It is never the job of our secular government to backstop anyone's religion. The evangelicals know they're losing the long game and they're desperate to have government step in and do exactly that. No matter how unconstitutional it may be. On a broader sense, I feel that as long as a significant share of the human race continues to view faith as a virtue the human race has little chance of long-term survival. Trump is the most amoral President in our history, and he's playing the preachers for the fools they are.
It astonishes me how long it is taken for people to cop a clue as to just how bad Trump is. Most of us knew about it 10 years ago, and I wrote about it extensively on Atheist Nexus.
The saddest part of all this is how much he continues to play to people's bigotry and how much they continue to eat it up.
Top 250 "victories" for people of (Republican party approved) faith, padded with nearly all bullshit? Yeah, that tracks. Make the base feel good about their excessive privilege, just in time for the midterms. I'm with Hemant on this: the timing of the release of this self congratulating list of Christian Fucking Privilege advancement is designed to counter the basement level approval ratings of Dumpsterfire. They know they are heading into a massive blue wave. Texas, just 2 years ago was R+12. The state is now in play for Democrats.
They know they will probably lose. If they can get all the bigots out to vote, they have a chance at a smaller margin to lose by.
I suspect that many evangelicals will eat this up because like Barton, Trump tells them the lies they like to hear. They don't realize how they will be in the dumpster once Trump is gone. They've lost their conscience and credibility with the public.

So the Trump administration is lying their asses off about their accomplishments regarding religion while in office. Must be a day that ends in "Y." What this is more than anything else is Donald Trump kissing up to the one portion of his base that will probably never give him up: radical right Evangelical Christians. Considering Trump's failing approval numbers, it's probably the only group that still reliably stands behind him.
As for the list, Trump can yap about it all he wants. I seriously doubt it's going to help him come November.
