I think the so-called Christian Nationalists tend to live in a bubble where they constantly reinforce one another. They are oblivious to the fact the overwhelming majority of Americans want no part of what they advocate for the country and delude themselves into believing people will passively submit to their rule if they can just attain power. If you want to see what genuine persecution looks like . . . hand power to the preachers.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

For all I can tell, the ONLY way Christian Nationalists can continue to survive is in that bubble. The world out here is a patchwork quilt of skin color, personal history, and sexual diversity, among multiple other things. To this day, I'm not convinced they can face that and come to grips with it.

Which is why, in the long run, they will FAIL.

The fear mongering has been going for so long that they are afraid of 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘡𝘩π˜ͺ𝘯𝘨 that doesn't fit into the narrow little boxes prescribed by their indoctrination. That's why assholes like yesterday's bible thumper shout "Our Father" if they hear the words "hail Satan".

Maltnothops's avatar

Here’s how much of a bubble they are in: the CNs at Christian Post deny that there is any such thing as Christian Nationalism. I believe them to be sincere…as well as sincerely delusional.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

They can't admit to their own perversion, as they see themselves as "normal." To acknowledge that would potentially mean dismantling themselves, and they can't face that.

A major victory, but not an end.

They will temporarily retreat, lick their wounds, and come back.

The arc of history only bends towards justice if good men and women stand up and make it bend that way against the neverending forces of those who wish to perpetuate injustice.

Much as I wish it were otherwise, I cannot foresee a time when the bigots and misogynists and homophobes will not be with us. They will insist on their way, insist on OTHERING people who are not like them, and do their damnedest to codify their bigotry into law. Because of that, we must ALWAYS be prepared to counter them, to fight against them and fight for those they would subjugate.

Doesn't matter if we're talking about the LGBTQ+ community, women, people of color, whatever. It's a never-ending struggle ... and we're stuck with it.

So many butthurt Nat-Cs in my Facebook feed posting maps of their states with lots of red areas and few blue ones thinking that if so many counties went red, they should have won. We have to remind them biannually that land doesn't vote.

Boreal's avatar

I saw a meme yesterday where someone asked how all those little blue areas could win and the reply was:

"Blue cities are where people live. The red patches are where corn grows and corn as of yet, does not have the right to vote."

Joe King's avatar

They also can't understand that people in the red areas voted blue, and people in the blue areas voted red. If the Republicans actually want to win, they need to find policies and positions that the majority actually want. Most of what they have had for nearly five decades has been fear of the other, and the last ten years has shifted them so that is all they have left.

Tinker's avatar

It's funny, you would think that targeting a particular racial group to be pulled over and stopped anytime the government feels like it would make those people more inclined to vote for you. /s

Seriously, Texas effectively removing conservative Hispanics from their base was a bold move. Redistricting to dilute the Republican vote all over Texas was the icing on the cake. Abbot did this to himself. Now he can take his settlement money and go eff off somewhere.

Apparently the biggest threat to Christianity in America is a Methodist pastor, a seminarian, a Muslim, and a bunch of atheists agreeing that nobody should be forced to practice it. Meanwhile, Christian nationalists are furious that they can't turn every public school into Sunday school. Jesus managed to deliver the Sermon on the Mount without a government chaplain, a Ten Commandments poster, or a single campaign contribution. Two thousand years later, his loudest political fans have decided the Gospel needs a taxpayer-funded enforcement division. Maybe they should try reading the sermon first.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Not only did Christian Nationalism take it on the chin, the concept of DEI – Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion – got a MASSIVE shot in the arm. There's a GAY MAN who will now be in the Senate! A Latina woman in the Governor's mansion in Texas! A Jewish woman as Ohio's governor, never mind a Muslim Senator from Michigan, and that's barely scratching the surface. Trump and Co. have less been TOLD than they have been SHOWN that We The People want Diverse, Equitable, and Included representation in public office.

Whether they're intelligent enough to learn this lesson (I'm VERY dubious!) is yet to be determined.

The bigots are starting with El-Sayed, claiming that now there's going to be Sharia law implemented nationwide. They can't wrap their heads around the fact that Sharia law is comparable to Kosher law and their own Christian rules.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Frankly, Sharia law has the same chance at this point as Mosaic law does: NONE.

Seems even MAGA didn't forget that the Church is SUPPOSED to be founded on LUV, and they apparently just stayed home.

I asked this question in a few other sites so I'll ask this question again here.

How did you guys feel when history was made last night when the Democratic party scored a dynamite win like no other?

Tinker's avatar

Almost as shocked as I was in '16. I will say though that in '16 I trusted the polls to be accurate within the margins of error that they told us they were. This year the polls were wrong again but in the wildly opposite direction.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

2024 was even more of a shock for me. To think that, after the four near-disastrous years of the first Trump administration, that the American people would want to return to that madness was unfathomable to me. Yet they (NOT WE!!!) did. It took two years before a proper rebuttal to that mistake was possible. But last Tuesday, that rebuttal was made, loud and clear.

The question now is whether Trump and MAGA can process that intelligently. I for one am dubious in the extreme.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Me? I'd say, "Buoyed and hopeful ... but in no way convinced that this fight is even remotely over." Elsewhere here, I cite Tim Gill, who said, "These problems never go away," because they DON'T.

We can't let up because THEY WON'T.

Excited and cautiously optimistic.

Arrogant Republicans treated people with scorn. Hell, they treated their own red state voters with that same contempt. And yet they wonder why people reacted...and voted...the way they did?

Iowa had significant gains from Tuesday's election. On the federal level, we went from a congressional delegation of 6 Trumpublicans to 4 Dems and 2 Trumpublicans. On the state level, we gained the governor's mansion, a couple of statewide positions, 11 house seats, and 1 senate seat.

β€œ(Mitch McConnell would be proud, I’m sure.)”

If he could have any feelings anymore. The rictus of death is taking over his face, why is he still in his position? He is so very visibly incapacitated that, even though he survived the summer, he cannot perform his duties, they ought to have done a special election to replace him. These past two years have seen some of the worst and most creative corruption and fiddle faddling this country has ever seen. Pretty much any way available to lie, cheat, manipulate, and steal there is has been used by this regime. Some more successful than others. But damn, every aspect of governance has been affected, and McConnell’s absence was a huge one. We do not need a mentally checked out geriatric puppet sitting in congress. He needs to be replaced immediately and let him pass away quietly in his home.
