Masculine? Has Hegseth taken a good long look at his boss? Does he truly see the definition of masculinity instead of a whiny oversized toddler?

Does he have a mirror? Cause you can say the same for him as well as Trump.

For a guy who lectured generals and admirals about body shape and body hair, Hegseth is definitely one insecure male. And everyone who’s watching understands just how weak he is.

Hegseth is operating from a paradigm that went out of fashion about the same time as the twist did. He belongs at the head of a 21st-century armed forces about as well as Mango Mussolini does.

And his actions are doing serious harm to the readiness of our armed forces.

I was raised by a single mom, and Scouting was a big part of my life (I am an Eagle Scout). For me it was a place where a boy could just be a boy. Learning values like self-reliance, achieving goals, and community service were all a part of it. Later, I was in Explorers (high-school aged boys) which was more inclusive of girls, but mostly we wanted to backpack, canoe, and have car rallies.

I am also a Navy veteran, and saw the early days of integrating women into shipboard life. As with Scouting, there were growing pains but largely that has been dealt with. To my mind, it makes no sense to bar 50% of the population from full participation in either Scouting or the Navy. This has happened in all professions, and it is the right thing to do.

You are making way too much sense Craig...

Val Uptuous NotAgain's avatar

It has begun in all professions and some have embraced it more than others, and then there are plenty that are still fighting against it with all their might. Nowadays, it’s being reversed in a very frightening way. I can also attest that there has not been parity yet. There were steps, but even the most accepting professions still discriminate to some extent.

Because they're not MANLY enough ... because they let GIRLS in ... girls with COOTIES!!!

I have to ask, though: why should Hegseth have ANYTHING AT ALL TO DO with decisions regarding the funding for Scouting America. It's already dying a slow death, and all Petey is doing is adding his own absurd input to a situation he won't change.

Do we know if Kegseth was ever in Scouts? Because it would explain an 𝘢𝘸𝘧𝘶𝘭 lot if he turned out to be the kid who pitched a tantrum over not being able to find the left-handed smoke shifter. Might even be his villain origin story!

OT- Oooooh fuck. https://apnews.com/live/trump-news-updates-11-26-2025

Two WV National Guard members have been shot in DC; initial reporting said they were killed, but it now seems they're alive in critical condition. They shouldn't have been there in the first place. They didn't deserve to be used as stage props in Chump's attempts to start a Civil War,̷ ̷a̷n̷d̷ ̷t̷h̷e̷y̷ ̷d̷e̷f̷i̷n̷i̷t̷e̷l̷y̷ ̷d̷i̷d̷n̷'̷t̷ ̷d̷e̷s̷e̷r̷v̷e̷ ̷t̷o̷ ̷d̷i̷e̷ ̷l̷i̷k̷e̷ ̷t̷h̷i̷s̷. I hope the perp faces justice... but I hope the bastards who sent them on this bullshit mission in the first place face justice some day, too. We're not at war, and they're not toy soldiers- they're human beings. I don't even want to speculate on what comes next. We're all thinking it, and it's fucking ghoulish. They should still be at home with their families, getting ready to stuff their faces tomorrow.

*edit- to reflect current reporting.

The WV governor initially said they had been killed but he was mistaken and walked it back. The story I just looked at said they are in critical condition.

Yup, looks like somebody got ahead of the facts in the race to the microphone. Point still stands, though. There shouldn't have been any troops in that city to 𝘣𝘦 shot. Waste of life to satisfy the urge of one sad little shit of a manbaby to play with humans like they're toys.

As I wrote just yesterday, or possibly today, I have been writing about the scouts for at least 20 years, probably longer. They have had an ongoing sexual molestation problem which they tried to cover up in true Roman Catholic style.

A safe space for boys? 82,000 lawsuits say something differently. And since they didn’t allow either gay scout masters or gay scouts, who is doing all of that molesting? Men identified by the scouts, their churches, their communities, families, wives, children, and above all, by themselves as heterosexual.

Because of course they were.

I worked for the scouts 52 years ago. I lasted about a month before I quit. I did not like the overly militaristic viewpoint of so many of my colleagues. I was a short haired hippie who wore bellbottoms and Hawaiian shirts. They didn’t like that. I also did not like the paranoia regarding gay people. Quite apart from the homophobia itself, I knew there was something definitely wrong with their fears. But the information about molestation was how shall we put it— kept under extreme wraps.

At least the scouts finally did the right thing 10 years ago.

Hegseth and this entire administration feel deeply threatened by independent empowered women. Their attacks on reproductive rights and economic opportunities are all part of a strategic plan. Independent women are not easily controlled and we strongly dislike authoritarians.

I had no idea the Scouts excluded atheists. Probably for the same reasons. I do wonder if this is more of the same damage control rolling out for the big USA is one giant pedophile ring situation we are finding ourselves in.

Scouts are supposed "to do my duty to god and my country," so atheists are pretty much out by definition.

I was never a Scout, and I don't feel as though I missed a thing.

My older son was a scout and earned his Eagle. He was atheist from about the time of his bar mitzvah. I think most of his fellow older scouts were atheist. There was an Eagle Review Board that interviewed Eagle candidates. It was the final hurdle. There were rumors of boys being asked if they believed in god. We practiced with our son how to answer that question by drawing on Jewish tradition. He wasn’t asked, as it happened.

I was a Cub Scout in the 70s. Among the masculine cultivating activities I participated in were decorating a heart and writing a poem to my mommy for Valentine’s Day, painting a Christmas ornament (so weird and ugly that it still finds a place in our tree), writing a letter to President Nixon to tell him how awesome he was, and playing a starring role in a skit about ecology. Unfortunately, I missed the parts where we learned that Girl Scouts were to look purty and bake us some damned cookies, unmasculine non-scouts needed their butts kicked and to hand over their lunch money, and rules were for suckers not for warriors.

Got my draft notice in 1970. During introduction at basic training, we were asked if anybody had been in the Boy Scouts. Those individuals were made squad leaders and were fast tracked to promotions. They already had "training" in field craft, marching, uniforms, etc.
