I mean seriously: the student DID NOT FULFILL the assignment as it was given to her. Instead, she threw out a bunch of biblical word salad which did not address the topic in the slightest, and she was given the grade she deserved. That Mel is being punished for HER lack of performance is among the greater ignominies I have ever been aware of.
I think that maybe Mel should get some support here – Freedom From Religion Foundation, American Atheists, Americans United, and/or maybe American Humanist Association – and let those Sooners know that they have made a MASSIVE MISTAKE.
If Fulnecky had pulled a stunt like this in an engineering class, she would have been thrown out on her ear. Stipulated that engineering is WAY more exact than psychology (which makes psychology just that much more difficult!), but the rules still apply: do your work, SHOW your work, or go home. Samantha didn't do that. Instead, she played politics and won because Governor Stitt loves him some JEEEZUS.
But apparently, neither of them care much about actual learning.
I went to Catholic Parish School from K5 to 12th grade. Had I gave back an essay like this, I would have received the same grade. And had I tried to cry Religious discrimination, the teacher would have laughed in my face. I have muslim friends who wear the hijab and they have school age kids. Those kids better not try this trick, or their Mamas will have words with them. Haitian kids... they had better rib fast. Latinos kids, same thing. The University of Oklahoma is doing a massive disservice to their students by allowing crap like this. That they don't recognize this at all is an even greater failure.
And yet again a Christian receives special treatment while at the same time calling themselves the most persecuted people on the planet. It's sickening.
