Ken Paxton is as corrupt as they come, and always has been. The Texas Senate did not acquit Paxton on the charges that got him impeached because he was innocent. They circled the wagons and acquitted him because he's a Republican. This is more show-boating on Paxton's part. Performance art directed at the bottom-feeding Republican base so they can play the poor, persecuted victims of the godless left. The same people who would lose their minds at the mere suggestion any religion but their own be represented in the public school classrooms.

Hey, Texas...

Posting the 10 C is a violation of the 2nd Commandment. And when are you going to get it in your thick skulls that the 10 C were meant for the Israelites alone?

Oh, Ken. So much wrong here. America is not a Christian nation, and it never has been, except in the sense that there happen to be more Christians than any other belief system. Even there, with the internecine warfare of the past 5 centuries the "no true Christian" types would say the real Christians are a small minority. The values that have historically guided the country? Over one third of the time that the US has existed the values and timeless truths saw no problem with owning people like owning horses and cattle. Refusing to follow state law where it violates the Constitution is doing the opposite of ignoring the legal and moral heritage of our nation. When your state lost the treasonous war that firmly established the supremacy of the Constitution over anything your little Legislature could come up with, that also established the legal and moral grounds to defy state law when it directly violates federal law.

Ken, please fuck off. We're getting tired of people like you pissing on our constitutional rights.

I have nothing to add, despite my lack of caffeine. But if the 10 Commandments are so important:

one of them says thou shall not commit adultery. I’m not sure exactly how many mistresses Paxton has had, but they weren’t his wife.

One of them says thou shall not bear fall witness. 10 Commandments had nothing to do with the secular and civil law of the United States.

One of them says remember the Sabbath day and keep it. Nobody’s trying to close down Walmart on Sunday.

We also have Commandments against theft which six bankruptcies ought to qualify Trump for.

Somehow it just seems to me that they don’t really take the 10 Commandments seriously

The Ten Commandments should be posted in every Republican office to remind them of the hypocrisy of the all their talk compared to their actions. If the Ten Commandments are not worthy to be posted in churches, then why post them anywhere else.

MAGAS already think “actual” dictionaries and encyclopedias are books written by the devil! The only expertise and knowledge that MAGAS have is how to cook roadkill and how to have sex with barnyard animals.

They don't care. It's a win-win situation for the nast-cs.

1) braxton wins. The commandments posters are forced upon every child in public schools of the state.

2) braxton loses, taxpayers money for public schools was wasted, and he gets to play the persecution game.

The groups (ACLU, FFRF, et al.) fighting this blatantly unconstitutional law, should also step up to defend this district, then use this lawsuit against their own schools as proof of the illegality of the law. Or, at least, the zealotry of the state “leadership” to push an agenda that isn’t cut and dry constitutional.

The law goes against the establishment clause, as well as the free exercise clause of the Bill of Rights in the federal constitution. Whether you want to call it church state separation or not, it is clearly established that the state, the government in general, cannot dictate which religion anyone follows nor get in the way of folks when they follow their own religion. Forcing the Ten Commandments into schools this way is demanding all who go to these schools should be Christian (a certain type of Christian, to boot) and that interferes in these students’ rights to follow their own religions as they see fit. Pretending this is anything else, is asinine. The history of the Ten Commandments is spurious in regards to our country’s origins. The monuments on government property were a marketing campaign by a Hollywood movie from 1956, not from the founding fathers of 1776. The founders saw enough blood spilled over which version of the Decalogue was the right version already, Protestant vs. Catholic wars were destroying plenty of lives, to know that there shouldn’t be government involvement.

Let’s burn the whole thing down and start over with 20/20 hindsight. Put the separation of church and state in the body of the constitution, explain what it means in detail so there is no confusion. Plus a bunch of other things, like specifically what is treason so we can’t get assholes excusing the sherbet pervert’s takeover.

Galveston needs to join the larger ongoing suit, and the federal judge who issued the original stay really needs to issue some guidance to those 14 (+ GISD, if they join) about what to do in the interim.

The pace the courts move at, I am not at all surprised the full hearing won't happen until January. However IMO it's a clear responsibility of the judicial branch to tell these plaintiffs and defendants what to do *right now* as they wait for the courts to make a more permanent decision.
