And the devil took them up to a high mountain and showed them the kingdoms of the world. And the devil said, "Behold, all of this I will give to you, if-"

And the white Evangelicals said, "Hail, Satan!" and bowed low.

And the devil looked confused and said, "Really? That fast? Didn't even let me finish...wow, you guys are assholes."

She’s a “common-sense” Republican. I know what that is code for.

Once it was common sense that the Earth was flat and that the sun, planets and stars revolved around the Earth. It was common sense that seizures were a sign of demonic possession and exorcism was the only cure, that severe headaches were caused by bad spirits in our heads and the medicine man simply had to knock a hole in our head with a sharp rock to let them out. (doh!) It was once common sense that white Christian property owners should be in charge of everyone else because they were anointed by the Lord and you weren't. It's just common sense that the junk between your legs determines your purpose in life, what you are capable of being and how you think. It's common sense that men should have ownership of women's reproductive systems and any children they birth. It's common sense that only men and women should be allowed to marry and the man should always be in charge. She's got common sense all right. Lot's of it.

Well, it is, alas, “common”. 😑

Funny how “taken out of context” always means “we removed several thousand hours of video before voters could hear the context themselves.”

Troublesh00ter's avatar

"Taken out of context" too often means: "You got me dead to rights and I DON'T LIKE THAT!" [pout!!! 😭]

Elise's avatar

As if bigotry, misogyny, homophobia and transphobia actually have an appropriate context anywhere?

These are the sorts of batshit crazies we try to keep away from power here in Washington. Just seeing R next to a name should be enough of a warning to any rational Washingtonian.

Daniel Rotter's avatar

Lots of communist cells, though, in Gig Harbor and Port Orchard, so the "crazy" pendulum can swing too far to the other side, as well./s

She doen't mention Trump now. Just like so many of her fellow divisive Republicans are now doing (scrubbing any mention of the guy they all supported until the cost became too steep for them).

They don't seem to realize we can still see the cheeto dust on their lips.

Really, Katy? Based on the clips that are surfacing, to do that you would be one of the extremely rare Republicans that would set aside your beliefs when they conflict with the constitutional rights of others. But the fact that you used religious liberty instead of religious freedom tells me that you are just a garden variety MAGA Republican who will only uphold the rights of those who agree with you. Religious "liberty" has been a dog whistle for Christian supremacy for almost half a century now. Right wing assholes have been using that phrase to push back against their loss of privilege for so long that just the use of it shows all of us who you really support.

I support 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲'𝘀 right to worship or not as they wish, to believe or not as they wish, and to think for themselves without interference from government busybodies like you. I support preventing religious dogma from being written into law.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

It's getting so that the qualifications for running for office as a Republican MUST include being a hypocritical bastard. Current evidence, including Ms. Cornell, tend to support this hypothesis!

Joe King's avatar

She's not a hypocrite if "all the people in our district" means all the people she acknowledges as being people. You know, cis-het white Christians.

"The enemy has worked so hard to destroy marriage."

That's real rich, coming from the same crowd whose political messiah has been divorced twice.

wreck's avatar

And cheated on his wives who knows how many times. Sometimes with underage girls.

NOGODZ20's avatar

Hey, Christians...

What does it take to penetrate your thick skulls that your religion didn't invent marriage and doesn't own it?

"As Tom began removing videos from YouTube, he must have forgotten that his church also posts sermons on the less-popular Vimeo, and he forgot to take the videos down from that site."

So he's a devious asshole, but also really fucking incompetent. The tRumplican Party in a nutshell.

Brianna Amore's avatar

Another wolf in sheep's clothing, of course. And her sermons prove that no matter what she claims, she's just another batshit crazy Christofascist who is willing to say anything to get into power so she can jam her religion down other people's throats.

The fools who advocate breaking down the barriers between church and state always seem to operate under the assumption it will be their tribe in charge and calling the shots for everyone else. They are also delusional enough to think everyone would passively submit to their rule. They should be imagining the Christian tribe they dislike most having control over their lives because that would definitely be someone's reality. If you want to see what genuine persecution looks like . . . hand power to the preachers.

The Danbury Baptists praised Jefferson for his wall of separation because they didn’t like having to pay tribute to the Congregationalists of Connecticut.

Actually, sometimes the internet DOES forget (or more like it, gets lobotomized by scared users!), but downloads may be forever! 😁

I was referencing a very old meme, that used to be more accurate when sites like internetarchive and waybackmachine were more active. But you are correct.

Hubby seems to have trouble forming complete sentences. That'll happen when you're trying to cover up something and failing at it with the voting public. A voting public that is sick to death of the Trump regime and all who are part of it.

Joe King's avatar

Looks like preacher cadence to me. Jerk can't help himself. He's going to shift to that mode whenever he talks to the public.

Katy Cornell and her hubby need to learn a lesson: even if the internet ISN'T forever (a subject for another time), people's memories may continue to persist, especially when the topic of some internet content is controversial and/or problematic. Claiming to want to end division and find solutions when one's personal online video content seems determined to create division and frustrate solutions is NOT a good look, Katy. Oh, and did no one tell you about the practice of reposting those same videos? They DIDN'T?

The internet may not be forever ... but you may be forever chasing all those reposts down!
