So wierd but also true! Give me an Atheist any day! Remember the "Atheist Lady" & her family? She pissed off alot of people but she was right! And she loved America! She also just disappeared one day! ☠️ Nobody ever found her body or any reason for her disappearance in early 80's! Can't remember her name...

The left is godless, eh? You say that like it's a BAD thing. To enumerate all the crap that the god of the bible has laid on humankind would take a book: that same bible. From murdering kids because they taunted a bald man to using a scapegoat to cure a situation created by the being who supposedly created reality, Yahweh is indeed and demonstrably, "The most unpleasant character in all fiction," as Richard Dawkins stated.

Yet the GOP wants to stick with Yahweh and Christianity, a discredited model of morality and behavior, mostly because tradition. And tradition sadly amounts to very little more than peer pressure from dead people.

I can do without that, as I suspect can most if not all the regulars here.

We're entirely capable of living our own lives, on our own terms, with no interference from you or any of your theocratic bedfellows, without the blinders of your superstition, the guilt of your imagined sins, or the burden or fealty to your imaginary friend. We're not troubled by any care or concern about being rewarded or punished in the hereafter, because we've committed ourselves to living good lives in the here and now. We don't need to be threatened or beaten into behaving ourselves, unlike you- and we'd be pleasantly contented with our place in the order of reality... if only you'd kindly fuck off and quit bothering us.

And, while we’re on the subject, maybe they wouldn’t be so chronically behind if they weren’t such shitty witnesses to the faith they proclaim. In the meantime, I guess I’ll just have to be a happy heathen.

I think what you describe is about at least a couple things. Thing One is "The Great Commission," wherein Christians were told to spread the word to the whole world, and as you know, Christians tend to do as they're told [certain exceptions apply!]. Thing Two is their insecurity about their faith. Personally, I think the Christians who cry the loudest are the ones who are the least confident in their beliefs, and they need EVERYONE to agree with them to salve their insecurity. This of course will never happen, and at some level they KNOW this, which makes them all the crazier.

And all the more dangerous.

Expand full comment
Dave Hopkins's avatar

That’s so true. And the type of Christian you are referring to lives in a bubble, often of their own creation, instead of finding out about the world around them. It brings to mind a saying from Mark Twain “travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow mindedness”. For me, that includes the travel outside of the bubbles we feel most comfortable in. Once we step beyond them, we discover a world of possibilities, wonder and welcome.
