Walters, a devout Christian, wants his state's taxpaying public to buy copies of the bible being shilled by a convicted felon and a serial adulterer who cheated on all 3 of his vives as well as routinely violating all 7 Deadly Sins.

Not doing your religion any favors, Walters.

I am NOT a supporter of Trump. The main reason has nothing to do with his domestic political agenda but has everything to do with his blantant admiration and praise of dictators like Putin, Orbin, and the North Korean guy. Americans need to wake up!!! It does not matter what his policies actually are if he is a DICTATOR!!!!!

I have an Ole Mathiessen watch that I won at an open house a Bang & Olufsen dealer held for its customers. When I looked it up, I found out it cost over $2,000 and it was the second prize. I still have it almost 30 years later and only replaced the leather band and the batteries. People don't wear watches much anymore. I also have an antique pocket watch that needs to be wound up with a key.

This is such a win-win-win for Trump and Walters that it's ridiculous. Trump gets to boast about selling his stupid bibles. He picks up an unambiguous endorsement from Walters, and Walters gets to show off what a Trump sycophant he is, while pushing his Christian agenda on Oklahoma schools.

There's only one problem, and its initials are FFRF!

E.A. Blair's avatar

I would raise a big stink about the use of heretic bibles instead of the only true version (the Jerusalem bible, since I was raised in a Catholic family) and unless they could get a version that ALL christian denom…er…cults could agree on (all 30,000+ of them) that they should not be using that book in any public schools but to leave that to the parents' churches. To do otherwise would be a violation of freedom of religion. To support my argument, I would cite State ex rel. Weiss v. District Board, 76 Wis. 177 (1890), in which the Wisconsin State Supreme Court banned all bible classes from public schools because Catholic parents objected to the use of the heretic King James version instead of the Douay-Rheims version.

In State ex rel Weiss v. District Board 76 Wis. 177 (1890), 3, otherwise known as the Edgerton Bible Case, the judges overruled the circuit court's decision by concluding that it illegally united the functions of church and state (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edgerton_Bible_Case).

If you are unfamiliar with the Philadelphia Bible Riots (1830s), you can read about it on Wiki. Essentially, civil unrest between Catholics and Prots over the proper way to read the Bible in public schools. Catholics wanted the Bible passage explained whilst Prots wanted it unexplained. At least one person was killed over this.

Anything that can be modified to remove the words ‘under God’, whether it be taking an oath in court or taking the Pledge, should be replaced with ‘affirm’ or ‘swear’ or something similar. Good point. The Bellamy salute was taught to school children. Was later modified cause it happened to be the same as what we now call the Nazi salute. Of course, later, Eisenhower inserted the "under god" part. The "in god we trust" nonsense followed and replace the original motto "E pluribus unum". I am old enough to remember both. As an afterthought... I forgot to mention that the "in god we trust" is remarkably similar to the belt buckle motto of Nazi troops "Gott Mit Uns" which basically says the same sentiment.
