Here we go again. Youth pastor = Child Molester. At this point, it's becoming effectively axiomatic, and yet no one in their bubble can bring themselves to see it.

Contemptible.

Expand full comment

That attitude has a lot to do with why the pedophile preachers were able to get away with their crimes for so long. How dare you make such an accusation against a man of God!!

Because they're much too busy spreading the word that it's gay men who groom children for sex. How dare you leftists suggest they should set that great commission aside? Your wokeism is destroying America! Or something. I guess.

Of course they decry wokeism. If the masses were awake they'd see Christian Nationalists/Republicans are one: driving this country off a cliff and two: stealing their rights in the process.

There’s a meme going round, pretty sure it’s been posted on FA comment threads many times, of a wildlife photographer taking a picture of some bird while in the background there’s two rhinos humping and the rhinos are labeled priests and altar boys and the photographer is the church and the bird is drag queens (now, I’m pretty sure the bird has changed depending on the current target of right wing animosity).

Day in and day out we are provided example after example of clergy doing actual, real, and deliberate harm with sexual abuse on children while the world is mainly silent. Yes, I know there are some folks sounding the alarm, making reports and so on, it just falls on deaf ears when it comes to folks who can do something about it. But then some nincompoop in the GOP decides on the next outrage to distract everyone from their criminal incompetence and corruption and just mentions drag queens, and all hell breaks loose folks are lining up with their AR15s to “protect the children” from nothing at all. It boggles the mind. These same folks jumping to violence over drag Queen story hour are the same folks excusing, enabling and hiding the predator clergy in their own churches, if they aren’t also molesting children themselves. (Yes, there are cases of pout boys and other who terrorized libraries who also are prosecuted for sexual assault). It is projection pure and simple.

This needs to end. The sexual abuse in churches needs to stop and the vilification of the innocent must end.

For all the blister and whining men do over the rare possibility that they get wrongly accused of rape, you’d think they’d be a little more careful who they accuse of grooming and assault. But then it’s clear they are telling on themselves. They’d falsely accuse, they do falsely accuse all the time, therefore everyone else is falsely accusing.

I hate to say it but Webb almost certainly trafficked her as well as abusing her. If neither of them had gonorrhea before going, then clearly there was a third party involved on the island. Look for unexpected deposits into his accounts, and nail him for that too.

$10 says that when his wife divorces him, the church says it was her fault, calls her a slut, and starts a fund to help him pay for a lawyer. (I choose, for the moment, to optimistically think that his wife wasn't in on it.)

Expand full comment

A good christian (indoctrined) woman doesn't divorce, she support her owner whatever the circumstances.

Expand full comment

Tell that to Steven Crowder.

He’s a right wing talking head who loves to be provocative against the left, sometimes by dressing as a woman. He’s the guy in the meme who’s sitting at the table with the sign that has “…change my mind”

His wife is divorcing him and he doesn’t like that she’s allowed to do so. But then there’s videos of him being outright mentally abusive to her.

Expand full comment

Good for her. I'm glad she recognized that it was abuse and that she deserved better.

Expand full comment

So where I heard about this, The Young Turks, talked about how he had actually started the divorce proceedings, moved out and cut her off from the finances shortly after she delivered her twins. So it seems he’s putting on a show regarding how he didn’t want to divorce for his conservative Christian base.

He is also concerned for the safety of his children in regards to letting the news of his divorce go public. But statistically speaking, he is the biggest threat to the safety of his wife and children following a divorce. (The most dangerous time for an abuse victim is right after they leave the relationship). I’m wondering what danger his wife and children are in outside of his abuse.

I saw the video where he was trying to force her, while 8months pregnant, to give their dog medication that she was concerned would adversely affect her and the babies’ health. He refused her use of the vehicle or the ability to even leave the house and kept giving her warnings about overstepping some line knowing what would come next. He never said, but it sounds like there’s some physical violence in their relationship from the way he was speaking to her. The entire video was quite disturbing and hit nearly every abuse red flag.

". . . all 50 states and the District of Columbia have no-fault divorce laws on the books — laws that allow either party to walk away from an unhappy marriage without having to prove abuse, infidelity, or other misconduct in court.

"It was a hard-fought journey to get there. It took more than four decades to end fault-based divorce in America: California was the first state to eliminate it, in 1969"

It is interesting that they want to get rid of no-fault divorce when it was none other than the repukelican Saint Ronnie Raygun who started it.

Expand full comment

"prove abuse, infidelity, or other misconduct"

Without divorce, the only way out of a bad marriage is homicide or suicide. The law should encourage neither, but Republicans have made an art form of promoting the latter.

Hard to imagine considering my memories of that era; Ronbo was quite happy to let the AIDS crisis run rampant because it was at first a "gay disease," but after some consideration, I think you're right. Unless the wife also has gonorrhea, she knew something was up. She may not have known *this*. But she knew he wasn't having sex with her.

Expand full comment

Having gone through dry patches while married - and that was in a *healthy* relationship, which this one probably wasn't - I am skeptical of accusing her of knowing something illegal or immoral was happening just because she and her husband hadn't had sex for a while.

Expand full comment

It's no crime to be naive and clueless, but if this woman had no idea at all that her pious husband was up to something not at all pious, she goes way beyond naive and clueless and firmly into Stupidland.

Expand full comment

Meh, I would guess more into Completely Brainwashed Country rather than Stupidland. Being taught from childhood that a wife is not to question her husband has consequences, one of which can easily be ignoring anything the husband does that doesn't really square with her religion.

Not to say she's per se innocent here, just that considering what she's likely been taught all her life, it's possible she's to some degree a victim here, too. Hard to tell for sure from the article.

Ah Christians. Never a day goes by where their nonsense, evil and sick plights are not unearthed for all to see. And this is the group that preaches their God as the source of their morality and yet, your run of the mill atheist has more integrity and interest for honesty that the vast majority of the religious. Whether it was religion or not that contributed to this at this late stage is irrelevant. What we do know is this does tend to happen with a great frequency amongst those who are sexually repressed like Roman Catholic priests, but even religious fundamentalism with its strict black and white dictates also can contribute to people bursting out like monsters simple because those strictures can be too much and unrealistic. Don't get me wrong i am not blaming religion entirely for this, bad people simply do bad things. But when we see bad people in great numbers and on a daily basis usually doing them with religious backgrounds, it should be cause for raised eyebrows.

Expand full comment

These horrible people are attracted to the unearned and automatic respect and the lack of questioning. That's why there's so many.

But, I'm not convinced sexual repression makes anyone act out with a four-year-old.

Raping a little kid is a special kind of sick (or maybe I mean evil).

May 3, 2023·edited May 3, 2023

Well think of incels for example who suddenly turn to mass killings. That happens with some level of regularity in the US. I often think of the Santa Barbara University one because the killer discusses on YouTube why he was about to go on a rampage, and it was because his friends were getting laid and he wasn't. So, though you may feel that it is not a contributing factor, history says otherwise. Note I am not claiming that it is the only reason, but it is one metric in a long list of reasons why people lash out. Being an incel is one reason, forced repression may be another. They are not the only reasons, nor even the main reasons, but they are reasons.

Pedophiles go where the kids are. I have little to no use for the clergy, and none what so ever for missionaries. They are a cancer. Pedophile members of the clergy have been allowed to hide behind their clerical collars and Bibles for far to long.

The sexual abuse of a 4-year-old simply wasn't enough for this man of God. He just had to throw an STD into the mix.

That thing about "There is no situation so bad that cannot be made infinitely worse by religion" rings true once more. Webb should spend the rest of his life behind bars.

I know Hemant obsesses about this perhaps a little too much, but it is totally depressing. Every week we get something like this about people who essentially ruin kids' lives. And yet after the fuss and maybe some punishment which isn't always a given, the perps' lives tend to go on much the same as ever, because of course God has forgiven them. I think I'll just go and bury my head in the sand for a while. See you all later.
