"I do not support any show, performance or artistic expression which denigrates others—in this case, women—for any reason…"

Good to know that you're against church services.

cdbunch's avatar

But that's different. We're just telling women to say in their God-ordained place (under men's boots)

If we have so much dignity, why do so many preachers keep harping on what miserable unworthy sinners we are and how we are nothing without their deity and their churches and their collection plates?

When I was a kid and questioned some spaghetti-shaped piece of dogma, the priests always had the same answer, it's a divine mystery.

jomicur's avatar

Not only that, but allowing women to control their own bodies and healthcare would really, really, really insult their dignity.

So, the same folks who bark about how men are being feminized like femininity is evil, are the same folks who claim DRessing As a Girl is disrespectful to women. I’m not buying your white knighting, shit for brains. You cannot spend decades (centuries really) slinging female attributes as a fucking insult then turn around and vilify the folks who, despite hearing the insults flung at themselves, embrace those same attributes as misogynistic.

You are misogynistic. You are insulting women. Your beliefs are severing the threads of human dignity.

"Does a drag show preserve a single thread of human dignity? I think not."

He is mistaken. Drag shows are a necessity for the preservation of human dignity. The self confidence needed to perform in one 𝘥𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴 human dignity.

"I believe every human being is created in the image of God and, therefore, a person of dignity. Being created in God’s image is the basis of Natural Law."

So, he believes God is a bipedal ape, and natural law can be discovered by observing chimpanzees and bonobos? Probably not, and if he can't accept basic facts about biology, he has no business being president of a university, let alone making decisions about what a group of students is allowed to do.

"I believe every human being is created in the image of God"

So, are you in favor in women pastors/elders or are you saying that anyone categorised female at birth is not human ? 🤔

If being human is to be like you I pass.

Now I think that might've actually been an improvement. Congrats, Deathsentence- you've got a socialist rooting for a megacorporation. Slooooow clap.

"Does a drag show preserve a single thread of human dignity?"

That's a good one. I've been a passionate film buff since I was a kid, and I honestly can't think of a genre of movie more demeaning to human dignity than Biblical epics. Badly written and directed to the point of imbecility, they blatantly insult the intelligence not only of their audience but of the actors who appeared in them. Angela Lansbury said the entire cast were laughing up their sleeves at the dialog they had to deliver in Samson and Delilah. Paul Newman was so mortified by The Silver Chalice he tried to buy up all the copies of the film and have them destroyed. And there are scads of similar anecdotes. But somehow I don't think Wendler will ban screenings of those films on campus this Easter to save the human dignity of his students.

Wendler isn't a politician and he isn't elected - he is president of West Texas A&M University. He doesn't need votes to stay in power.

Richard S. Russell's avatar

He may not have been ELECTED to that position, but he got there because somebody who WAS elected PUT him there.

These and a large majority of similar issues are due to these religious freakshows being incapable of comprehending this:

NO religion gets to decide what is or isn't true. NO religion gets to decide what is or isn't moral.

That's just reality but, in the US, it's the effing law--it's exactly what the establishment clause is all about. letting a religion's claims/doctrines/dogmas/creeds/etc justify any aspects of any law or regulation IS establishing that religion. Those 2 sentences should be the first thing out of anyone's mouth when debating believers who can't comprehend what the 1st Amendment says and keep insisting in foisting their effed up religious crap on everyone else.

This ignorant fool of an official in a public institution is setting policies that affect a LOT of folks based on his religious beliefs, it can't be more simple, it can't be more transparent, that it's unconstitutional. Why not ban pork, the religion of a LOT of folks say it's sinful, Christianity isn't one. If they would object to outlawing eating pork, they should have it shoved in their faces that's exactly what they're doing when trying to ban or punish folks for behaving in ways Christianity deems sinful. What the Christian god or religion says about anything utterly, absolutely, totally empty of meaning for non-christians, no different than commands from Ra or Zeus. I'm beyond sick to death of almost everyone giving a pass to christians when they're condemning others as immoral, they REALLY need to have those two sentences shoved in their faces.
