as they please.
They've taken what was originally perceived as a religion of love and turned it on its head.
"Man, can't we all, you know, like, be nice to each other? Wouldn't that be, like, cool?"
"Dude, that's the greatest idea ever! We will proclaim you the Son of God and Good Teacher and go around the world spreading this idea... err... though... we don't really have to be nice to THESE people, do we? You know: THEM."
That is one reason why I can't really hate believers. They have become twisted in their belief. If by some means they could become untwisted, obviously, things would be considerably different.
The trick of course is how to untwist them. No easy task.
They wouldn't care about the difference, even if they actually KNEW it. All they either know or care about is that the LGBTQ+ community is "WEIRD" – which is to say, different from THEM – and they can't deal with that.
How brave they are. They love punching down, don't they? Do they put this much energy into going after the child molesters of their clergy? Or are they too busy vilifying drag queens?
Indeed. That kid put something together which celebrates life and diversity and the joy of living. The parents act as though that artwork were something ugly and depraved, when the only ugly, depraved thing in this discussion is THEM.
These folks are cracking ridiculous, everyday there’s another new demonic influence. The Lilith imagery in the KFC ad campaign makes eating the chicken a portal to your soul. Yoga Barbie, Hamsa Hand, this game character or that cartoon, or anything that doesn’t come from the Bible must be a demon. Ironically, the only place demons exist are in the Bible (and they’re imaginary just like the rest of it), claiming another person’s religious imagery is demonic, even if it is specifically a symbol of peace, is what’s divisive and hateful.
These folks are like the man-o-sphere with finding anything they can claim is either unmanly or “gay”. You see these morons claiming washing your ass or penis is gay because a man is touching a man’s asshole or penis. They’ve even claimed having sex with women is gay if she has any sort of “body count” because the sperm supposedly changes her DNA makes it more manly. And the Venn diagram of these two groups overlaps a great deal.
I just can’t with these people! How exhausting living like this must be. It’s certainly tiring trying to deal with them when they enter my life. Get a grip people, you don’t matter enough for Satan to care if you get to heaven.
One thing I was taught was that if you don't wash your ass well, you'll have a tough time finding any woman who would sleep with you. Fresh unwashed ass scent is NOT an aphrodisiac.
Ok. Not wiping your ass to avoid the "gay" is a new level of stupid. And if they will only sleep with virgin women, and won't touch their own penis, no wonder they're angry. "You're so horny, you've turned mean."
Wow. Let's not just throw the baby out with the bathwater. Let's throw out the whole maternity ward with 'em! All of this over a kid's picture (which I personally find charming and reflective of no small amount of talent). I suppose it's a fact that deluded people will find any evil thing they want to find if they try hard enough. As for modifying the pic, were I the artist, I'd take it down before ever yielding to such a demand. I couldn't draw anything that good if my life depended on it. The kid should be proud. As for the bent-out-of-shape parents? Well, there's still this:
It's no wonder all our houses are brown and all our cars are black, white or grey. I wouldn't have even noticed the colors on the shirts of the kids in the drawing if I wasn't trying to figure out what the bigots are going on about. Their closets must be incredibly boring without any color at all. I mean, it's bad enough that they are now afraid of rainbows* but now they can't have blue with lavender, tan with pink or even grey if it's paired with purple. Christ on a cracker people! You think trans people need a shrink?!!
*Yes, the Christian symbol that shows God's promise to never kill all of humanity but one incestuous family is NOW something they are afraid of...because gay people are icky.
I saw Hemant’s headline and made a point to look at the mural before reading the text. I completely missed the kid’s shirts and the “demon”. I did spot the Hamsa hand, didn’t know what it was, and figured that was the issue.
I'm fairly happy with Substack currently but I really wish it would not continuously reorder the posts while I'm reading or writing. Right now, it's not too big a deal but if we get hundreds of people in here at once it will be unreadable.
I'm using yaytext on my laptop, and obviously, it works pretty well. How well it might work on a phone (presuming that's what you're using, I don't know. I tend to doubt it's browser-dependent. I think what yaytext does is exploit the full UTF-8 character set, but I'm not certain.
I'm still trying to figure out if it's Unicode why Unicode needs all these extra glyphs for the Latin alphabet. I know it's 4M symbols but adding emoji we may get there. :) (It doesn't appear to be a non-printing code point like zwsp)
well has anyone considered that the artist...you know, with a Latino last name..may also be the source of their ire? Their ignorance and hate know no bounds..
If those kids want healthcare, they need to pull themselves up by the bootstraps and get jobs. Are there no meat packing plants, are there no coal mines.
My grandfather on my mother's side worked in the mine. He actually got out of the underground bit eventually and started working above ground which may be saved his life – plus I don't think he was ever conscripted in World War I, but he did go and I think it was the gas that might've ruined his lungs.
My paternal grandfather's father worked in coal mines too. He quit to work on a barge, not better living conditions, but it saved my grandfather's life, his lungs were too fragile to works in or near a mine.
At this point, I'm going to say that the real objection to this mural was simply that it doesn't appear to have had a Christian cross anywhere, so it wasn't Jesus-y enough. After all, if there's no Jesus, it must be Satanic, right? (eyeroll)
Don't even get me started on the way the alleged 'Christian adults' apparently made the teenage artist leave in tears. Christian love at its finest is worse than a case of rabies, seems like.
As for this being an example of why liberals so often think conservatives are just in it to inflict pain, well, I don't know if that's really the case or not. I know my parents would have had a fit at the accusation, and insisted it was about 'tough love' and making people better, but it's hard to argue that the result here isn't worse for the entire local community. They'd have also said these locals weren't very good Christians, but we all know No True Scotsman around here when it appears. Funny how so many conservative arguments fail when examined carefully, isn't it?
Whitney, you have some good points, but I think the absence of a cross in the mural is not important to these folks. They don't want to be included in an inclusive community; they want to be supreme in a completely EXclusive community, one that has entirely eliminated all other religious viewpoints and all other social attitudes. They want absolute conformity to their ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving.
With respect, Whitney, it's not about presence/absence of the cross. It's about their goddamned vindictive political agenda. LGBT churches and LGBT-friendly churches all have crosses (along with all the other usual christian images), yet these people loathe them quite unanimously.
This has some pretty strong "𝘣𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘯 𝘪𝘵" energy.
Except, y'know, the spider was a child with a paintbrush.
So what are their own children going to do, now? Just go without the services the health center provided, I guess. Must've seemed worth the sacrifice to them, but I can't see it. How gnarled and dead does your heart have to be before you're willing to harm your own children rather than help others- and all over a bit of paint on a wall? "Well, someone tried to be nice to the queers, guess it's time to bulldoze the place! No more healthcare for anybody."
Pro-suffering. There's no other way to explain it. It's not about "protecting the children" from those 𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴 because they're hurting their own, too. The cruelty is the point. This is what evil looks like.

We could say this about adults who believe that Satan and demons are real and are infiltrating children’s murals and gym classes. I mean, these people actually harm others while transgender people are only trying to live, and are often the focus of the harm by the crazy demon believing folks.
I wonder if there’s some credible threats of violence that’s driving the board to dump the HEALTH CARE FACILITY. Fucking, who does this? Why is this even remotely okay? Even if it’s about the utility bill, the benefit of the clinic is huge, make a sacrifice. But seriously, the mural was lovely.
Evidently, any piece of art work that depicts people of color, gays, and the trans-gendered as full-fledged human beings with rights, is seen as a threat to white, conservative, Christianity. It is NEVER the job of the public schools to backstop anybody's religion or politics.
And so, not content to deny healthcare to trans kids, they've now decided to deny healthcare to ALL kids. These people are so swinishly stupid and vindictive there isn't even a word for them.
"People were talking about how we need to pray the gay away.” For Christ's sake, the christian church has been trying to pray LGBT people out of existence for 2000 dumbfucking years. If they're too goddamned stupid to have figured out, after all that time, that being LGBT is part of nature, then they might at the very least have decided that their "omnipotent" god must be okay with it. But no, no way, not these quiz kids.
Of all the goddamned dumbfucking clowns in all the goddamned dumbfucking human race, these jerks really take the prize.
To be fair, they tried stabbing, hanging, shooting, legislating, burning, and gassing us out of existence too... and had no greater success in the long term. They've been very thorough in their efforts, but they always seem to think that if they try 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦, their plans will finally succeed and there'll be no more LGBTQ people. Then they pat themselves on the back to congratulate themselves on a slaughter well-slain, go and pop out a dozen more kids to celebrate... and are shocked sideways when some of 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 end up being more of 𝘶𝘴.
If there's any better evidence out there that we're a completely normal and expected part of the natural human condition, I haven't seen it yet.
If no one talks about LGBT people, there won't be any LGBT people. Just like if no one talks about the pregnant bride, then the baby is just premature.
Gibbon (himself a considerable homophobe--and rumored closet-case) details some of the tortures inflicted on LGBT people by the "religion of love." They are more horrific than anything Eli Roth ever came up with for his damn torture-porn movies.
1. Showing only kid-types and symbology conservative Christians approve of does not make non-conservative Christians feel loved and accepted. It makes them feel like second class citizens.
2. Division is likely unavoidable, since humans don't agree on what counts as "neutral" or "divisive." There are two rational solutions to this. We can all try and lump our minor disagreements. Or we can white-wall every public space. But congrats, fundies, you seem to have chosen irrational door #3, "destroy the health center" rather than choose either.
“None of us are that stupid” .... Then how do you explain believing in some mythical sky fairy watching over everything you do?
Beyond the religion, the person is evidently "that stupid" in the sense of believing the teen artist is part of some vast anti-Christian cponspiracy instead of believing the teen artist drew symbols she thought were inclusive, but which the commenter does not.

Heaven forfend they should attempt to confront someone who is their physical or intellectual equal! They might pee their pantz! EEEEK! 😱

If you've had my gilled chicken, then yes.
Edit: sigh...grilled chicken.
Where do you find chicken with gills? Can I get them through Amazon?
Chicken of the Sea?
Sorry, Charlie. Don't Squeeze the Charmin. Time to make the donuts.
Can I squeeze the tuna?
What you do with the tuna after you get home is between you and the cat.
Chicken with gills? I picture a remake of the old Lloyd Bridges series retitled "Sea Hent."
Coincidentally, TBS is now playing the 𝘍𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘴 episode where Joey did a commercial for a Japanese lipstick for men.

And the bride just ate a watermelon for breakfast.
😂 That is literally my husband's favorite joke!
Gibbon (himself a considerable homophobe--and rumored closet-case) details some of the tortures inflicted on LGBT people by the "religion of love." They are more horrific than anything Eli Roth ever came up with for his damn torture-porn movies.
Da frak? I guess "repaint the wall white" wasn't sufficient, because gay kids might still get health services?

Conservative mindsets are why we can't have nice things.
