"...announce utter and complete ignorance as to the function of their office, and total disregard for the services they are expected to perform as public representatives."

In other words, Republicans.

Richard S. Russell's avatar

Well, to be fair, not all Republicans are theocrats, and some Democrats are. But, as Damon Runyon observed, “The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but that’s the way to bet!”

Straw's avatar

I am certain you are correct.

Matri's avatar

The Republican Party. Violating basic human rights since 1964. Or thereabouts.

Black Hole and DM mourner's avatar

If one day a bill of this kind pass, everything not christian or not the right flavor of christianity can be considered satanic too. The proof is in the centuries of bloodshed everywhere christians had a good (stronghold?).

Semi OT about republicons' stupidity : https://youtu.be/KaFJDljqtdc?si=je3Snjn3aIP1Jd1l

Sean's avatar

At the moment, they're allied. However, if christians managed to push out all other religions, they must have an enemy. They would turn on each other and eat each other alive.

Straw's avatar

That's nothing new.

Bagen Onuts's avatar

Like them mary worshiping kkkatlik heathens.

Bill Lawrence's avatar

"Not the right flavor of Christianity" is precisely the reason smaller Christian denominations begged Jefferson to include the separation of church and state in the Constitution.

Matri's avatar

The multiple Crusades weren't about having picnics and doing each others' hair, despite what the kristianists insist.

Arizona is ranked 45th in Education. It shows.

Tinker's avatar

Hey we were 49th just a few years ago! Progress? I guess?

Black Hole and DM mourner's avatar

Progress or some states were jealous of your place and took it ?

NOGODZ20's avatar

Alaska saw that 49th was open and shouted DIBSIES!

Yep, many of the state senators probably went to ASU. This might just be a fly in Hoffman's proposal.

> "Titled the “Reject Escalating Satanism by Preserving Essential Core Traditions (RESPECT) Act,” "

I wonder how much time they spent coming up with that? Time that would have been better spent studying constitutional law.

AlbertCamus's avatar

Aretha Franklin would not appreciate this.

Black Hole and DM mourner's avatar

This acronym seems to come right from Harry Potter. Ironic when this kind of christians would, and have, burned them.

oraxx's avatar

I knew before reading the article that it had to be a Republican who came up with this. A Republican who obviously has no idea what's contained in the Constitution. Our secular government cannot choose one religion over another, and his proposal is a gross violation of the First Amendment. Evidently, his own arguments are so weak the best he can come up with to defend them is attempting to silence other points of view.

SeekingReason's avatar

It’s best to beat them at their own game. I am religion-free and find it outrageous that catering to religion has brought us to this. But, I would love to see someone suggest we give a turn for public display to one religion at a time. Start with the Muslims, bow to Allah before high school football games, suddenly rt wing christians would demand that we ban religious rites at these games. This is just tongue in cheek - but any way to turn the tables and force them to back off is a success in my eyes.

Black Hole and DM mourner's avatar

I would pay to see that. Religion should stay in the private sphere.

oraxx's avatar

Indeed. They expect privilege. Thwart them at every turn.

Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Sikhs, and every other minority religious group with members in the US-of-A, please take note of the majority religion attempting to outlaw a fellow religious minority.

Or, if you would prefer not to take note, take a 𝘯𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 instead- the leopards will be with you shortly.

CozmoTheMagician's avatar

Oh, just had another thought. Consider that greek/roman mythology/religion has been called 'satanic' and the FUCKING ARIZONA STATE CAPITOL BUILDING is in the style of a classic temple, would not THEIR OWN FUCKING CAPITOL be a 'satanic display'. donchafuckingthink!

Can we all show up with demolishing equipment and say we just trying to help uphold the fine moral legal traditions of AZ?

ericc's avatar

Please don't remind them. Last thing we need is American evangelicals taking a page from the taliban and blasting away at classical art, archetecture, or archaeological sites because they've decided its blasphemous.

CozmoTheMagician's avatar

Meh , if any of them are lurking here I doubt they would even understand my comment..

Whitney's avatar

Most folks aren't going to recognize the historical temples the building is intended to resemble: the 'angel' on top doesn't help. If anything it's going to look very much like a LDS temple to them.

I always heard that the blindness came from "too much". I'm 76 and barely need reading glasses. Apparently "quite a lot" is not "too much". My experimental results indicate that you should enjoy yourself. 🤗

NOGODZ20's avatar

That's definitely no angel. It's Nike. The Winged Goddess of Victory.

AZ has the representation of a pagan goddess at its capitol. 😀

I was wondering how Hoffmann could still be a senator given he’s a fake elector. Still under investigation as far as I can tell. Trying to get at least one screwball law passed before he’s indicted or as Mad Marge would say indickted.

Bagen Onuts's avatar

Bubba will indickt him.

Val Uptuous NotAgain's avatar

Perhaps the gentleman should be removed from office for participating in an insurrection, it is clear he is not capable of doing the job he was elected to hold because he’s actively working against the constitution he swore to uphold.

Of course we have a party that has been working to destroy the constitution for generations now. It only recently that their efforts are becoming effective. Decades of cutting and stabbing may not do much harm at first, but they’re making headway now. Death by a million cuts has been the GOP platform for as long as I’ve been alive, probably longer. So it’s no surprise that they’re finding success now.

Zizzer-Zazzer-Zuzz's avatar

It wasn't an insurrection, it was a lovely picnic. Everyone was going into the building to invite the members of congress. Trump would have been there himself, but he heard they were short of hamberders, so he went to go pick some up.

ericc's avatar

But you forgot the other half of the explanation. It was a lovely picnic for the House members with all the best intentions by conservative patriots AND it was a deep state liberal plot using bought FBI agents in a false flag operation in which no conservative patriots were actually involved.

Your honor, my client has an alibi for the time in question. AND he shot in self-defense...

Val Uptuous NotAgain's avatar

Except this guy’s part was not the violence at the capital, it was the actual attempt to change the outcome of the election by being a fake elector in n place of the real electors. The violence at the capital was a cover for him to actually commit the coup.

CozmoTheMagician's avatar

For any of you gamer's ... I have a short vid showing an INSANELY easy and OP build for Baldur's Gate

3. A cleric turned Moon worshiping Druid O_o. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvbBvMsbowE )

So me wearing a t-shirt w/a clip of my character blasting away with moonbeams could get me in trouble in AZ for 'being satanic'.

The way this stupid bill is written it seems to ban ANY display of 'satanic' stuff on PUBLIC PROPERTY even by MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC. So just wearing a fucking t-shirt with anything that can be considered 'satanic' would land you in trouble

Val Uptuous NotAgain's avatar

These are folks who believe you only have rights in this country if you are Christian. He might not have said it out loud in those words, but others have and he’s playing all the games those who’ve said it played.

Straw's avatar

I believe this stupid bill is written, on purpose, so that wearing the "wrong" image or words, will land you in trouble.

Joan the Dork's avatar

Of course it's Satanic, it's D&D! Don't you read your Chick Tracts?! /s

xenubarb's avatar

These bible-thumping Republicans are edging into the realm of farce. Anyone with any understanding of our laws knows this is unconstitutional, not to mention ignorant. And people ignorant of the basic laws of the land shouldn't be in charge of anything.

Dee Martinez's avatar

These bills and proposals are such a waste of taxpayer time and money. These people need to just do their duties and stop with the theatrics.

Matri's avatar

Theatrics is all they have. You don't really think they have actual qualifications, do you?

Maltnothops's avatar

I wonder if the idiot has noticed that The Satanic Temple’s displays don’t represent or honor Satan.

Matri's avatar

Bold of you to assume they looked past the name before making snap judgements.

Daniel Rotter's avatar

That isn't really relevant in the context of the legislation (i.e., even if The Satanic Temple's displays DO explicitly honor Satan, his bill is still unconstitutional. You can't legally single out solely one group/religion like it does).

Maltnothops's avatar

You are correct, of course. Nonetheless, it cracks me up that this idiot’s bill could be so easily circumvented by merely observing that TST isn’t…..Satanic.

Matri's avatar

Like they care about petty issues like that.
