A routine program welcoming girls from families of different faiths into the Girl Scouts has become the right’s latest imaginary indoctrination scandal
After all Trump has made it pretty obvious that ANYONE in America not pulling their own weight, either with productivity, paying taxes, extreme consumption, donations directly to Trump.....SOME means of "paying our way"....
....is taking money out of HIS (Trump's) pocket, and we're all "freeloaders" who are guilty of the worst of crimes, and therefore are all deserving of death. (Apparently even our own soc sec contributions fall into that same category of "Trump's money".)
I'm not joking. I expect America will begin seeing mass graves again early in the New Year, once the midterms are over. But they won't be graves of those who died while receiving care, as was generally the case with Covid.
These will be paupers graves of those receiving NO CARE. In other words, countless Americans dying of poverty, as our "leader" demands in this new version of HIS America.
We can only hope that Dems can act quickly enough, and that The Supremes won't have the same murderous intent toward America's citizens as Trump. And maybe MAGA will grow weary of suffering, as Trump continues to pocket billion$$$.
When you weigh the range of things in which it is possible to have faith, which is very large, against testable evidence which is all but nonexistent, whatever you believe is almost certainly wrong as a matter of probability.
Sounds like what they are promoting is for kids to learn more about their own religion (or others). In my mind, that's a good thing.
Trust the kids. Give the priests the microphone, let them explain their beliefs, and be optimistic that the response will most often be "yeah...hard pass on that."
OT: Lest we forget (we won't), the manufactured outrage from xtians is a deflection from this daily parade of pervs from their ranks.
"Ojai pastor, and self-appointed guardian of “traditional family values” — flooded his feed warning that “sick people” shouldn’t be “allowed to be around young impressionable minds.” He demanded “TOTAL EDUCATION REFORM,” raged about drag queens “grooming” kids, and called trans people a “steep slope” straight to societal collapse.
He’s been charged with six felony counts: four counts of lewd acts upon a child and two counts of continuous s*xual abuse, with special allegations of substantial s*xual conduct involving victims under 14.
Prosecutors say the alleged abuse of two children happened over several years, in Ojai and Oxnard, and that Johnson had access to them through a family relationship.
Investigators believe there may be additional victims and are asking anyone with information to call Ventura County Sheriff’s Detective Michael Loth at 805-384-4745.
Johnson’s Facebook is built around casting himself as a guardian against other people supposedly endangering kids.
In Nov 2022 he asked how “sick people” (LGBTQ people) are “even allowed to be around young impressionable minds,” demanding “TOTAL EDUCATION REFORM.”
In Sept 2019 he called a school’s gender-identity program “Sickening.”
In March 2023 he called a district hiding kids’ gender status from parents “the beginning of the end.”
Every time, the target was someone else — a school board member, a teacher, an LGBTQ program — never the pastors like himself who are getting arrested regularly for grooming and s*xually abusing children.
Not a drag queen. Not a trans person. Not a Muslim. Not a socialist. Not an immigrant."
But this one is fairly obvious. Constantly deflecting attention from himself and onto innocent other people. Like the homo hating homo that infest organized religion as badly as they do. Don’t look at me, look over there, they’re the problem.
Let's go, Satanic Temple! Time to gin up some badges. If the wingnuts are bound and determined to be outraged at something, give them what they deserve. Fatal head explosions.
Well, I started my day with a nice cuppa (dark roast German coffee from Aldi) and would have put a splash of Irish cream liquor but I was out. Oh well, settling for a spicy bloody Mary with brunch.
Here we go again, Christian fundamentalists running scared at the thought of, in this case, Girl Scouts learning about different religions and being rewarded with badges on their sashes for educating themselves in a belief system which isn't theirs. Oh, how horrible ... [MASSIVE FACEPALM!]. The snowflake factor here has gone off the scale, mostly because these [might as well call a spade a spade] Nat-Cs cannot conceive why anyone would want to know about Islam or maybe Mormonism or Hinduism, Buddhism, Shintoism, or Bahai ... or (GASP!) atheism!!! 😱
Someone get these idiots a Valium ... maybe two or three? I think they need it!
I’m become significantly convinced that to MAGA, Trump NEVER lies…to them.
I’m becoming convinced that the same lie about “affordability” heard by “libs” is something Trump tells in order to “bamboozle” the “wokes”, and the “libs”, and those Americans who spent their college years, not working, but instead "learning how to hate and attack Trump.”
But at the same time, I’m convinced that MAGA, willing as they are to sacrifice their elderly AND their youngest to Trump’s various “Own the Libs” pyres around the country, will trust every pearl of wisdom that drops from Trump’s lips, all the while laughing at us for simply not having even a basic understanding of Trump’s “strategy” at quite this level.
My experience in Girl Scouts and Scouting America, for myself and through my daughter, I guarantee you that this attack on the Girl Scouts has a singularly misogynist motive. Yeah, it’s xenophobic, but there are opportunities to learn about Islam in Scouting America, just the same as in Girl Scouts (though scouting America is ostensibly a Christian organization) that they aren’t complaining about. When Scouting America decided to allow girls there was immediate and severe. The conservative Christians attack any organization that attempts to support women in any manner, or provide education or opportunities for women and girls to be independent or successful. At this time we are facing a concerted effort to roll back basic civil and human rights for women, abortion access, healthcare research, no-fault divorce, workplace protections or access to employment, access to childcare, our voting rights are under attack through the SAVE act (also ostensibly a xenophobic move that somehow also harms women), and so much more. Oh, let’s not forget that a recent judicial decision that any woman working with the military (she was a civilian contractor, but the decision affects servicemembers as well) is expected to be raped, and if/when it does happen it’s a workman’s comp claim and not a criminal case. All of this is happening at once, and it won’t end until women are trapped in their homes and covered head to toe, so their complaints about burkas are only complaints that Islam is ahead of them on that step.
You should see the calls from men (probably a lot of bots, really) to repeal the 19th because one woman is accused of murdering her children. This didn’t happen with Yates, or Anthony, or other high profile cases of women committing familicide, it’s just right now, in this culture of concentrated attacks on women’s rights. Any excuse is enough to deny us our basic humanity.
I really think this is just a way to make a case to disband the Girl Scouts, as much as it is an attack on Muslims in the USA. These tweets and complaints are a perfect example of fear mongering, and DG should take note, because his disputed comments are far too similar to these to be able to claim he isn’t fear mongering.
They want to put blinders on kids, to keep them from growing or learning anything that might be contrary to their dogma. In that, they do their children a massive disservice. They want their children to be narrow and ill-educated, like they are.
I see this is nothing less than a massive tragedy which needs to be averted.
Can't see the GSA being in any trouble. Yes I fully agree with you that conservative evangelicals would probably like to see it (and any other organization empowering young girls or women) gone, but in this case the cookie enterprise is pretty much a lock on financial stability.
So, the people who are pushing for 'household voting' where the husband votes and his wife doesn't, the people pushing trad wifing on female college grads, the people screaming that the 19th Amendment should be overturned, the people who find female ministers an outrage, and on and on and on... want us to believe that their brand of christianity ISN'T suppressing women?? Oh pul-leeze! Pull the other one.
I really don’t have much to offer on this. I think Hemant is correct: more click bait outrage to feed the right wing click bait outrage machine so that it can keep shitting out click bait outrage.
Meanwhile, we have a convicted felon running things and this bothers them not in the slightest. Certain elements on the right would like to see women with no vote. Conservative religious churches and denominations continue to ignore if not actually cover up abuse by hundreds and hundreds of pastors and priests every year. We have a war going our school girls are murdered.
But it does lead one to an inevitable conclusion: RELIGION CAN POISON ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING.
While visiting Morocco our guide insisted that he take us inside the one mosque that permitted non-Muslims to enter (typically they do not). He stressed that he wished more mosques would allow this so that more Americans (probably meaning Christians) would better understand their values and not be frightened or have Islamophobia. It was…

Sad
I didn’t have the heart to tell him that most Americans aren’t interested in learning anything new or slightly challenging.
Most of the bigots don't leave their town, or state or the country and probably don't even have a passport.
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime.”—Mark Twain “Innocents Abroad,” 1869
When I was stationed in Germany there were families who lived in on-base housing, bought groceries at the commissary, shopped at the PX, never learned a word of Deutsch, and never set foot off of the little patch of USA that was the military base. Sad.
My dad who was in the navy during Vietnam (at 19 yrs old) traveled all over the world and likes to talk about all the places he visited (however briefly), yet somehow he came back from all of that and instantly became a Republican overnight (before that, his yearbook states most likely to pursue a career in the arts). He likes to tell a story of how protesters were spitting at him when he returned. This I absolutely despise, but I also think his memory is a bit off in terms of just how many people were really that vile, and how many just didn’t agree with the war. It’s quite sad actually, that his daughter was the one who actually got to pursue her dreams and career in the arts and not him.
As a field service engineer (now retired), I was lucky enough to travel to some amazing places. I've been to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem and the Taj Mahal in Agra, India, among multiple other wonderful sites. Those experiences enriched me in ways I may not be able to fully calculate, and I wouldn't trade them for ANYTHING.
Makes me wonder just what these people are afraid of, except that I suspect they fear the fragility of their foolish faith.
Oh interesting Natalie, I thought it was Christians taking away American women’s bodily autonomy, rights, and freedom? A bit of projection perhaps on her part.
"Nothing says Girl Scouts of AMERICA like learning the pillars of ISLAM..."
Do Christians want to play this game? Okay, I'll play:
"Nothing says the United States of AMERICA like recognizing and honoring an Israeli God" (Christmas as a government-mandated holiday, "under God" in The Pledge of Allegiance, "In God We Trust" as a national motto and on Americans' money).
Christians are the absolute LAST people on Earth to be squawking about "indoctrination."
Let them remove the boulders from their own eyes.
It's okay if they do it, because dearly held beliefs and stuff. /s
"Boulders" is the least of it. The way some of these people are going, I think we're talking about mountain ranges in their corneas!
Look at Texas. Friggin' mandated Ten Commandments posters in public schools.
Not just boulders in their eyes … what about the SH1T from their heads.
… 🦘🦘🦘
How be ye? :)
To add...
Oops! Comment deleted. Odd...
(Sorry. I didn't want to appear too personal.)
Not a problem at all. :)
Thank you, NoGodz.
That truly means a lot, as isolated as I've become as the last leaf on the last branch of this particular family tree.
My autistic tendencies can make it a bit challenging for me, so I don't want to go all creepy, as I have done before.
Meanwhile conservatives push repealing woman's suffrage, attack women's sports, and let women die in their states for religious reasons.
Fuck them.
Feels more like a smokescreen.
After all Trump has made it pretty obvious that ANYONE in America not pulling their own weight, either with productivity, paying taxes, extreme consumption, donations directly to Trump.....SOME means of "paying our way"....

My problem isn't scouting organizations trying to impose religion so much as their efforts to promote faith as a virtue.

When you weigh the range of things in which it is possible to have faith, which is very large, against testable evidence which is all but nonexistent, whatever you believe is almost certainly wrong as a matter of probability.
One very valid reason NOT to indulge in the foolishness of faith.

Rob Schneider complaining about "middle ages bullshit" is some next level hypocrisy.
Rob who?
Does he still even have a career in show business?
If he does, I haven't heard of anything worthwhile he has done.
When I combine "middle ages" and "Christianity", I ALWAYS fall back on my standard...
The Children's Crusades.
How odd that MAGA-Rob forgot to mention that....

Not an atheist.
Not LGBTQ+, either!
At this point, why would anyone trust religious leaders to be alone with their children?
Because most of them are still in denial about the problem of faith. That's why I had to cite Hitchens again elsewhere in the comments.
Let's go, Satanic Temple! Time to gin up some badges. If the wingnuts are bound and determined to be outraged at something, give them what they deserve. Fatal head explosions.
Why the hell not???
I posted my comment above before I saw yours about TST. Is it scary that we agree on something?
I know it's pretty early, but now it's time to start drinking. Heavily.
Start???
My Bud is green.
And it's not even March 17th!
Well, I started my day with a nice cuppa (dark roast German coffee from Aldi) and would have put a splash of Irish cream liquor but I was out. Oh well, settling for a spicy bloody Mary with brunch.
They don't even need to gin up new badges! Just take a Christian cross one and sew it on the sash upside down. :)

Not being honest? Xtians have a lot of gall to be uttering that.
Not being honest is their stock in trade. They want exclusive rights to that, to the point that they will lie about others being dishonest.

Christian conservatives don’t want Islam to oppress women, because they want to do it themselves.
Please. Women aren’t stupid, we see what is happening and we are not falling for it.
They see women as property, and if one converts to Islam, they think of it as theft of what's theirs.

And all this time I thought the song was about THONG control...
Probably that, too! 😝

They didn't even leave the base for sightseeing? To get decent beer and food? What the fuck is wrong with them?
They are afraid of anything outside their manufactured mental bubble.
That is just, plain SAD.
