Ken Paxton is as corrupt as they come, and always has been. The Texas Senate did not acquit Paxton on the charges that got him impeached because he was innocent. They circled the wagons and acquitted him because he's a Republican. This is more show-boating on Paxton's part. Performance art directed at the bottom-feeding Republican base so they can play the poor, persecuted victims of the godless left. The same people who would lose their minds at the mere suggestion any religion but their own be represented in the public school classrooms.

Holytape's avatar

I am not sure what you are implying. But as a Republican, I looked at the evidence. He is white rich Christian and a male. How much more innocent can you get?

Hey, Texas...

Posting the 10 C is a violation of the 2nd Commandment. And when are you going to get it in your thick skulls that the 10 C were meant for the Israelites alone?

oraxx's avatar

They couldn't care less about that. This is all about manipulating the base into voting against their self-interests yet again.

susan conner's avatar

Tell that to the judge! But don't tell the minions of the corrupt ruler because all hell will break loose then and chaos will reign.

Oh, Ken. So much wrong here. America is not a Christian nation, and it never has been, except in the sense that there happen to be more Christians than any other belief system. Even there, with the internecine warfare of the past 5 centuries the "no true Christian" types would say the real Christians are a small minority. The values that have historically guided the country? Over one third of the time that the US has existed the values and timeless truths saw no problem with owning people like owning horses and cattle. Refusing to follow state law where it violates the Constitution is doing the opposite of ignoring the legal and moral heritage of our nation. When your state lost the treasonous war that firmly established the supremacy of the Constitution over anything your little Legislature could come up with, that also established the legal and moral grounds to defy state law when it directly violates federal law.

Ken, please fuck off. We're getting tired of people like you pissing on our constitutional rights.

I have nothing to add, despite my lack of caffeine. But if the 10 Commandments are so important:

one of them says thou shall not commit adultery. I’m not sure exactly how many mistresses Paxton has had, but they weren’t his wife.

One of them says thou shall not bear fall witness. 10 Commandments had nothing to do with the secular and civil law of the United States.

One of them says remember the Sabbath day and keep it. Nobody’s trying to close down Walmart on Sunday.

We also have Commandments against theft which six bankruptcies ought to qualify Trump for.

Somehow it just seems to me that they don’t really take the 10 Commandments seriously

"CHRISTIAN, n. One who believes that the New Testament is a divinely inspired book admirably suited to the spiritual needs of his neighbor. One who follows the teachings of Christ in so far as they are not inconsistent with a life of sin."

-Ambrose Bierce, Devil's Dictionary, 1911.

My copy of the devil‘s dictionary, when I had it, was well marked.

John Smith's avatar

The Ten Commandments should be posted in every Republican office to remind them of the hypocrisy of the all their talk compared to their actions. If the Ten Commandments are not worthy to be posted in churches, then why post them anywhere else.

MAGAS already think “actual” dictionaries and encyclopedias are books written by the devil! The only expertise and knowledge that MAGAS have is how to cook roadkill and how to have sex with barnyard animals.

Bensnewlogin's avatar

But neither of those are in the 10 Commandments. Strange

oraxx's avatar

Eight of the Commandments would be unconstitutional if someone tried writing them into law.

Zorginipsoundsor's avatar

The "sabbath" is actually Saturday.

Pedantically yours.

Bensnewlogin's avatar

Or Friday. There’s only one solution. Cancel everything Friday through Sunday.

Friday evening to Saturday evening.

Arstafas's avatar

Although that was a commandment and seemed really important to God at the time, he got over it apparently. He's okay with you thinking about Jesus on Sunday instead of resting on Saturday thinking about his creation, you gotta pick one or the other apparently. God never expected you to waste the whole weekend on holy BS.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

No, they don't take them that seriously. They just want to use them as a bludgeon against everyone who isn't them, never mind the whole territory-marking routine.

Bensnewlogin's avatar

We both know that.

Unfortunately.

Anyone else notice the subtle racism and xenophobia here? At least half of the brown people in Texas are Catholic. Using KJV only is telling them they are not welcome unless they convert to far right Protestant fundamentalism.

I don't get it - doesn't this concern a public school district, which is funded with federal and state dollars? Isn't Texas essentially suing itself?

Black Hole and DM mourner's avatar

They don't care. It's a win-win situation for the nast-cs.

1) braxton wins. The commandments posters are forced upon every child in public schools of the state.

2) braxton loses, taxpayers money for public schools was wasted, and he gets to play the persecution game.

Zorginipsoundsor's avatar

Suing their own taxpayers.

Carrie Deitzel's avatar

Texans should bring a class action suit against state government for spending all their tax dollars on frivolous BS.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Now THERE is a suggestion worth exploration!

Whitney's avatar

It's clearly time for malicious compliance in Texas.

This issue is already well out of hand. Instead of allowing these Ten Commandments posters to be special by being alone, displays should include other codes, like the Wiccan Rede, The Satanic Temple's Seven Tenets, Buddhism's Four Noble Truths, and so on. (I do sometimes regard this as a down side of atheism: there is no ready-made code of behavior that can be neatly put on a poster and displayed.) Better yet, put all of 'em on one very large poster, just so if one comes down they all have to.

Christian territory marking deserves to be mocked as often and loudly as possible; if that makes Ken Paxton's head explode, well. That's just a bonus.

Black Hole and DM mourner's avatar

What do you think of this ?

1) Doubt anything and everything that has no scientific basis

2) Don't be stagnant, evolve

3) You are a lighted candle in the darkness, not Alexandria's lighthouse

4) Share what you know and learn from others

5) Diversity is Homo Sapiens strenght, not rote conformity

Whitney's avatar

I'd say it's a good start. Maybe something about these being a guideline rather than a a complete and unalterable rule set, though?

Black Hole and DM mourner's avatar

It's a first draft. Now. It's your job to share and modify it as you wish 😉

ericc's avatar

Small government was only ever something conservatives shouted when the fed imposed liberal ideas on them, like removing segregation and imposing voter rights limitations on gerrymandering. They were never serious about it, and now that they have a lock on most states as well as the House, Senate, etc., their true colors come out.

Arstafas's avatar

yes, small government and local control was when they were a minority party.
