Pissing on the Constitution. Trying to mark the public schools as their exclusive territory. That's what Christian Nationalists do. Am I surpised? No. Will the legal challenges be successful? I hope so, but with the January 20 scheduled transfer from the Uniited States to the Republic of Gilead, I am concerned.

SeekingReason's avatar

Joe, we already pissed on AND shredded the Constitution by letting a Seditionist and numerous other seditionists take the office of president and the republican side of Congress. The damage is complete.

"I hope so, but with the January 20 scheduled transfer from the Uniited States to the Republic of Gilead, I am concerned."

It seems likely we'll look back on this valid outrage with nostalgia as our government starts encouraging terrorism against Americans that don't worship the dear little leader.

I didn't see a requirement for hanging the text of the 10C's graven image facing outward instead of facing the wall.

I like your way of thinking! 😄

THE EIGHT I'D REALLY RATHER YOU DIDN'TS

1. I'd Really Rather You Didn't Act Like A Sanctimonious Holier-Than-Thou Ass When Describing My Noodly Goodness. If Some People Don't Believe In Me, That's Okay. Really, I'm Not That Vain. Besides, This Isn't About Them So Don't Change The Subject.

2. I'd Really Rather You Didn't Use My Existence As A Means To Oppress, Subjugate, Punish, Eviscerate, And/Or, You Know, Be Mean To Others. I Don't Require Sacrifices, And Purity Is For Drinking Water, Not People.

3. I'd Really Rather You Didn't Judge People For The Way They Look, Or How They Dress, Or The Way They Talk, Or, Well, Just Play Nice, Okay? Oh, And Get This Through You Thick Heads: Woman=Person, Man=Person. Samey-Samey. One is Not Better Than The Other, Unless We're Talking About Fashion And I'm Sorry, But I Gave That To Women And Some Guys Who Know The Difference Between Teal And Fuchsia.

4. I'd Really Rather You Didn't Indulge In Conduct That Offends Yourself, Or Your Willing, Consenting Partner Of Legal Age AND Mental Maturity. As For Anyone Who Might Object, I Think The Expression Is Go F*** Yourself, Unless They Find That Offensive In Which Case They Can Turn Off The TV For Once And Go For A Walk For A Change.

5. I'd Really Rather You Didn't Challenge The Bigoted, Misogynist, Hateful Ideas Of Others On An Empty Stomach. Eat, Then Go After The B*******.

6. I'd Really Rather You Didn't Build multi million-Dollar Churches/Temples/Mosques/ Shrines To My Noodly Goodness When The Money Could Be Better Spent (Take Your Pick): A. Ending Poverty B. Curing Diseases C. Living In Peace, Loving With Passion, And Lowering The Cost Of Cable. I Might Be A Complex Carbohydrate Omniscient Being, But I Enjoy The Simple Things In Life. I Ought To Know. I AM The Creator.

7. I'd Really Rather You Didn't Go around Telling People I Talk To you. You're Not That Interesting. Get Over Yourself. And I Told You To Love Your Fellow Man, Can't You Take A Hint?

8. I'd Really Rather You Didn't Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You If You Are Into, Um, Stuff That Uses Alot Of Leather/Lubrication/Las Vegas. If The Other Person Is Into It However (Pursuant To #4), Then Have At It, Take Pictures, And For The Love Of Mike, Wear A CONDOM! Honestly It's A Piece Of Rubber, If I Didn't Want It To Feel Good When You Did It I Would Have Added Spikes, Or Something.

Ra'men.

Notice, once again, that a republican christianity pusher ignores the two documents that most directly affected the both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution - the Virginia Declaration of Rights, authored by George Mason and adopted in 1776, which prohibits government from interfering with private matters of conscience like religion; and the Virginia Statue for Religious Freedom, authored by Thomas Jefferson and adopted in 1786, a year before Jefferson's protege James Madison used as a basis for the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

But, of course, the views of towering figures in America's founding take a back seat to quacks like David Barton who has been trying to rewrite American history to suit his own christian dominionist views for decades. Let's hope this effort in SD gets swatted away by the courts as earlier attempts in LA and other states have.

Jessica Moats's avatar

I feel like their whole intention is a sort of religio signaling to other would-be Christian Nationalists. I scrolled through some pre-election livestreams of church services around me to see what a “god and politics” sermon was and all of them talked about it being their “duty” to get involved in politics and spread their religion. So these shenanigans to me are just about getting press and stoking the flame to get others riled up enough to start running. Creates more of their victimhood fantasy.

Jane in NC's avatar

They've turned in the quasi-religious arm of the republican party trying to hide their political agenda behind their 'faith.' They're as phony as their make-up wearing orange idol.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

I call that "Martyrbation" where they look for any pushback to curtail their pushing their weird religion on others, to claim persecution.

SeekingReason's avatar

It is also BLATANTLY illegal for a Seditionist to hold the office of the president of the US. This should clarify where we are!

Troublesh00ter's avatar

I'd LOVE to see him stopped. I am NOT, however, holding my breath.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

I want him to walk up to the white house and "Boom" massive heart attack, right on the lawn.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Would NOT bother me in the slightest ... except that it would make JD Vance president!

Is there any evidence that having this in every classroom is going to improve the educational attainment of any South Dakotan child?

Any estimate of which it’s going to cost? I wonder if there are things upon which it could be better spent.

ericc's avatar

I'm sure he's more interested in the evidence that *proposing* it increases his reelection chances. And like a thief breaking a window for a $1 pack of gum, the cost is not something he considers since he's not the one paying it.

Joe King's avatar

At best, this will be neutral for educational outcomes. The cost? Too much.

[So… the bill forces kids to learn a false, David Barton-approved version of American history that puts Christianity at its forefront even when it has no business being there.]

Hey, now. Genocide and slavery are biblical and a large part of American history.

Nuki Mo's avatar

You wrote, “Hey, now. Genocide and slavery are biblical and a large part of American history.” Sounds like this would make a couple nice posters to be placed next to the Nat’c’ commandments. Maybe other posters include the Constitution, (highlighting Seperation of Church(es) and State! -or- “He/They” want to promote their ‘c’hristianity. (small ‘c’ since practicing what they preach = forcing their versions of it onto others) How about posters of those pesky parts/passages of the Bible describing rape, murder, incest etc. Sadly, all those are part of our nation’s founding, historic past and happen everyday. Guess the 10-C’s and religion taught in schools in the past & in the eleventy-bazillion churches today, haven’t done a G-damn thing to stop the rapes, murders, incest etc. But the 10-C posters will magically do the trick. Yeah, right.

Len Koz's avatar

I would like illustrated posters of Ezekiel 23:20 on every classroom wall.

Zizzer-Zazzer-Zuzz's avatar

With today's technology, we should be able to get them animated.

prbev's avatar

That would be a sight to see!

NOGODZ20's avatar

How about Lot and his daughters? Family values, and all.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

They definitely ARE republican family values. Lock up, or stick your daughters in a cave, tell them lies about how dangerous it is outside the cave, keeping them ignorant so they can't escape and breed them for Jesus.

Ty's avatar

Sure they have. All those churches have increased the number of abused women, racist activities and plenty of people who don’t understand how the constitution works except for the increased use of their guns.

Nuki Mo's avatar

I agree with you. Ya know, if someone didn’t know what you were talking about, they could easily think you were talking about Fox & other wrong-wing media, red state legislatures &/or the MAG A-GOP! (Make Americans Gag Anti-Gov’t Of the People)

LindaJay's avatar

How come nobody has showed them to the felon elect and read them to him? He has violated every single one of those commandments, yet he will be back in office. Or, are these people afraid that our kids would turn out just like him. 🤔 oh, the hypocrisy !!

It’s pretty galling that South Dakota pushes Christianity so hard, considering the number of First Nations peoples and reservation in the state. Pretty sure this might have an ulterior motive, aside from the general Christian nationalism, but more for the reminder of residential schools and the genocide of our native peoples.

ericc's avatar

Same with Oklahoma.

Bagat's avatar

KKKtisters here have fought tooth and nail against investigating "residential schools." NO amount of endless suffering is allowed to see the light of day.

NOGODZ20's avatar

"...but the Ten Commandments certainly were a part of the founding of our country."

youtu.be/pjJJnz2_85w

The 10 C had ZERO to do with our founding as a nation. That you sincerely believe such tripe amply demonstrates your ignorance of the 7 key founders (five of whom were not Christians and another who was a marginal Christian at best) and how they envisioned a secular governent based on reason.

Tell us: Where in the US Constitution is Christianity in any way, shape or form mentioned? If the best you can do is "The Year of Our Lord," then you should know that it is not part of the body of that document and was added later by a scriviner. Sorry.

Freedom of worship does not allow you to push your religion on others. Just the opposite. It PREVENTS the believers in another religion (or another sect of your religion) from pushing their ways on YOU.

South Dakota is 43rd in Health Care. Perhaps your energies are best served elsewhere.

Such an original idea, Senator Fückwït (R - Reststop)¹. Quite frankly, I'm aghast and agog that no one has thought of this ploy to promote Xtian nationalist ideology in public schools! Well-done, good sir! Bravo!

(¹ Seriously, look at the mapⁿ of this derp's hometown, it's literally a long thin strip aside Interstate 90 at the far western edge of SoDak. It's a truck stop for those who forgot to fuel up in Rapid City.²)

So it is just an extension of Project Blitz, they just call it something else since folks were catching on to the con. Don’t worry, once Project 2025/Agenda 47/or whatever they’re calling it nowadays takes effect in a few days, the Ten Commandments will be the only poster allowed in classrooms, the teachers themselves will pay for them personally, there will be no other distractions on the walls (safety be damned), and anyone complaining will be put in the stocks.

The Ten Commandments have failed to stop even clergy from these particular sins, what makes these asshole think that atheist or non Christian children will suddenly come to Jesus by looking at them every day? They’ll just be reminders that the adults around them that believe in this stuff are still just as immoral and selfish as anyone else. Worse really, since they’re reminded by the commandments and are going to face an all knowing god but they still break the rules. Children are not dumb, they see what adults do and how what they do and what they say don’t match up. And any investigation at all would show the Ten Commandments have zero to do with the laws of our government.

Ty's avatar

Guarantee everyone that 3/4s of our children & adults cannot READ these posters. Either while in our classrooms or after they are gifted a diploma, much less follow anything on the poster. AND I’ll be damned if I’m going to read it to students every morning. It’s bad enough I have to listen to the pledge in Spanish

Matilda's avatar

I was a teacher of 5-7yos who couldn't hack the skill of reading. How to help them became my specialism. I once found a reputable statistic that the average reading age in the UK was 9yo and the reading age of the KJV was 11yo. Never tried that statistic on any fundy.....cos I was pretty sure they'd say their good ole holy ghost would interpret. I want to see my 8yo g/son's response to seeing 'Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's ass.' I'm sure he and all his buddies would put an 'r' in the last word!

Ty's avatar

Average reading ability of a U.S. adult is somewhere between 3rd & 6th grade. Our conman president speaks as a 3rd grader and that’s a challenge for him. The U.S. ranks 36th in world literacy. I just can’t figure out why 1/2 the country is so gullible & never reads anything? Totally dependent on the idiot box set to Fox News Channel who’ll tell them what to think and parrot.

The photo below, a stone carving of the virgin Mary, is currently being touted by believers as proof of a miracle since it survived the southern California inferno that destroyed the home that housed it. The miracle mongers seem oblivious to the unburned stones on the ground or the standing stone wall in the background of the photo, also still intact. Maybe that's why kilns and fireplaces are usually made of brick or stone, since fire doesn't burn brick or stone.

Somewhat confused 😕

Why all this fixation with the Ten Commandments for a 'Christian nation'?

Wouldn't it be more appropriate that it be the Beatitudes (Jesus) which emphasise the spiritual virtues and eternal reward of being poor in spirit, meek, righteous, merciful, pure in heart, peaceful and being a peacemaker? 🤔

Or doesn't this fit the narrative and psyche that some see and wish for the USA?

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

The christian Nationalists don't believe in that hippie nonsense!

Lynn Veit's avatar

In my neck of the woods in North Florida, "hippies" were never mentioned without the modifier "dirty nasty commie" spoken first.

Matri's avatar

With the Beatitudes, they would have to give up their sins and start caring for others, which is HAAAAAARRDDD!

With the 10 C, they don’t have to do all that AND they get to bash other people with it.
