OnlySky, but I rather liked Pale Blue Dot.

Was out at the Museum of Flight today. Saw Carl Sagan stickers. I kid you not. :)

So I suppose any minute now we can expect him to fully develop his conscience, realize what a parasite he had to have been on society to actually become a billionaire in the first place, and donate 90% or more of his wealth toBWAhahahahahaha nope! Damn, I *almost* got through that sentence with a straight face. Maybe next time.

*edit- No, I don't consider waiting until he dies to make the donation to be the same thing. "Maybe, someday I'll do the right thing" just doesn't cut the mustard. He doesn't need the money *now,* either.

Val Uptuous NotAgain's avatar

Well, the pledge was to give away the money before he dies. Not when he dies. That is why he made the donation for the kids trying to leave Mormonism and BYU now.

It is still sick that he can be a billionaire in this world, you know he got that money from exploitation of vulnerable people.

I’m glad he left the LDS church with a big showy bang rather than just slinking away, though.

First of all, the children are not confused, you’re just a bigot. And bigots are making life miserable for children of all stripes.

Second, being Mormon doesn’t make anything in life easier and is known to be dangerous for children via inappropriate sexual conduct by adult leadership.

Third, Mormons do not have remotely close to accurate answers for any of life’s questions.

Fourth, this article is nearly two years old. Whatever you are trying to do is futile.

Look, if he was dying, he wouldn't bother to carve "Aaargh." He'd just say it.

That's what's carved in the rock.

Perhaps he was dictating it.

Larry Parker, ex-Mormon here. No, the church's own doctrine states that every deceased person is free to either accept or reject the ordinances in the "hereafter" .

Expand full comment
Val Uptuous NotAgain's avatar

Tell that to the folks trying to baptize the Holocaust victims posthumously. I’m glad you’ve crossed over to the dark side, but we all know how little the Mormon people really know about the workings of the church. It’s part of the whole scandal and what this guy even included in the letter. So I don’t generally trust Mormons to be correct about their church’s dealings. It isn’t personal, Anthony. I just know how successful the church is keeping their flock in the dark.

So is he now a religious "none", or has he joined a different church? I agree with him totally, but I think that it's not just Mormonism that causes active harm in the world, it's Organized Religion in general and Fundamentalist religion most specifically. It would take trillions to undo the harm caused by Christianity alone.

I was going to post this tomorrow, but since a few people are around:

OT - Xmas cartoons have gone X-rated.

I watched Santa Inc. e04 tonight and there was a catholic pedophile joke in it.

In e03 there was a gay sex scene with full frontal and full backal(?) male nudity. Then later in the episode, the main character's mother was running around buck naked.*

* Not to be confused with George Costanza.

If you think about it, it is severely white- savorist to send 18 and 19 year old sheltered white kids around the world to convert people to Christianity. Especially in third world countries that were already christianized by colonization. I know people who encountered them and they were shocked they knew the Bible. Very civilizing the savages. They should cancel that too.
