The GOOD news is that Walters is finally OUT of a position he never should have held in the first place. The BAD news is that now he wants to be a teachers' union buster. In Ryan's case, it more or less figures. This jerk is far less about actual teaching than he is about drawing attention to himself and apparently doing everything he can to disrupt the teaching process.
That said, I wouldn't take my eye off of him for an instant, and I'm sure Hemant WON'T.
I don't think Walters will ever run out of things he wants to destroy. His tenure as Oklahoma Superintendent has been a travesty. His sole interest when it comes to education is the indoctrination of children with his particular religion. I don't know how effective this new organization will be, but at least he won't be holding public office.
I'm very glad this asshole will no longer be in charge of OK schools, but I'm certain he's still going to do everything in his power to destroy those schools. What a horrible, horrible person.
Walters leaves his elected position after trying to destroy public education for a position where he can more directly attack teachers. Why? Because those teachers value education and if he can stop them from working g together, they become to weak to protect education.
Walters thinks the only education the children of Oklahoma should get is Sunday school lessons. If he can eliminate the teachers, then all that is left are the preachers.
“ When Walters resigns, it’ll mark not just the end of a disastrous tenure, but also a critical opportunity for Oklahoma to reclaim its public schools from the grip of ideological extremism. “
There is a reason that Oklahoma is #48 in education. I wonder what that reason might be?
I think it rhymes with ideological extremism. Possibly with religious fundamentalism, which is not at all about fun but mostly about being mental.
It's a critical opportunity, all right, one which they'll more than likely mishandle, at least so long as Stitt is governor. If Stitt didn't do anything substantial while Walters was playing Pied Piper of the Ten Commandments to Oklahoma school kids, I wouldn't bet on his being any more conscientious about Walters' successor.
And, of course, the people of Oklahoma will be the ones paying for his fumble.
Something about this makes me think he saw the writing on the wall. With loss after loss, it was only a matter of time before people started wondering what he was actually good for. You don't maintain such a highly polarized persona in a public position and not have someone dig up dirt on you somehow.
If indeed he was TOLD to resign, I would love to know just WHO did the telling and how that conversation went. Considering the untoward impact Walters has had on Oklahoma education, it's the kind of thing that parents of Sooner State school children might want to know about!
Reminds me of some of my employers who "suggested" a CEO and a department head resign "soon" (different employers). Translation: quit with a small amount of dignity intact or be fired and lose it entirely.
I think it's probably a double win. Not only is he not superintendent any more, but given his complete inability to expand the budget, increase teacher numbers, raise funds, or focus on any mission except his own self-aggrandizement 𝑑𝑢𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔 his tenure as superintendent, it seems likely to me that he'll just run this think tank into the ground. Assuming he even stays with it very long.
I don't know why we have a teacher shortage. Why don't these woke anti-American groomers work in our state. We promised to blame them for everything, make their work life hell, reduce their pay and benefits and take away any political power from them. What more do they want?
Voters will likely replace him with someone as bad or worse. Any teacher that votes against their own self interests (union representation) and the betterment of educational practices shouldn't be in that role in the first place.
I think the governor gets to appoint a temporary replacement, since this is mid-term. So it'll be a conservative for sure. But hopefully a fiscal one rather than an evangelical one.
WOOOHOOOO. We can only hope he is as competent as a CEO as he was as an education superintendent.
You left out "in" before competent. I guess that was not an accident.
Nope. I left it out to show sarcasm.

took 10 pieces from Hemant

He sure seems intent on destroying himself.
Very Trumpian behavior.
Dictator for a Day.

And a good Christian soldier.
Always looking for his next payday. Still dedicated to making Oklahoma schools (already ranked last) even worse.
I believe New Mexico holds that distinction, believe it or not.
It does.

That’s all I got.
You need a bigger mug of coffee.
On cup #2 as we speak. I wrote the comment while on cup #1.
A caffeinated i.v. drip.

I'm not going to hold my breath for this. After all, it is Oklahoma.
Where the wind goes whippin' through their brains.
(Though Seth Andrews is one of the good 'uns)
Agreed, it's Oklahoma, full of bat shit crazy MAGA Bible belt thumpers. It's a good bet Walters replacement will be worse. Only time will tell.
In God We Trust? 🤪
Happy to know I haven't been there.
👏👏👏 Ok, now I’ll read the piece. I hope never to see his face in this newsletter again.
Don't bet on that. Someone like Walters who so seems to want power and attention will do whatever he can to GET that power and attention.
To use a well-worn phrase: watch this space.
Oh he got promoted instead to CEO white-supremacist

He didn't resign.
Based on his lousy record, he was TOLD to "resign."
Hit the road, Jack, and don't come back...
Or, better:

The folks above him who heard about the dirty pictures. Even THAT these jerks cannot take.

Oh don't be so sure. I am sure he will be as dedicated and mission-focused to his new organization as he was to the old one.

Slavery from the teachers. Unlimited funds for jeezyboy.
Why won't conservatives work as teachers?
Conservatives don't trust education. Too much of it breeds liberals.
Education leads to a nuanced view of reality, i.e. something more like truth than the myths that conservatives live on.
Next thing they will demand free speech in their personal affairs that don’t use any school resources or time. Fukken elitists.
It's good news, but Oklahoma has a big barrel of assholes from which to choose a successor. It's an academic and intellectual sewage pond.
Voters will likely replace him with someone as bad or worse. Any teacher that votes against their own self interests (union representation) and the betterment of educational practices shouldn't be in that role in the first place.
"replace him with someone as bad or worse" Agreed, Oklahoma part of the bible belt full of MAGA cultist with their Christian nationalist.
What could possibly happen? 🤔

Bets on what Ryan gets caught doing in the near future?
Dead boy, live girl, farm animals, furries?
Dead furry girl farm animals.
Whilst I don’t approve,

Liked for “whilst”. One of my favorite words.
Hmmm...
Well he's now CEO of an evangelical not for profit, so I'll go with sexual harassment/assault of an employee.
Or misusing funds — which is what he actually is good at.
Witchcraft. Oh, wait. That's what religion is. Nevverr mind.
Golden showers like his Orange Idol.
Or maybe scat.
OOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH, kinky!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All of the above?
