Imagine being such a horrible person that 176 graduates of your former Christian college sign an open letter opposing your candidacy for United States Congress.
The candidate who fits that description is North Carolina’s 25-year-old Madison Cawthorn, a shameless MAGA cultist who appears to be heading toward a seat in the U.S. House. Cawthorn attended Patrick Henry College for a single semester before dropping out with near-failing grades, but boy, what a semester it was. According to the open letter, authored by 10 of his former classmates and signed by 166 others, Cawthorn is a sexual predator (with allegations from multiple women), a vandal, and a liar. The letter has merit and should be damning to his campaign, but Cawthorn didn’t confront the allegations and instead shared his own college endorsements from… six of his former classmates. Two of the six work for him.You know, since she’s confirmed…
Speaking of which, this is as good a breakdown as I’ve seen on TV about why Democrats should expand the courts if they get the opportunity: Because Republicans do it All. The. Time.
On CNN, John Avlon breaks down the unprecedented attacks on our courts by the Republicans, including blocking an unprecedented number of Obama nominees and the "11 mostly GOP-led attempts to pack state courts in recent year," including expanding severalRefusing to balance the courts would mean a death knell for church/state separation issues… and so much more.
Texas megachurch pastor Rickie Rush is accused of sexual and physical abuse, with allegations going back as far as the early ‘90s. Victims are breaking their silence decades later as others come forward.
Among the claims, Rush is also accused of viciously beating children with paddles, sometimes until they’d black out or bleed. Rush intimidated his victims into keeping his actions a secret by telling them “Satan would plant things” in their minds and they shouldn’t listen.
It’s unclear if Rush will face prosecution since the incidents may be outside the statute of limitations. Regardless, at least he’ll be put out of work to protect others from being harmed, right?
Nope. He preached at his church, The Inspiring Body of Christ Church, as recently as yesterday.A Florida high school cheerleader has been the target of ongoing harassment by a pastor and his son. The story involves photoshopping images, blackmailing her for actual illicit photos, refusing to cooperate with authorities, and staring at the girl during football games afterwards.
The victim and her family are now pressing charges against the pastor’s family and their church, Skyway Community Chapel, which issued the computer that appears to have been used in all this. There’s news about a mystical belief that doesn’t involve people being hurt! Thousands of witches collectively casted a “binding spell” on Donald Trump over the weekend.
Anyone who watched ‘90s cult classic The Craft knows that “binding” someone prevents them from doing harm to others. Despite the witches making this well-meaning gesture every year, the harm Trump has left in his wake is evidence that Wiccan magic is good for nothing more than freaking out conservative Christians.
Remember the “well-known” pastor who peed on a woman during a flight? We finally know who it is! Definitely not the person I was thinking of. Whoops.
As if school staff members don’t have enough to juggle in the middle of a pandemic, we’ve got Christian parents crying persecution because their kid can’t wear an offensive bigoted t-shirt to school. (The tweet below is old, but the family has now filed a lawsuit against the district.)
We finally have some confirmation on what the hell Donald Trump is.
No, not species. His religious denomination.“Though I was confirmed at a Presbyterian church as a child, I now consider myself to be a non-denominational Christian,” Trump, who has repeatedly identified as a Presbyterian in the past, said in a written response to Religion News Service.
I guess that’s convenient if you have to lie about being something but need to dodge specifics.
We’ll give a shiny quarter to any reporter who asks Trump to describe the difference(s) between Presbyterians and Methodists. We’re trying this out today: We’ve opened our comment section to all subscribers, so please tell us what’s on your mind!
