So, I'd prefer none of my tax dollars be used to add extra labels to published bibles. Or any of the West Point books for that matter. The 'library' solution is sufficient for all them: stamp the inside cover to deter theft and help folks recognize this is academy property.

However if this is the way they want to go, then the obvious next step is for folks to donate copies of the Qu'ran, Satanic Bible, etc. for the cadet's use, and demand West Point put it's official crest on them.

Though I could see the theft issue going way up. Satanic bible with West Point crest is a much cooler collector's item than a regular bible with it. So...better donate 100 of them. Just to be sure.

Absolutely! Does the Kama Sutra count as a religious book?

I bet Bobby Henderson would be pleased as punch to see a picture of the FSM bible with the West Point crest on it.

During their time at West Point, cadets take three oaths. The first is the Oath of Allegiance, taken at the time of arrival. In it, they swear a commitment to support of the national government, all legal orders and, most important of all, the Constitution.

Not a president, not a party, not an ideology and certainly NOT a religion. The Constitution, along with LEGAL orders and our secular government. Seems the academy has made a glaring error here.

They really can't stop pissing on the Constitution, can they? Following the Constitution is now branded "far-left politics". Any policy that pushes back at 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 ostentatious Christian proselytizing is branded "far-left politics". What does removing the USMA crest from bible covers at West Point do? It saves a bit on printing costs, since the covers don't need that much gold foil. It also shows a bit of respect for the fact that not every cadet is a Christian. That has been a fact for many decades. Demanding that the crest be placed on the bibles is a show of force. It insists that West Point is explicitly and exclusively Christian. It is telling the cadets that whatever Danger Yam orders is explicitly sanctioned by God, and they must obey without question, even to the point of violating their oath to the Constitution. It is a message that this is no longer the United States, but the Republic of Gilead.

Oh, BER-ROTHER! I can see Mikey Weinstein of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation falling on THIS with both feet! This is precisely the kind of crap he has been fighting against since before I can remember. Putting what amounts to a military brand on the bible effectively says that West Point is all but a Christian organization and that those who have other beliefs or NO BELIEFS are relegated to the second tier.

Expect the Freedom From Religion Foundation, American Atheists, Americans United, and the ACLU to go after this foolishness, hammer and tongs!

“Bowing to religious pressure”, in other words Christian nationalists used death threats and would have used violence to get their way. I notice that when Christians don’t get their way they use tactics such as harassment, intimidation, and even violence (sometimes going right to violence as a form to force people to capitulate to Christian nationalists redneck agenda).

So the corruption is not spending unnecessary money on marking up bibles? And it is honest and saves money to buy specially made bibles?

Honestly, I’m surprised they didn’t pull a Walters and demand the Trump Bible now that removing the crest opened up an opportunity for it.

I cannot believe these people have nothing more pressing to work on. Real problems to address. But we do know that they’re not here to solve problems or even try, they’re here to get power and subject the unwilling to their control. And all the slugs for salt sheeple get off on their own oppression. As long as it hurts their hated groups more than them.

As you clearly state, Val, there are many pressing issues that need attention, but, none more critical than gaining power and maintaining control. They have zero “governing ability.” It is all about the grift.

To me, one of the most amazing components of this ongoing coup is the fact that 💯 percent of elected Republicons HAVE TO capitulate for this to even be possible. They actually fear Shitler more than the American voters, who are going to decimate the fucking Republicons…if we are ever allowed to vote again.

The march toward theocracy continues apace. The religious right has long pushed the notion that this country was somehow founded on their magic book. They do this in spite of the fact our constitution never mentions the words Bible, Jesus, or Christianity, and specifically bans religious tests for holding public office in the United States. They never stop trying to mark their territory.

Having the Academy crest on the bibles used there is not the problem. It's the fact that 1) it was removed during the Biden administration, so the Trump regime has to reverse it; and 2) they made a political spectacle out of putting the crest back on the covers, sending the clear message that they thinkbof non-Christians as less than, and not worthy of being American. No one made a fuss about it's removal, and no one would have said anything about its return if there hadn't been the public demonization of the "left".

*Col. John Henderson, Air Force

*Lt. Cmdr Marvin Stromberg, Navy

*1st Lt. John Hormuth, Air Force

*PFC Hans Kasten, Army
