This should be prosecuted as a religious hate crime, but it won't be. He'll get the minimum fine, and TST of Iowa will be lucky to get a penny.

Actually, now that I think about it, the jury's gonna find him not guilty despite the fact he confessed.

It's a forgone conclusion, so they'll just save taxpayer money and give it to the police for more funding. Because, you know, more guns always solve problems.

Unless it ends up in the politicians pockets.

I agree that it’s a hate crime but unfortunately he will get away with this. I’m a Christian and I’d not tear down the display. They have a right to put it there and just because I’m a Christian doesn’t mean others are.

What I was trying to say is that while I’m a Christian, it doesn’t mean I can demand the world live in accordance with my beliefs because they have different beliefs. I’m sick so I might have made very little sense.

It is a common misunderstanding with veterans that there are folks who are protected by the constitution and folks who are not. And most of all there’s a misunderstanding that veterans have a say in who gets what rights by being a veteran. As though they are the ultimate arbiters of how the constitution is applied. Unfortunately, the SCOTUS is the arbiter and has been corrupted to be just as ignorant of its meaning as the yokel veterans shouting god guns and babies. It isn’t like there’s a week at basic that is focused on civics or any special training on the subject. But people go to them for expertise.

Their bible tells them to obey all earthly laws and authorities. They are an affront not only to the secular laws of this country, but to their own religious beliefs as well.

Congratulations, Mr. Cassidy! You've saved the state of Iowa from a scary fake goat head. Boldly forth you went, pitting your shiny, empty head against the shiny, empty head of Baphomet! Truly, Iowans can sleep soundly in their beds tonight, secure in the knowledge that you, savior of Christendom and decapitator of statues, did bravely- and at great risk to the contents of your supporters' wallets- make some extra work for the janitor.

This doesn't change the fact that the judge should throw the book at him.

It’s aaaalllllll the Satanists’ fault. They knew the Christians were going to be upset, they purposely put up the statue to goad them into this violent act. Don’t blame the good Christian veteran who was so upset he traveled hundreds of miles to beat up this defenseless statue. If the Satanists would only hide in a closet and let the nativity go up wherever we want to put it, then none of this would happen. I mean if they want to change minds they would blend into the background and be invisible to everyone. In fact, they should just be Christians like real Americans. Pick your battles, pick only the battles that don’t affect change or make Christians uncomfortable or battles they wouldn’t notice. They should just know their place and ignore the lynchings.

This is what Christian terrorism looks like. This is the sort of childish, immature behavior we always see from 'fine, upstanding Christians' when they don't get their way. To some extent, I think I root cause is a love of violence as preached so very often in Christian services, materials, and media. You cannot preach violence every Sunday and then be surprised when some congregant allows that message to override good sense. At some point, violence becomes not just an acceptable solution, but the only solution to any and all problems, real or imagined.

At the end of the day, it's not possible to both love your neighbor and make every effort to destroy his property. Loving people means you understand when people disagree, and finding ways of overcoming that disagreement that both sides can live with. The fact seems to be that Christians can't do that, and no matter how much screaming about how 'God demands!' they do, it's still the equivalent of a grade school temper tantrum; just more proof that Christianity is not now, nor was it ever, the 'religion of love' it likes to claim.
