"he says Amy Coney Barrett shouldn’t be a judge...that, he claims, is what the Bible commands."

Uh, Jason, darling, there is a female judge in your bible. He name is Deborah. I realize that jerks like you only use the bible to reinforce your own opinions and prejudices, but you might have a shot at at least some semblance of surface consistency.

I agree with you that she shouldn't be a judge, Jase, but the bible and the fact that she's a woman aren't really the issues. IOW, buy a fucking clue.

Deborah is old testament, doesn't count.

Jesus says Old Testament counts in Matthew 5:17-18.

I live in the western part of Washington. Graber is an example of just why Spokane is KEPT in the Jesusland eastern part of the state.

Such violent rhetoric from this "man." Why on Earth is he not getting a knock on his door and being charged as a religious terrorist? Oh, that's right. Christians are so very persecuted here in the US. :S

You want anyone who grooms children to be executed by a gunshot to the head, Grabass?

What ARE Christians but the biggest groomers in the world? Better get ready to wield your gun against your own...and yourself.

Expand full comment

Another word for "grooming" is "INDOCTRINATION." The only difference is the level of subtlety involved, and the fact is that Christians HAVE to indoctrinate their young in order to keep them in the flock.

No gay person should be able to breathe air, Grabass? If anyone said that about Baptists, you'd have shrieked in a voice that would've shattered glass and them screamed PERSECUTION!!!

You're a Baptist. Seems to me that the SBC are doing their best to play catch up with the RCC on child molesting clergy. You know the RCC. That Christian sect you hate so much yet have so much in common with. Might want to remove that plank/beam/log from your own eye first, hypocrite.

(oh and by the way, your bible says that you are not to criticize your fellow believers. that includes catholics)

Removing the plank from his eye wouldn't help very much. He still has rocks in his head.

I'd love to show him a different area on his body he could put that plank. I'd even volunteer to insert it for him.

Their bible says a LOT of stuff, too much of which they either just choose to ignore or aren't aware of in the first place. With evangelicals, it's less about Jesus or being good than it is about power plays and faux-persecution and carping about anything that rubs them the wrong way. Utterly childish ... and as it comes to that:

When I sort by "New First," it looks like your comment is directed towards me. But when I sort by "Top First" (the default setting at Substack), your comment seems to be aimed at Troublesh00ter. Very confusing.

I'm currently on a library computer and don't even see the notification tab.

EDIT Correction. There's the notification tab. And it looks like your comment was meant for me. :)

Canada, where I live, has hate-speech laws that would see this fake Christian get charged and treated like the criminal he is.

Expand full comment

The day that the US has laws like that, I think I'd faint from shock!

Expand full comment

Canada doesn't have a 1st amendment so it's easier to pass hate speech laws here, even though people are infrequently charged with hate speech. A preacher speaking that way needs to feel the weight of the law and know the speech is unacceptable and go to jail if a jury finds him guilty.

Expand full comment

Part of the problem is that details regarding "free speech" aren't spelled out well enough at the federal level. Check me on this, but ideas such as inflammatory or hate speech aren't codified in law at all on the federal level, but have been decided in the courts [kindly keep in mind, I'm NOT a lawyer, and I could be utterly fulla beans on this]. The further problem is that I'm sure there are people in Congress who want to keep those distinctions vague and poorly defined for their bigoted constituents, which only makes matters worse.

Fun 'n' games, eh? 🤦‍♂️

Expand full comment

From what I've learned about the American constitution, it is quite difficult for the government to intrude on speech rights. I'm not a lawyer either but I surmise that some kind of hate speech that incites others to violence which then happens is possibly actionable with criminal charges. I believe a good amount of case law exists for crimes incited by speech.

I agree: politicians play a slippery game of vague lip service while they keep their options open.

Many politicians are lawyers, trained to use words as bullets when necessary.

Problem is, the first amendment also guarantees freedom of religion, which has always been regarded as a get-out-of-jail-free card for pretty much anything christians, especially clergy, want to do. And they're working tirelessly to make sure the few exceptions that could condemn them get papered over.

Boy, they're REALLY saying the quiet part out loud these days, ain't they? Sadly, this is not only nothing new, it's more of a reflection of how insecure these evangelical types are in the face of growing diversity and acceptance of minorities.

The REAL problem here is that this guy could very well inspire one of his followers to do a Pulse nightclub number ... which is why this kind of speech needs to be CAREFULLY considered (if not made actionable).

Expand full comment

Should someone actually take this guy up on his rhetoric and execute gays in a mass shooting, Graber would do the Glenn Beck thing: Cower under his desk and deny any and all culpability for the shooter's actions.

He's a loudmouthed amoral chickenshit with a Get Out of Jail FREE card from his religion.
