Just a quick note here before I have to dash. I'm pleased to know that the FFRF and American Atheists have resolved this issue. There's enough infighting among theists as it is, and we don't need nonbelievers adding to the confusion, never mind dividing our forces.

Good news all around.

It looks to me like there never was any actual infighting. They both needed a position to argue about to get it in front of a judge to so it could be handled professionally.

OT- Chump gets told off by one of his own appointees, again: https://apnews.com/article/trump-ap-media-court-white-house-events-access-f346a0efe87c1dec4d6f90e6041abd09

A federal judge, who was placed on the bench during Cheetolini's first term, ruled that the President can't in fact turn away journalists because they refuse to go along with his petty acts of performative nationalism, and ordered the administration to restore the AP's access to the White House press pool. Safe money says the toddler-in-chief replies "nuh-uh!" and appeals the ruling, but for now it's more ketchup stains on the walls for the poor cleaning staff at the White House.

OT: I was messing around with Copilot (my OS AI) and accidently got a summary of today's FA article. The last paragraph was this:

"A Rich, Playful Community Culture: Beyond the serious legal issues, the comment thread is a lively mix of humor, wit, and intellectual banter. Many participants play with language and even use puns involving periodic table elements (a nod to topics like “401K” and “Special K”) to lighten the mood. This blend of thoughtful critique and playful repartee reflects the unique character of the community behind the website."

Good job everyone!

A Will in Texas does not have to be notarized, nor is that sufficient to make it legal. Handwritten wills are legal as is, but a typed will needs the signatures of two parties that do not stand to benefit from the will.

Wow. Texas got to be Texas, I guess. 🤦‍♂️

Expand full comment
cdbunch's avatar

Personally, a rational system in my mind is typed or handwritten, signing in the presence of an uninvolved notary should be all that is required. Notarization is not usually expensive. (I have no idea who to get to witness my will, though I'm not sure I want to write one right now since I hope to leave Texas, if not the U.S., this year.)

Honestly, I'm surprised it took this long for Europe and the rest of the world to see they can't trust the USA to be an equal partner. The writing has been on the wall since St. Reagan was elected. Yes, we had Clinton and Obama, but it was clear that a large portion on the Republican party base was getting more and more radical. When Trump won the first time, that was the big, screaming, blinking red neon sign that the US lost their marbles. I had hoped that the rest of the world would start building new trade and political alliances, working around the US until we either completely imploses or regained our sanity.

Honestly, I was really hoping that Germany would pick up the mantle of "Leader Of The Free World" (I really liked Angela Merkle), but now France is positioning themselves to be next.

… Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) did a media tour blasting Trump's tariffs: "I can't support a fallacy that is going to make us lose our wealth. I have a retirement account too and I think tariffs is going to decimate it. The whole debate is so fundamentally backwards and upside down. It's based on a fallacy, and the fallacy is this: that somehow in a trade, someone must lose. That somehow when you trade with someone, someone is taking advantage of you.
