Still no members with an (R) behind their name. Can it be that republicans oppose reason based policies?

Troublesh00ter's avatar

You're sorta left with that impression, aren't ya? 😝

Val Uptuous NotAgain's avatar

You’re not allowed to be a Republican if you use reason and don’t have some skeletons in your closet.

This would have been my very comment if Hemant hadn't waited until I stepped away from the keyboard to go take care of business to post this article.

I noticed that as well.

Also, it's looks like it's almost 50% women.

There also appears to be some - sorry gotta drop the "D" bomb - diversity.

I'm surprised they haven't tied DEI, trans, books, and drag queens to atheism yet. Are we no longer en vogue for attack? Or has "atheist" dropped out of their thesaurus rota of slurs: communist, socialist, woke, atheist, libs? At this point, pinko-liberal-commie is old school.

I suspect their brains can only hold three words that mean the same thing, even though they don't mean the same thing.

The term "freethought" is generally associated with "atheism" and "humanism," two things more associated with Democrats and liberals than Republicans and conservatives.

RegularJoe's avatar

Well, the word "thought" is right in the title.... perhaps they know they're not qualified. 🤔

Troublesh00ter's avatar

The more the merrier! Welcome, ladies! Let us reason together!

CTW's avatar

Extremely pleased to see that my Congressperson, Judy Chu, has joined the Freethought Caucus! 😸

Too bad my own California MOC, Ted Lieu, isn't a member.

Kay-El's avatar

There may be no interest from the general public or media for now but if this group gathers more members and becomes more influential (yes, please, thanks) you can bet GOP/MAGA heads will explode…. And that’s a good thing for everyone.

Totally unrelated:

Is Donny Two-Dolls too dumb to realize that by (in his bizarro world) changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico (a country with more shoreline on it than the US) to Gulf of America, he's naming it after an ITALIAN?

Oh, and you'd better start on the states, Donny. How many are named after British or other European nobility? Talk about unpatriotic!

🤫 Better not tell him about Pierre, SD.

First on the list: “new” York.

NOGODZ20's avatar

"First on the list: "new" York."

“Even old New York was once New Amsterdam

Why they changed it, I can’t say.

People just liked it better that way.”

York isn't filled with swarthy people, so he's okay with that.

In other news, he's offered asylum to 58 people! Wealthy white South African farmers. Who don't meet UNHCR's definition of refugee.

Nope, no racism here.

95.8% white. I have a friend from there.

So white that mayo is considered dark.

Got two for my state now.

What's weird is that I only knew about Jayapal. When did Randall sneak in? :)

One from MD. Jamie Raskin. I live about 10 miles outside his district.

Donrox's avatar

I live across the river from Steve Cohen's district. Memphis/Shelby County is >Tennessee

Maltnothops's avatar

My bride recently got to see Raskin speak in person. She said he is very impressive. Which is high praise indeed as my bride is possibly even more cynical than me.

Maltnothops's avatar

My MOC very narrowly defeated a RWNJ in an open seat race. I would not ask her to join this caucus although I have every reason to think she supports it. My district is too purple.

Maltnothops's avatar

Yup.

Her election was disturbingly close. The R is a perpetual candidate. His signs never come down. And he was MAGA in spirit even before MAGA was a thing.

I’m old enough to remember when the very idea that Reagan might be elected president someday was a huge joke. Then he was elected president.

Neil Parrot (the RWNJ) in Congress? Hahahahahahaha…oh, shit! He is western Maryland’s version of MTG or Matt Gaetz without the sexual baggage (as far as I know).

Always nice to have new folks joining the cause, and I think we probably all need some good news considering recent events here in the US.

I still don’t see any members from Ohio, my home state (yes, there are Democrats in the House from Ohio). This is a state that would benefit from its delegation being a part of this forward thinking caucus.

Also, this is the CONGRESSIONAL Free Thought Caucus, which would presume that Senators would be eligible for membership, Congress being a bicameral legislative body, after all. How come no Senators, so far? Undoubtedly, the caucus would have a distinct advantage with Senatorial involvement.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

I'm in the process of writing to my representative, Shontel Brown, suggesting that she join the caucus. I am NOT writing either Bernie Moreno or Jon Husted, frankly because I don't think either of them would hear me, nor am I given to wasting my time with people whose minds simply will not change.

If that makes me a curmudgeon, then so be it.

Daniel Rotter's avatar

Caucuses are generally more of a "House" than a "Senate" thing.

The media stops short of reporting that the book burners were doing the Seig Heil during the burning.

Just watched the story of Polio on Story TV. How FDR's battle led to a nationwide fight against this scourge. Compare this to trumpy whose motto seems to be "Hurt as many as possible."
