I hate these tortured acronym names of stupid bills.

Here’s a bill name for you, you stupid twits: Freedom Undermines Captive Knowledge Of Fascist Fools.

The word you're looking for is: backronym.

"...announce utter and complete ignorance as to the function of their office, and total disregard for the services they are expected to perform as public representatives."

In other words, Republicans.

Expand full comment

Well, to be fair, not all Republicans are theocrats, and some Democrats are. But, as Damon Runyon observed, “The race is not always to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, but that’s the way to bet!”

I am certain you are correct.

The Republican Party. Violating basic human rights since 1964. Or thereabouts.

Claiming this bill has no chance of passing because it is blatantly unconstitutional is a false argument. This bill could pass, be contested, and find its way to the so-called Supreme Court. THIS court does not rely on the constitution to make decisions, they rely on their narrow interpretation of the Christian Bible.

Expand full comment

Exactly Tom. THAT is one of many reasons, no matter what, Biden must be elected to move forward. We have to have an overwhelming win to get rid of the Fascists in office.

Expand full comment

We should all, to the extent possible, contribute to Democrats running in key states...and state legislatures, which are at the very least just as important. If we have a Republican President (heaven forfend), then having Democratic majorities in Congress is essential. Same for state legislatures, if only to safeguard our elections!

Expand full comment

Especially since the Republican President would very likely be the proudly incompetent Trump.

Expand full comment

Trump is on trial or will be, for many of the crimes he has committed. If elected, he can direct the DOJ to drop all charges. He can also have all charges dropped for those insurrectionists who have not been convicted and pardon those who have. This could lead to Proud Boys and other white supremacists being elected to state and federal offices. IT CAN HAPPEN HERE!!! It won’t happen here if liberals and conservatives who value America’s democracy get out and vote for Biden.

Expand full comment

Can he order the DOJ to have states charges dropped ?

Expand full comment

Technically no, as Bagen Onuts states, but once he becomes the dictator he’s threatening, all bets are off. He will be able to do whatever he wants. Even if it’s eliminating Democratic governors and replacing them with sycophants as he’s already threatened to do with every other government organization. He’s already trashed the norms of public office, he’s threatened to become a dictator, he will do as he wants.

Expand full comment

He's already stated he would be a dictator on day one. And the Republican Party cheered.

No.

I think about this almost every day. And even though I live on an other continent I am a big bit scared.

You are right to be scared. What goes on here affects everyone, which is why much of the world pays attention--sadly, moreso than many Americans living here.

If one day a bill of this kind pass, everything not christian or not the right flavor of christianity can be considered satanic too. The proof is in the centuries of bloodshed everywhere christians had a good (stronghold?).

At the moment, they're allied. However, if christians managed to push out all other religions, they must have an enemy. They would turn on each other and eat each other alive.

"Not the right flavor of Christianity" is precisely the reason smaller Christian denominations begged Jefferson to include the separation of church and state in the Constitution.

I wonder how much time they spent coming up with that? Time that would have been better spent studying constitutional law.

Aretha Franklin would not appreciate this.

Expand full comment

This acronym seems to come right from Harry Potter. Ironic when this kind of christians would, and have, burned them.

Expand full comment

I knew before reading the article that it had to be a Republican who came up with this. A Republican who obviously has no idea what's contained in the Constitution. Our secular government cannot choose one religion over another, and his proposal is a gross violation of the First Amendment. Evidently, his own arguments are so weak the best he can come up with to defend them is attempting to silence other points of view.

Expand full comment

It’s best to beat them at their own game. I am religion-free and find it outrageous that catering to religion has brought us to this. But, I would love to see someone suggest we give a turn for public display to one religion at a time. Start with the Muslims, bow to Allah before high school football games, suddenly rt wing christians would demand that we ban religious rites at these games. This is just tongue in cheek - but any way to turn the tables and force them to back off is a success in my eyes.

I would pay to see that. Religion should stay in the private sphere.

Indeed. They expect privilege. Thwart them at every turn.

Oh, just had another thought. Consider that greek/roman mythology/religion has been called 'satanic' and the FUCKING ARIZONA STATE CAPITOL BUILDING is in the style of a classic temple, would not THEIR OWN FUCKING CAPITOL be a 'satanic display'. donchafuckingthink!

Can we all show up with demolishing equipment and say we just trying to help uphold the fine moral legal traditions of AZ?

Most folks aren't going to recognize the historical temples the building is intended to resemble: the 'angel' on top doesn't help. If anything it's going to look very much like a LDS temple to them.

Perhaps the gentleman should be removed from office for participating in an insurrection, it is clear he is not capable of doing the job he was elected to hold because he’s actively working against the constitution he swore to uphold.

Of course we have a party that has been working to destroy the constitution for generations now. It only recently that their efforts are becoming effective. Decades of cutting and stabbing may not do much harm at first, but they’re making headway now. Death by a million cuts has been the GOP platform for as long as I’ve been alive, probably longer. So it’s no surprise that they’re finding success now.

It wasn't an insurrection, it was a lovely picnic. Everyone was going into the building to invite the members of congress. Trump would have been there himself, but he heard they were short of hamberders, so he went to go pick some up.

But you forgot the other half of the explanation. It was a lovely picnic for the House members with all the best intentions by conservative patriots AND it was a deep state liberal plot using bought FBI agents in a false flag operation in which no conservative patriots were actually involved.

Your honor, my client has an alibi for the time in question. AND he shot in self-defense...

Except this guy’s part was not the violence at the capital, it was the actual attempt to change the outcome of the election by being a fake elector in n place of the real electors. The violence at the capital was a cover for him to actually commit the coup.

The way this stupid bill is written it seems to ban ANY display of 'satanic' stuff on PUBLIC PROPERTY even by MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC. So just wearing a fucking t-shirt with anything that can be considered 'satanic' would land you in trouble
