I mean, if a piece of dyed cloth that isn't pushing an establishment of religion triggers you this much, I think that statement would be accurate had they actually made it.
For fuck's sake...
I wasn't always a liberal. I was a fundamentalist once. You know what I fucking did when I had to work with people who didn't believe what I believed?
My fucking job. Without bitching. Because I was a professional. Not a fucking whiny ass martyrbater.
Apparently there's a color for every gay sex 'flavor'.
(Nope, there's not nearly enough colors on that flag for such a thing to be possible. Would be fun to speculate within his earshot what color(s) he secretly is. "Eric, yeah I'd bet you he's an orange and a pink!")
They want some attention. They need to be in control over other people's lives. They think more about our community than we do ourselves. It amazes me that bigots seem to an increasing degree get away with the argument that celebrating pride excludes and discriminates against them.
Pride Month is just a way of reminding bigots they are NOT the main character. They are losers. Stay queer, stay spooky, and don't let anybody make you feel bad about it!
Happy Pride Month to all the homophobes, transphobes and all around bigots. I hope you have a VERY uncomfortable month. I would like to wear this rainbow flag shirt in front of you 👇
Happy Pride! Once again I will be the aro ace mascot other queer people find adorable because of how utterly clueless I am about sex. (See? Being queer is not, in fact, all about sex like the bigots keep insisting it is. I've never had it and I'm keeping it that way).
They need to have their comfortable, privileged lives turned upside down. The ensuing weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth would be music to my ears.
Every atheist who's managed to live to through the Christmas season or been told to 'have a blessed day!' has learned to do the same. Water off a duck's back. As Jefferson said, 'It does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.' Ole Tom never met today's thin-skinned, supremely fragile christian males who get traumatized walking past a flag they don't believe in. Guess christians were made of sterner stuff back then.....
Well - considering TJ was NOT actually Christian, it tracks that he should be so pragmatic. The "Christians" at the time were actually the people the early Founders were trying to get AWAY from - meanwhile, insane Fundamentalists and Quakers, etc - were traversing the land and murdering/ "converting"/ enslaving the Indegenous peoples of this land - so it's a LONG legacy of thos people wanting to control and dominate others - "in the name of god".
Even as a Diest, he was still concerned about the rights of conscience and marked as one his great achievements writing and getting passed into law the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, which set the table for the Constitutional amendments written into federal law by his friend and protege, James Madison. So, it isn't like he didn't have a dog in that fight. We all do.
Xmas is yet another opportunity to celebrate with food and booze and so on. Lots of fun myths (Santa, Krampus, etc.) and such, too. I don't have to do the Jesus stuff if I don't want to. So I generally don't.
Not in the 20's, '30's, '40's or '50's-Christians have always been intolerant of LGBT anything, and chances are if it was realized that rainbow colors were being used by the LGBT community, the rainbow flag would've been destroyed/disdained/forbidden back then too.
"I'm oppressed because I'm not getting special treatment."
Seriously, has there ever been a case in the US of someone being discriminated just for being a Christian because it seems like all the times I hear about Christians being the victims, it's because of their shitty behavior and not for their beliefs.
Do you remember that exchange in congress, where a congresswoman questioned the Housing Secretary, because he had claimed that all kinds of people were getting 'special' treatment? She questioned him to explain what that kind of 'special' treatment was and he could not answer here.
I think the underlying issue was that his department was planning to end a programme where homeless people with Aids/HIV could get access to housing .....
If I can play James-whisperer, I think James means that a common Christian retort is “you’re a Reddit atheist.” Which is apparently meant as some sort of putdown. Of course it is just name-calling. And fails to address substantive idea.
A decade or so ago I used to see “internet atheist” a lot but that seems to have disappeared in favor of a more precise term (Reddit).
Usually it was Protestant discriminating against Christians who weren't their specific flavor of Protestantism. They only stop when they need to include them to maintain Majority status. Even then they can't help themselves, see the DOD suddenly declaring Mormons no longer Christian.
Atheists in this country are bombarded with Christian images daily. Unless they are 10 Commandments recreations on public lands or in public schools, we don't have hissies over them.
Personally, I'd call him into the office tell him it's time to retire, and then give him a big retirement package; it's pretty clear (to me) that he has no place in the current workspace of the 21st century if he's going to be saying and doing things like this. He looks old enough to retire to me anyway.
If you don't like the 10 C's, IGWT, etc. in your classroom / courtroom / govt. office, then just don't look it at. That's the religious nutter's answer, so it should apply here too, amirite?
Well, that would mean giving others the same rights, and that would be persecution. Based on the many examples given here on The Friendly Atheist, it's persecution if they aren't allowed to control others.
I thought the Right was against working from home. I thought, they wanted everyone in the office no matter what.
The histrionics surrounding the city’s help for his mental stresses makes me laugh. If not for the history of cis-het, white, Christian men forcibly committing and lobotomizing women and people of color when they don’t submit to their “leadership” this would be funny. It’s always cis-het, white, Christian men doing Soviet style reeducation, calling other worldviews mental illness, and then they’re the first to cry when someone points out their bad behavior. That’s what this is. The flag, the month, the parades are reminders that cis-het, white, Christian men are the bad guys who have caused immense pain and suffering on LGBTQ people, and also that they can’t keep LGBTQ people down, and they do not like the image in that particular mirror, or most metaphorical mirrors. They want their rose colored mirror that shows what heroes they are for civilizing the savages. Ha ha! They don’t want to see their genocides as bad things.
Anyway, fuck this dude. What a whiney bitch that can’t just walk past a fucking flagpole without getting butthurt.
They ONLY wanted asses in seats as a Push Back against acknowledging COVID was real - Christian Nationalists (among others) ALWAYS push back on science, because science (like evidence), challenges their skewed reality. I mean- there are Christians in America who have changed their tune from: "Dinosaur bones were planted by Satan to tempt us and challenge our faith", to NOW claiming "God created all, so he created Dinosaurs and they LIVED AMONG HUMANS" - WHAAAAT THEE FVCK?!! Some Christians are just simply Bat. SH!T. CRAZY. I used to just color them ALL with the same swath - but I recently came across some reasonable Pastors and politicians (like Talarico) who have become more vocal about being more "Christ-Like" and showing Grace to others, and challenging the hate mongers, that apparently, cherry pick language (like for the last 2000+ yrs), to serve their own fears and hate. Interesting - I still wholeheartedly believe Humans holding onto Religion will be our ultimate downfall/ ruination - but, I could stomach a world where IF people CHOOSE for themselves to believe in certain fairytales, and those fairytales guided them toward Loving and Helping others - ALL others, that could work. The bigger problem, it appears, are those who CHOOSE to USE religion as a way to Control, Use, and ultimately cause Harm. FVCK those people.
How is changing his parking space "separate but equal"? He was never told he wasn't allowed to use the main entrance. He was never told that Christians with his particular belief (that it is a sin to acknowledge that gay people exist) are restricted to the back door. He just thinks that the only possible religious accommodation should be something that allows him to not even be near a pride flag. In other words, he wants the entire city to bow to his beliefs. The only irreparable harm is to his already elevated blood pressure that the hate and anger have led him to.
Reasonable accommodations? When your religious fee-fees are hurt, reasonable just won't cut it! You have to stop acknowledging that other people exist and/or have any rights! Otherwise, jebus will have a crying fit! I'm really excited this morning! Can you tell by the number of exclamation points I'm using?!
I wonder how he'd respond to being asked if that meant anyone who normally used that other entrance was a victim of actionable discrimination.
But in fact he has no standing to raise any complaint about "separate but equal" facilities when that is exactly what he is demanding for himself, it's just that in his case the "separate" facility is his house.
My advice to him is to do what every one his fundamentalist ilk tell people who object to the 10 Commandments being put on a wall of every classroom: You don't like it? Just don't look at it. Which is, in this case, a viable option.
Also, their whole “I’m a nationalist and a Christian, so what’s wrong with being a Christian nationalist?” schtick is the very definition of the wrong kind of pride from their book. But they still promote that thinking. Their jingoism, nationalism, and whatnot being repackaged as patriotism is the very sin of pride that god hates not the pride of being who you are and not hiding it, it’s the pathological pride that harms others that is the problem. (Unless you’re a Catholic, then you should be ashamed and guilty no matter who you are, never take pride in yourself, guilt guilt guilt only. )
Christians of this stripe are the exact embodiment of all the seven deadly sins, the opposite of the Ten Commandments, and any number of lesser sins enumerated in the Bible. The ONLY way this becomes a hostile work environment is if he makes it a hostile work environment. Sounds like he needs a good firing if he's the one being hostile over gay people existing. The city is being way more accommodating than they should be. Imagine if someone was openly hostile to Christians existing? This is what Christian privilege looks like.
Who woulda thunk it: yet another man-child who thinks he should be catered to, because his fee-fees get all hurt when a piece of cloth, bearing a certain pattern, is publicly displayed where he works. My guess is that Batman wants to draw some attention to himself and maybe benefit from a little civil suit action as well. Were I his supervisor, the message would be clear and blunt:

Exactly! They call us snowflakes when we call them out for violating the Constitution, but they lose their minds over a colorful piece of cloth!
But, but, it has SO many colors!! Oh, the humanity!!!
Did someone say, "Hue manatee?!?"
https://ibb.co/GqszT7f
A very prideful manatee, he is!
He's downright GAY! 😁
Apparently there's a color for every gay sex 'flavor'.

Happy Pride Month! 🏳️🌈
Currently flying my Jane Austen-themed Pride Flag that says, 'More Pride, Less Prejudice.'
OMG I need one of those, RIGHT NOW.
Happy Pride! Once again I will be the aro ace mascot other queer people find adorable because of how utterly clueless I am about sex. (See? Being queer is not, in fact, all about sex like the bigots keep insisting it is. I've never had it and I'm keeping it that way).
How many crosses do I have to look at every single day?
THIS !!!!
And this: "If your faith is endangered by fabric, maybe your God’s not as powerful as you imagine." Excellent summary, Hemant.
More like their faith wasn't/isn't as strong as they thought it was.
They need to have their comfortable, privileged lives turned upside down. The ensuing weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth would be music to my ears.

I want to know the last time an atheist demanded special treatment. I suspect I'll be waiting a while...
Well, if you consider "special" to be "equal", or even "equitable"......
Maybe we should start. Fair's fair. :)
And maybe not. We can stand on our own two feet. Batman? I seriously wonder.

Christians insist we demand special treatment all the time. Like mentioning we should have equal rights.
Christians will also throw out their thought-stopping Internet cliché "This sounds like Reddit atheist."
¿ Que ?
If I can play James-whisperer, I think James means that a common Christian retort is “you’re a Reddit atheist.” Which is apparently meant as some sort of putdown. Of course it is just name-calling. And fails to address substantive idea.

Well, if you count Christians discriminating against other Christians for being the wrong 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘥 of Christians...
That is by far the most common kind of Christian persecution.
But, you must admit, their silly beliefs are really silly. A religion based on nothing has no value, and that describes ALL OF THEM.
Batty needs to grow a set.
Xtians claim to have an awesome god who is their shield, sword and strength, yet a simple flag that stands for inclusion sends them into a tailspin.
Puny god.
But religion is exclusionary by definition. If you don’t believe as they do they will banish you to their Hell.

Seriously, no one sane has ever turned down a better parking space anywhere.
Xtians as a whole might not have mental illness, but this guy does. He said so himself
Right-wing Christians NEVER attack the "proud to be an American..." line from God Bless the USA from Lee Greenwood.
Right?!?
Also, their whole “I’m a nationalist and a Christian, so what’s wrong with being a Christian nationalist?” schtick is the very definition of the wrong kind of pride from their book. "proud to be an American" Agreed, Lee singing about the MAGA cult American, including ones outside of the United States.
