So Wheaton is a non-profit school? Any institution that is not for profit, and dabbles in politics, should lose that status immediately, INCLUDING CHURCHES. Unfortunately, even in previous administrations no one has taken the non-profit issue to heart. And under this admin, there is NO ONE who would monitor this activity. Time to tax churches and colleges like Wheaton. Pass that tax money to the folks who need it most.
That was the whole reason the Heritage Foundation started it all back in the 70s! Check out Carter biographer Randall Balmer's 2014 Politico article called The Real Origins of the Religious Right.
I have read Ballmer before. I once pointed out all this history to a forced birther who was obviously ignorant of it. He kept disputing it. I kept citing article after article. He kept saying rejecting the evidence on the basis of… nothing. We still interact occasionally online and he continues to reject evidence on the basis if nothing. It is fascinating seeing him making specious arguments over and over even 4-5 people point out his illogical arguments.
That was my experience on the TBT forums. I would call out a conservative's lie(s) and cite the source to prove it was a lie, crickets. Then the next day they would repeat the same lie all over again.
Yeah, as if they can usurp their (supposed) deity's power or something, that's a weird thing to say to a total stranger. To me, your religion is your private business, and like your genitals, they should stay in your pants in public.
Don't restrict your aversion to just crucifixes, they are only worn by Catholics. Protestants wear the bare cross as their symbol of capital punishment,

Put to a vote of the American people, no part of Project 2025 would ever be voted into law. Never the less, the Christo-Fascist right has convinced themselves they can impose this monstrosity on the American people with a happy ending. Nothing could be further from the truth. I keep waiting for the dam to burst one day and American conservatives will finally wake up to how badly they have been had.
That dam may never burst. They have been conditioned to believe fantasies for so long, especially persecution fantasies, that all of the very real harm they will experience from their masters will be chalked up to Satan and the evil others persecuting them, somehow.
I always like the references to Jesus Christ and his kingdom. It tells me a good deal about the people using the terms. And what it tells me is that it is inherently political, else why do you need kings and kingdoms?
When religious people talk about establishing the kingdom of Jesus on earth, what they really mean is that Jesus will continue to remain invisible, and real people who claim to speak for Jesus will have power over everyone, whether they believe in Jesus or not.
It also tells me that the nature of the organization they promote is AUTHORITARIAN, with dictates coming down from on high and NO REGARD FOR INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS.
And they'll force those "insufficiently devout" and non-believers into kowtowing. I strongly suspect it will be much like the fundamentalist Muslims. Or worse. The history of Christianity is not promising.
Apparently, a lot of Star Trek fans didn't much care for Wesley Crusher. It's sad. All Wil ever wanted was for people to...and I quote..."Stand By Me."
"Wesley Crusher" was, IMHO, a poorly conceived character, who rarely if ever brought anything of real value to TNG. The closest he came to that is when Picard read him the Riot Act for the stunt he and the rest of his team pulled at the Academy.
Other than that? The series does just fine without him.
The point of the character was really to show that *Beverly* Crusher was perfectly capable of being a high performing career woman and a good single mother at the same time.
Back in the early '90s, that was a useful message to put on screen. Now, in 2025, if teens and young adults watching it completely miss that message because 'of course single working women can be good mothers why does that even need to be said?' then...Wesley's mission accomplished.
It's a reminder of what women have been through to get their rights, as well as a sotto-voce warning that the current administration could roll a lot of those rights BACK.
Not could, will. This administration is not in favor of women's rights by any means, and it will get worse. This administration will demonstrate why we needed the ERA, and the next few generations will likely pay the price for the failure to get it passed.

Interesting to watch Christianity try so desperately to be relevant when it actually never has been…
OT: We finally got some real snow. 1 1/2 inches so far and still coming down. I had to run into town and my 4x4 truck is in the shop, so I took the car. The roads are about 75% covered but not terrible going straight. The problem was the big curve just before town. I couldn't see the edge of the pavement and dropped two tires onto the shoulder. I got back on the pavement but started fishtailing. 180 degrees later I was facing the wrong way on the other side of the road, stopping just short of the deep ditch. I managed to back up and get going again. The construction crew that was following me gave me a round of applause for saving it. How's your day?
Das Husband and his friend are up in Alaska, looking at the northern lights. Every time they go, they asked me if I want to, and every time I tell them that as much as I’d like to see it, I don’t do winter

Yes...the current state of the religious right is nothing new.
I have read Ballmer before. I once pointed out all this history to a forced birther who was obviously ignorant of it. He kept disputing it. I kept citing article after article. Yep trolls do that, constantly, they just go on and lie again, after you disprove everything they said.
Which is why they accused me of being a troll.
It was such a hot button issue that no one wanted to touch it. If they had, we might not be in the current mess.
So sick of Christians and Catholics imposing their fascist insanity on humanity. I flinch whenever I see a crucifix.
I would think that seeing one would make Jesus flinch as well...

Without much thought only experience, when I see a crucifix, my subconscious registers, be careful they aren’t good people. Don’t turn your back.
I often wear my GUILLOTINE necklace, & laugh when they say “ Have a blesed day “ 🤣🤢

Perhaps Franklin Graham's opinion of his parents can be understood better by what he does not say.
"This is the school my father Billy Graham and mother attended."
FG, your mother also has a name; use it.
Chattel? Brood Mare? Farrowing Sow? Or are they still pretending that they cherish women?
Ofbilly graham.
Evidently.

I never cared for William F. Buckley, but he did at least try to marginalize the real nut jobs.
Buckley actually bothered to THINK about the issues he opined on. Conservatives THESE days? Not so much.
Buckley was a conservative who wanted to govern. Conservatives these days want to rule. A distinction that is lost on their base.
That dam may never burst. They have been conditioned to believe fantasies for so long, especially persecution fantasies, that all of the very real harm they will experience from their masters will be chalked up to Satan and the evil others persecuting them, somehow.
If their Social Security checks don't show up or Medicare quits paying for their healthcare, there will be riots.
A lot of MAGA are seniors on SS and NRA members. Just sayin'.
It has before, but that was before six giant, conservative corporations controlled 90% of this country's media.
It will eventually, human nature being what it is. It may not happen in our lifetimes, but it will happen.

How about Nightfall for this coming era of ignorance and stupidity?
They keep using those words. It doesn’t mean what they think it means.
And they'll force those "insufficiently devout" and non-believers into kowtowing. I strongly suspect it will be much like the fundamentalist Muslims. Or worse. The history of Christianity is not promising.
It is promising. Unfortunately, what they’re promising is nothing any same person would want.
When did Wil Wheaton start a college?
He had to do something after God took his starship.

It's kind of sad the fans didn't like the character because Wil is such a good man. He had no control over what the writers did to him.

Can you get me Boo Berry cereal at other times than Halloween now that you are a ghost?
I'm just a rookie. You have to be a seasoned vet to pull that off.
There's a werewolf cereal as well. I found it once. It was pretty good as I recall.

Over here in Marion I'm looking at about 5" of fluffy, and it's still coming down gently.
Edit: By Thursday morning we ended up with a bit over 9" (23 cm, 0.134328 smoot).

Glad to hear it.
At 3:30 pm it is 80°/27° with a feels like of 84°/29°.

Apparently not. Ziggy (Alexa's alter ego) just told me the low tonight will be 37F

I’m hearing an auctioneer asking how much for this “fine” nation…needs some work, the foundation is cracking, but it comes complete with serfs! 🙄
So much for getting intel from our allies.
Fake news all around.
And another huge national security hole is opened.
It was already opened the moment Trump “won” the election last November.
This is just patching it with a single layer of two-ply toilet paper.
