ICE is out of control and it seems pretty clear they view themselves as above the law and answering to no one. The thing about Christianity being, apologists do not speak with anything close to a consistent voice and you can always find a church that will tell you what you want to hear. Even a church that has an ICE thug as a pastor.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

It seems to me that a class action suit against ICE and its agents should be in the offing, considering the multiple times they have violated the Fourth Amendment rights of residents and citizens.

Legal action to put a stop to these abuses is badly overdue, and some sharp lawyer or law firm should take it on.

Whitney's avatar

I would remind you that the current administration's tactic is 'move fast and break things' with the intent of making it harder for the court system to keep up.

John Smith's avatar

Not to mention to use the tactic of delay, delay as well!

"ICE is out of control"

Hardly surprising, since their ultimate boss is completely out of control.

Just one example of how out of control ICE is:

https://apnews.com/article/minnesota-immigration-us-citizen-detained-hmong-d009590a491c0c8243ef21ef24db7182

They likely completely fabricated the whole "we were looking for someone else who looks like you" narrative to try to justify the multiple 4th amendment and 8th amendment violations. And the MAGAts will eat it up.

Stephen Brady's avatar

The epithet 'evilgelical' comes to mind. Our legal system is being turned on its ear with all these bogus cases. They still require court time to adjudicate and eat up scarce resources. But I am sure blonde-haired, blue-eyed rethuglican Jeebus is standing there beaming!

NOGODZ20's avatar

Xtian clergy taking the side of fascists. They seem to have a habit and history of doing this.

Joe King's avatar

And the farther right the church, the more they support the fascism. Right wing assholes love to claim that fascism is left wing by bringing up the fact that the word "socialism" is in the official name of the Nazi party. But recent history exposes that lie.

John Smith's avatar

Except the average MAGA doesn’t know any actual history, so the MAGA will accept anything their clergy, leaders or media tell them!

Certainly the case for SBC and many so-called "bible-centered" churches

Ann Higgins's avatar

Kinder, Küche, Kirche. Who said that?

NOGODZ20's avatar

To be fair, that concept had its origins in 16th and 19th Century Germany. Hitler and the Nazis promoted it.

Ann Higgins's avatar

Yes, please let’s be fair. That’s our problem- we’re too bloody fair while the fascists take advantage of our fairness.

So, the FACE act is great when they want to punish brief peaceful protest inside a church, but they hate it when used against forced birthed spending the entire day screaming abuse at frightened women trying to go inside the local Planned Parenthood.

Oh, and how the fuck are houses of worship considered clinics?

Troublesh00ter's avatar

I would like to see some proof that the protesters were, in fact, blocking entrances or in any way impeding those who wished to enter that church. I'd be willing to bet that such proof will not be forthcoming.

John Smith's avatar

I sure the fascist boneheads are fabricating proof as we speak!

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Considering the general competence (or lack thereof) of this administration, their attempt to obfuscate the issue will be as transparent as they are NOT.

John Smith's avatar

True, this administration is very incompetent, but they will try anyway. The average MAGA will believe anything their clergy, leadership, media tells them! The average MAGA are armed and are willing to use violence to get what they want! We (non-MAGA) might have to resort to violence to defend ourselves and love ones from the fascist regime, even if only as the last resort. Unfortunately, we might not have much options but violence.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

I am reminded of a quote (gee, big surprise there, eh?):

𝑊𝑒 𝑓𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡 𝑜𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑖𝑟 𝑙𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑙. 𝑊𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑘𝑒𝑟𝑦, 𝑏𝑟𝑢𝑡𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑦, 𝑓𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑦. 𝑊𝑒 𝑚𝑎𝑡𝑐ℎ 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑖𝑟 𝑒𝑣𝑖𝑙.

-- Abraham Lincoln, Star Trek, "The Savage Curtain"

I fully expect the other side to fight dirty, and I have no compunction about fighting just as dirty, if for no other reason than to teach them a fucking lesson.

And while I'm at it:

𝑁𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑟𝑡 𝑎 𝑓𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡. 𝐴𝑙𝑤𝑎𝑦𝑠 𝑓𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑠ℎ 𝑖𝑡.

-- Captain John Sheridan, Babylon 5, "Severed Dreams"

I have no interest in throwing the first punch. I WILL be damned sure to throw the last one.

John Smith's avatar

Spot on, I love the quotes!👌 I WON’T START A FIGHT, BUT I WILL FINISH IT! Is what we will do, I am with you there, Troublesh00ter!

The purpose of the FACE Act was to criminalize civil disobedience at abortion clinics. The lawmakers included houses of worship in the legislation too as a pretense of both-sides neutrality, but the name of the act kind of gives the game away. Now we have the delightful situation of selective enforcement against whichever type of protestor the administration du jour disfavors. We ought to just repeal FACE, allow peaceful protests everywhere consistent with the First Amendment, and lean on existing broad-scope laws to penalize anyone who gets violent.

Linda's avatar

Unfortunately there is no such thing as peaceful protesters at abortion clinics. After all, these folks believe that people who go there are “murderers” and they want them humiliated, punished, locked up, or worse killed. I think the biggest mistake was separating abortion care from regular mainstream hospitals because of “controversy”. This so-called controversy doesn’t really exist as much as much government and media wants us to believe and it’s putting people’s lives at risk because they have a target on their heads.

Kristi Noem’s Goat's avatar

JD Vance told anti-abortion folks during the March for Life this past year that they would no longer be enforcing the FACE act at clinics unless something REALLY terrible happens like someone is murdered. Well, we all know they don’t care about that either. They welcome violence onto the “othered”

Whitney's avatar

First and foremost, I would note something that should be apparent in that so long as Christian churches and leadership insist on being part of the political arena, then said churches and leadership cannot turn around and insist on they aren't appropriate targets for protests. Fair is fair, and just because Christians don't like some form of speech directed at them doesn't mean said speech has violated any laws. Churches and leaders that want to avoid protests coming their way would do well to stay out of politics entirely.

Secondly, the actions ICE is performing are becoming more and more dangerous to the public and other law enforcement. ICE often conducts raids, arrests, and other enforcement activities in ways that leave the public feeling cornered and helpless; even a mouse is dangerous under similar circumstances. Add to that what had become known about ICE agents in the recent news (lack of training, dubious new hires, etc.) and at some point, you have a recipe for serious problems. Minnesota has, so far, been patient and responded in a manner that promotes peaceful resolution but I can't see that lasting forever.

And that part is why I'm currently up and posting instead of sleeping like I should be.

"Churches and leaders that want to avoid protests coming their way would do well to stay out of politics entirely."

I have posted several links to youtube vids explaining how churches have become campaign HQs for politicians and their hate-filled misogynistic homophobic jingoism. Many have seen the "flocks" divide, and walk away, never to return.

Obergfell was very neArly the kkkriststain Waterloo. Churches apprently did not realize every Gay person has a family that loves and cares about them. nComing out, and having famioly know they are Gay changed a lot of attitudes among siblings. They saw blood thicker than dogma.

I was just on fb, telling several kkkristers about their book demanding my murder as a Gay man. Then i ask them how they would feel if we treated them that way. So fr not one person has tried to defend it. ASimov said the bible is the best tool against religion. Posting several clobber passages against them shuts them up real quick. Their bibles have fr more psychotic passages against god than against Gays.

The regime will use any excuse to ramp up their violence and attack the country. The resistance hasn’t fallen into what they think is their clever trap to justify what they plan to do yet, by getting violent. Maybe we won’t take the bait, and if not they will get tired of waiting. Which might mean they give up, but more likely, they will just go ahead and do it without the justification.

Some have said that Trump is a lazy coward, that when he has tried this before in LA, Portland, and Chicago, the resistance was able to keep him at bay and then he gave up. He’s a toddler that is testing his boundaries, push here, get resistance, push there, resistance, push again and again until there’s a shift. Like I said yesterday, he’s trying to wear us down, a constant barrage to exhaust our resistance. The good news is that he’s losing support as folks actually see what he’s saying doesn’t align with the reality they’re experiencing. Their immediate attacks on Good were ill conceived, and poorly executed. While there are some people who are out there saying she rammed him with the car, they’re not saying that in good faith, and while some might be bots there are real people repeating it, but they’re not moving the needle to support the narrative. Too many folks have seen the videos, and the breakdowns and the fact that he walked away from her uninjured and even seen the videos or photos of him moving his house, carrying boxes, without any sign of injury. Nevermind the lack of evidence he ever stepped foot in a hospital, or of he did it was so long after the incident that it seems unnecessary.

Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that we need to keep up the pressure, don’t buy into his lies, keep correcting the sycophants online, and he will break. Bigger protests are coming, participate. Support these smaller types of protests as well. Good trouble doesn’t mean you don’t get prosecuted, it is still trouble after all, but it is necessary. Good for them for making these Nazis squirm. Keep it up.

In his TS slop, Stupid Idiot wants to throw Don Lemon in prison for no reason other than practicing his 1st Amendment rights just by filming the entire protest event for CNN.

The only reason Trump is still breathing is because he receives the finest medical care in the country. If he were anyone else, he'd have died long before now.

And that care only goes so far. It can't do anything for his rotting brain.

Just like when Christians claim that they are persecuted:

A Muslim mowing their lawn, Christians are being persecuted.

A gay couple goes grocery shopping, Christians are being persecuted.

A POC walking their dog, Christians are being persecuted.

Hell, all an atheist has to do to persecute Christians is to leave the toilet seat up, and the Christians will scream persecution?

That's the way it's always been in America, especially in the SBC. People showing up to worship God on Sunday when the previous night, they were out terrorizing and lynching their neighbors.

It's always been a pack of vile hypocrites and they will never change. Those churches only exist to provide comfort to the oppressors and justification for the oppression.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

It would seem as though ICE in general and Mr. Easterwood in particular can use a church as a form of sanctuary against those who are well aware of his activities and rightly call him out on his behavior. That they do it in a house of worship really shouldn't enter into the equation. Easterwood has transgressed against his fellow humans as an ICE agent and should damned well answer for that. This is only made worse by Kristi Noem and the fact that, in her eyes, her field representatives can do no wrong and will not be called on the carpet for their own criminality.

This entire business is beginning to reach a boiling point, and I am not sanguine at all of the consequences when it gets there.

100% They have a damn Right to protest ANYONE supporting FASCISTS in this country. We are all sick and tired of talk and references to lawsuits that will take decades. They need direct confrontation for the desecration and war tactics against our own citizens. Time to join Minnesotans who stand up and keep saying NO to it all. Minneapolis: WE ARE WITH YOU!

Val Uptuous NotAgain's avatar

I feel like a broken record, but the right is projecting. Every accusation is a confession from them. They are saying that this peaceful protest was the worst possible thing ever, akin to murder, because if they were given the same opportunity or reason, they would murder us.

I’ve been raging lately when the ICE agents and Noem and every other of in the Trump machine try to force the narrative that the protestors are protecting child rapists and murderers. I mean, if you are trying to distract from the Trumpstein files, you are doing a piss poor job of it. It is straight up projection. Trump is the Epstein files, he was running the show, if what I’ve heard about the recent testimony is true, Trump really is the ring leader and Epstein the fall guy as I’ve been saying. Trump is trying to cover up for his evil deeds, but blatant lies about the Granny selling tamales on the street corner being a pedophile and/or murderer only points out how morally bankrupt you are and that you are a pedophile and murderer. How dumb do they think we are.

TLDR: Trump is a pedophile and murderer and he’s trying to make us look at poor immigrants for the crimes he’s committing himself.
