Any time I see "liberty, freedom or patriot" in an organization or group's name. I know they are fascists.

I live in the DFW metroplex and I must admit, I once traveled nearly half a mile without seeing a church! Shocking, I know! Dan Patrick was a Houston radio gas bag and Rush Limbaugh wannabe as well as a four-star religious nut job. That is 100% of what he brings to the table. Like most fervent evangelicals, Patrick cares about no one’s freedom of religion other than his own, and he wants nothing more than to force it on everyone in the name of saving America.

Claudia's avatar

A real committee interested in real freedom of religion would have a different membership, it'd include representatives of all kinds of other faiths plus some atheists and heathens and NOT just christians. It definitely does not do what it says on the tin!

('it does exactly what it says on the tin' - that started out as an advertising slogan for a paint company: https://www.ronseal.com/the-ronseal-brand/the-ronseal-phrase/

I like that slogan!

"his top priority in office is making “Christian/family values our foundation again.”"

You can start with Donald Trump: unrepentant rapist, alleged child predator, serial unrepentant adulterer, habitual liar, bully, cheat, thief, and warmonger.

And Ken Paxton. Cheat, liar, adulterer.

Your governor who welcomed the immigrant with razor wire buoys to drown them.

Then move on to your caucus and party who views the poor as parasites and shows partiality to the rich.

oraxx's avatar

Ken Paxton is as corrupt as they come.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

You know that and I know that. But the resident troll here doesn't seem to be willing to acknowledge that previous performance may be a reliable predictor of future behavior, especially considering the considerable amount of evidence we have to that effect.

Ya know, if someone throws a punch at me, I can usually block it. However, it HELPS if I'm in a ready position FIRST.

Claudia's avatar

Exactly. They seem to think that ICE detentions equates to the command to 'provide succour to strangers', decimating healthcare to 'heal the sick', cutting foodstamps to 'feed the hungry', voter suppression via the SAVE act to 'honour thy mother' .... I'm sure you'll be able to come up with a few more examples!

Len Koz's avatar

Trump and Paxton are perfect examples of the family values these people espouse.

God-given religious liberty rights, Danny Boy? Since when is your god concerned about liberty or rights? YHVH is a dictator who demands unquestioning devotion...or else.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

The bible and its contents are far more interested in dictating humankind's obligations to the head honcho in the front office than it has EVER been interested in human rights or freedoms. The bible, as most all of us well know, is about patriarchy and theocracy.

Anyone who wants to assert otherwise is talking out of their ass.

Val Uptuous NotAgain's avatar

“do not fully understand their God-given religious liberty rights secured under the First Amendment.”

If they were God-given, then they wouldn’t need the first amendment to secure them. And, there’s nothing in the bible, or any Christian teachings that remotely resemble our first amendment right to free belief and practice of religion, Christianity demands obedience. There’s no freedom in it whatsoever, especially not the freedom to believe in other religions or no religion. So, you are lying. Our rights are not god-given, they are fought and won only by the people against the tyrants. You are on the side of tyrants and the people know it.

It's just more of the same - old white people who seem to think that things were "better" in the past, and want to replicate the past by "bringing back Christian values," even though those values never existed broadly in the first place.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Just like they'd love to bring back Jim Crow and men as unquestioned head of households, a la Father Knows Best and Ozzie and Harriet. They want to live in the past.

How I wish they could be relegated to the past!

I see that the insults from Trump and Hegseth about the Europeans not helping the US out in its war with Iran.

Neither of them seem to have a clue what to do about the fact that the Iranians refuse to capitulate. The threats and hyperbole seem to get more extreme.

Elsewhere, I have suggested that if Hegseth really wants to terrify the Iranians, then perhaps he should get the Air Force to drop kegs of beer instead of bombs. I am sure his personal supply would be ample.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

And LOTS of haram stuff. Maybe they should parachute a lot of puppy dogs in as well, since they're supposed to be HORRIBLY "unclean!"

Sycophants copying Der Führer to push the same ideology. These people think that religious freedom means everyone has the freedom to choose which denomination of Christianity they wish to follow, and nothing else. They may allow Jewish congregations for a while so they can use their "see we're not really Nazis" lies for a while longer, but we all know what their end goal is here: a theocratic authoritarian regime that forces conformity into their narrow little boxes. They want Gilead.

Speaking of Texas’s Gilead, another woman was rushed to the emergency room after her ectopic pregnancy was misdiagnosed by Christian staff posing as “medical professionals” at a crisis pregnancy center.

Definitely. However, I believe laws or protections were put in place already so they can’t be touched.

Those "laws and protections" deserve some review, and almost certainly, a move to revoke!

Hey, King...

Those words you want Texas kids to "look on the wall and read...those words that God says because we want them to understand how important that those statements of God, those rules of God."

Besides the poor sentence structure and repetition of the word "God," let's get a few things straight. Those Commandments you want schoolchildren to read and learn (which are no doubt taught in Sunday school as well as their churches) are NOT the "real" Ten Commandments. They are never called that. Forget Exodus 20 and look at Exodus 34 for the genuine article (word of warning: THOSE Commandments bear little resemblance to YOUR set). And the 10 C were meant ONLY for the Chosen People in a time when the US didn't even exist. Oh, and if your forgot, putting up images of those 10 Rules violates the 2nd Rule. Did that somehow escape your notice?

Instead of worrying about kids, perhaps you should push Ten Commandments in Congress, the Senate and...most of all...the White House. They are certainly far more in need of reading and heeding those words they are endlessly violating.

The American Revolution was an act of rebellion against the God-given authority as outlined in Romans 13, King George the Third, to whom good Christians were supposed to submit.

Danny-boy, it's pretty clear that you don't, either. The Establishment Clause of the First Amendment applies to everyone and NOT JUST CHRISTIANS, much as you would like things to go that way. Your "committee," such as it is, has little other purpose than to foist yet more Christian agitprop on Texans, and I can pretty well guarantee you that there are more than a few of them who will not appreciate that much, if at all. The very fact that the Freedom From Religion Foundation has already called you out on this noise should tell you that you shouldn't go any further.

But of course you will ... and I'm sure the lawyers involved will appreciate the business.

It is never the job of our secular government to backstop anyone's religion, and Christians are not the only people with rights. The freedom of religion is NOT a right to force your religion on others. Rights are NOT God-given. Our rights are the product of secular government.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Would that you could tell Patrick & Co. that and get them to LISTEN!

OT:

In 2019, the state of Colorado banned licensed mental health professionals from practicing conversion therapy. Christian therapist Kaley Chiles, a licensed professional counselor who describes herself as “a practicing Christian” who believes that “people flourish when they live consistently with God’s design,” sued the state to challenge the law with help from the anti-LGBTQ+ hate group Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF).

Troublesh00ter's avatar

I defy them to demonstrate that their "therapy" has any meaningful positive effect. I will further challenge them to submit their techniques to a peer review.

Any bets as to whether they'll take me up on that?

Boreal's avatar

They don't care. Like all the horror perpetrated by xtians on others. Their main intent is to harm others. We see it daily in the news and on this site.

NOGODZ20's avatar

No bet. They'd sooner swear off religion than take up your challenge.

"who falsely believes the Founding Fathers “honored the Lord through our constitution”"

Prove it. Where in the constitution did the founding fathers honor the Lord? Show me the specific words. Where is Jesus, Lord, Christian or Christianity in the constitution? And don’t bother with the “the year of our lord” bullshit. That’s just the convention they used at the time for dates and had nothing to do with the founders specific preferences, just like everyone used to use AD and BC until CE and BCE. Where did the founding fathers mention anything about religion that wasn’t preceded by “no”?

It’s not there. You’re making shit up to feed your narrative.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Five will get you 50 that they want to point to the mention of "nature's God" and "endowed by their Creator" in the Declaration of Independence. What they conveniently (and repeatedly!) ignore is the fact that the DoE is NOT a foundational document of the United States. It is, as a lot of us have cited too many times to count, a DECLARATION OF WAR. Further, Jefferson allowed those phrases in under protest. He didn't want them there in the first place.

On top of that, there's that phrase in the Preamble: "... do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America." The document proclaims itself as the founding instrument of the US, about as blatantly as could be hoped for. And what follows in six Articles has no mention of Jesus or Yahweh, and the one mention of religion insists that: "... no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States." And, of course, there's also the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment.

Sorry to run on so long, but this stuff pisses me off sometimes! 😁

gOD must be so impressed by these performances! 'he' created the universe and everything in it, and sent 'his son'/'himself' to straighten out all the misunderstandings from 'his' first guide for humans, and had followers make up a second guide, expressly calling out performative worship, but that is all 'his' current followers can muster. Funny how that al works.

Len Koz's avatar

If he's as powerful and perfect as his followers claim, how do they explain the message being misunderstood in the first place?

Maltnothops's avatar

I asked that at Christian Post and was told that god deliberately didn’t want to make it too easy. People need to use “discernment”.
