So, I'd prefer none of my tax dollars be used to add extra labels to published bibles. Or any of the West Point books for that matter. The 'library' solution is sufficient for all them: stamp the inside cover to deter theft and help folks recognize this is academy property.
However if this is the way they want to go, then the obvious next step is for folks to donate copies of the Qu'ran, Satanic Bible, etc. for the cadet's use, and demand West Point put it's official crest on them.
Though I could see the theft issue going way up. Satanic bible with West Point crest is a much cooler collector's item than a regular bible with it. So...better donate 100 of them. Just to be sure.
During their time at West Point, cadets take three oaths. The first is the Oath of Allegiance, taken at the time of arrival. In it, they swear a commitment to support of the national government, all legal orders and, most important of all, the Constitution.
Not a president, not a party, not an ideology and certainly NOT a religion. The Constitution, along with LEGAL orders and our secular government. Seems the academy has made a glaring error here.
And it never will the fanatics have been chipping for at least 50 years that I know of. Madelyn Murray O'Hair made some progress and they are sneakily undoing all the progress.
They really can't stop pissing on the Constitution, can they? Following the Constitution is now branded "far-left politics". Any policy that pushes back at 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 ostentatious Christian proselytizing is branded "far-left politics". What does removing the USMA crest from bible covers at West Point do? It saves a bit on printing costs, since the covers don't need that much gold foil. It also shows a bit of respect for the fact that not every cadet is a Christian. That has been a fact for many decades. Demanding that the crest be placed on the bibles is a show of force. It insists that West Point is explicitly and exclusively Christian. It is telling the cadets that whatever Danger Yam orders is explicitly sanctioned by God, and they must obey without question, even to the point of violating their oath to the Constitution. It is a message that this is no longer the United States, but the Republic of Gilead.
Oh, BER-ROTHER! I can see Mikey Weinstein of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation falling on THIS with both feet! This is precisely the kind of crap he has been fighting against since before I can remember. Putting what amounts to a military brand on the bible effectively says that West Point is all but a Christian organization and that those who have other beliefs or NO BELIEFS are relegated to the second tier.
Expect the Freedom From Religion Foundation, American Atheists, Americans United, and the ACLU to go after this foolishness, hammer and tongs!
“Bowing to religious pressure”, in other words Christian nationalists used death threats and would have used violence to get their way. I notice that when Christians don’t get their way they use tactics such as harassment, intimidation, and even violence (sometimes going right to violence as a form to force people to capitulate to Christian nationalists redneck agenda).
So the corruption is not spending unnecessary money on marking up bibles? And it is honest and saves money to buy specially made bibles?
Honestly, I’m surprised they didn’t pull a Walters and demand the Trump Bible now that removing the crest opened up an opportunity for it.
I cannot believe these people have nothing more pressing to work on. Real problems to address. But we do know that they’re not here to solve problems or even try, they’re here to get power and subject the unwilling to their control. And all the slugs for salt sheeple get off on their own oppression. As long as it hurts their hated groups more than them.
As you clearly state, Val, there are many pressing issues that need attention, but, none more critical than gaining power and maintaining control. They have zero “governing ability.” It is all about the grift.
To me, one of the most amazing components of this ongoing coup is the fact that 💯 percent of elected Republicons HAVE TO capitulate for this to even be possible. They actually fear Shitler more than the American voters, who are going to decimate the fucking Republicons…if we are ever allowed to vote again.
Let the idiots directly affront one of the teachings of the Jessie: be plain and quiet in your faith, do not make spectacle, do not call attention to your faith or status, do not make craven images, this is the word of the laird not of the Commandant of Cadets.
“Judicial Watch's heavy lifting gets results”. Ahem, Judicial Watch’s throwing a toddler tantrum gets results from a parent (institution) who should not be capitulating to the toddler’s demands.
The march toward theocracy continues apace. The religious right has long pushed the notion that this country was somehow founded on their magic book. They do this in spite of the fact our constitution never mentions the words Bible, Jesus, or Christianity, and specifically bans religious tests for holding public office in the United States. They never stop trying to mark their territory.
I know they keep pushing the idea on right-wing media because I've heard it come out of the mouth of my conservative BIL who has never been in a church since my sister insisted their son be confirmed 27 years ago.
TBF, that one is not exclusive to the Nazis. It dates back to the Prussian 17th Century. It was a “field word” (password) used in Gustavus Adolphus’ army during the 30 Years War.
Having the Academy crest on the bibles used there is not the problem. It's the fact that 1) it was removed during the Biden administration, so the Trump regime has to reverse it; and 2) they made a political spectacle out of putting the crest back on the covers, sending the clear message that they thinkbof non-Christians as less than, and not worthy of being American. No one made a fuss about it's removal, and no one would have said anything about its return if there hadn't been the public demonization of the "left".
Religious people tend to forget that there are atheist/secularist/humanist Americans buried at Arlington. Here are 8 noted non-believers interred there
*Col. Robert Ingersoll, Army
*Col. Richard Mason, Army
*Col. John Henderson, Air Force
*Lt. Cmdr Marvin Stromberg, Navy
*1st Lt. John Hormuth, Air Force
*PFC Hans Kasten, Army
*PFC James DeBerg, Army
*1st Lt. John R. Cool, Army
For those curious, yes. It is THAT Robert Ingersoll.
While visiting Arlington years ago, I came across the headstone of Lee Marvin. He was an Oscar-winning actor (always one of my favorites), yet his headstone was remarkably simple. It read "Lee Marvin, PFC, U.S. Marine Corps, World War II", along with birth and death dates. Semper Fi.
I got my hubs tickets for he and my daughter to go to the Hairball, a concert of cover bands of 80s metal bands. Daughter is excited but I haven’t given them to hubs yet, waiting till his bday. It is happening around her birthday and it will be her first concert and she just loves these bands. That’s why I’m sending them, my eldest and I aren’t as interested so we’ll leave them to it.

Let's throw in the Zend Avesta, Talmud, Bhagavad Gita, and the Hidden Words of Baha'ullah, just for good measure!
Absolutely! Does the Kama Sutra count as a religious book?
I bet Bobby Henderson would be pleased as punch to see a picture of the FSM bible with the West Point crest on it.
Of COURSE the Kama Sutra is a religious book! How many people have had positively RELIGIOUS EXPERIENCES from following that tome! 😁
Actually, it's really a Hinduism sacred book 🤣
I've been known to yell "oh god!" over some of it's practices.
Insane, ugly USA. Unbelievable !
Every book on this list:

The muthafuckin MAGATS are constantly chiseling away at the so-called “separation of church and state.” It never stops.
And it never will the fanatics have been chipping for at least 50 years that I know of. Madelyn Murray O'Hair made some progress and they are sneakily undoing all the progress.
They want to be the next Iraq.
Yes, it's jealousy of their Theocratic rule, that drives their hatred.

"they must obey without question, even to the point of violating their oath to the Constitution"
They won't violate their oath after they are told: "The constitution is whatever your President tells you it is."
When you go so far to the right, everything else becomes extreme left. And they could not even see true socialists with a telescope on a clear night.

Atheists should ask for the crest to be put on all the science and history books just to troll the christains.
"send a message to other countries that our military has a religious mission"
20 years too late

“A mission from God?” Had W just watched the “Blues Brothers” movie?
The crusades are over, and the Christians lost! Get over it, Christians!

I am not optimistic about that.

To the authors of Project 2025, this has no relevance. Instead it's a minor inconvenience.
Indeed. They piss all over everything in sight, and it reeks.
I'm surprised that West Point isn't using Trump bibles.
Give them time. He's busy with so many other grifts.
Why are they “using” bibles, at all? I am not knowing.
Gott mit uns.
TBF, that one is not exclusive to the Nazis. It dates back to the Prussian 17th Century. It was a “field word” (password) used in Gustavus Adolphus’ army during the 30 Years War.

Not for long if drumpster or couchfucker have their way.
I was thinking the same thing.

More christian Bukkake, ejaculating religious splooge all over everything they can, ugh!
You're not wrong, but ewwww.
I mean, it is pretty accurate.
Wow. I learned a new word today! 🤣
Splooge ?
Cum.
Spunk. Jizz. Skeet. Spoof (that one's for Guerillasurgeon). :)
Baby batter, love juice, Baby gravy, or swimmers.
More? Everything? Ugh? : )
I'll never tell!
Never thought I'd see the word "splooge" right after the word "religious," but I'm glad I lived to see the day when that happened!
I never thought I'd ever hear the words "Christian bukkake."
christain bukkake

Today marks the day that MTV (the real MTV) was born. Here's the very first video they played
youtu.be/W8r-tXRLazs
(The irony of a music video lamenting how music videos killed radio) 🙂
Remember those first couple of years when MTV really was Music Television?
I miss Headbangers Ball.
I miss The Young Ones.
And the Basement Tapes.
MTV started when I was in the Navy. We'd have betting pools on the top 20 countdown.
First MTV video I ever saw was in a hotel room and Don Henley's "The Boys of Summer" was on. I have fond memories of both the music and the visuals.
I want MY MTV!
