When you weigh the range of things in which it is possible to have faith, which is very large, against testable evidence which is all but nonexistent, whatever you believe is almost certainly wrong as a matter of probability.
I wondered about that a few times. Kids from religious families already have plenty of opportunity (church, Sunday school, etc.) to learn about the virtue of faith. It's dealing with the world at large that they are often deficient in, and it's learning useful, practical things that will help them in adulthood that organizations like GSA offer.
Learning about other religions promotes tolerance and understanding, but being taught that faith is a necessary virtue? That faith alone determines one's morals? That's a distinction you point out well here, and I believe it would be much better to frame the issues of faith and religious beliefs as a choice, not a necessity.
How we decide, listed in order from highest to lowest level of reliability:
(1) Logic. At core, a syllogism has 2 explicitly stated premises (“if” statements) which are combined using rules of logic to produce a conclusion (a “then” statement). Everything else is built on this. Logic tells us absolutely nothing about the truth of the premises, but as processes go it’s absolutely cracker-jack — the most robust and reliable of them all.
(2) Reason. This is the standard used in law: “Under the circumstances, what would a reasonable person do?”. It’s similar to logic but is heavily larded with considerations of the practical.

(5) Chance. You usually don’t resort to chance unless you’ve reduced your alternatives down to 2 or 3 options, none of which is clearly better than any of the others. Your time might well be more efficiently spent making some sort of decision than in further dithering.
(6) Obedience. This is like a corrupted form of trust. You do what someone else tells you to, but for reasons of pressure, coercion, immaturity, feelings of inadequacy, low self-esteem, threat, etc., rather than a free-will decision.
(7) Hope. The evidence points toward a conclusion that we really don’t want, so we base our decisions — for no particularly good reason — on the hope that what we DO want will come true.
(8) Faith. Last and least is faith, the decision-making tool of last resort (and thus the one most favored by the priesthood). Faith is when you want to believe something but there’s not a shred of evidence for it and quite often lots of evidence against it. Whenever you have evidence to support a conclusion, you’d use one of the 7 previous decision-making methods and would have no hesitation in saying so. Faith gets hauled out only to support conclusions for which there is no reason to believe in their truth, validity, efficacy, or efficiency.
Sounds like what they are promoting is for kids to learn more about their own religion (or others). In my mind, that's a good thing.

My experience in Girl Scouts and Scouting America, for myself and through my daughter, I guarantee you that this attack on the Girl Scouts has a singularly misogynist motive. Yeah, it’s xenophobic, but there are opportunities to learn about Islam in Scouting America, just the same as in Girl Scouts (though scouting America is ostensibly a Christian organization) that they aren’t complaining about. When Scouting America decided to allow girls there was immediate and severe. The conservative Christians attack any organization that attempts to support women in any manner, or provide education or opportunities for women and girls to be independent or successful. At this time we are facing a concerted effort to roll back basic civil and human rights for women, abortion access, healthcare research, no-fault divorce, workplace protections or access to employment, access to childcare, our voting rights are under attack through the SAVE act (also ostensibly a xenophobic move that somehow also harms women), and so much more. Oh, let’s not forget that a recent judicial decision that any woman working with the military (she was a civilian contractor, but the decision affects servicemembers as well) is expected to be raped, and if/when it does happen it’s a workman’s comp claim and not a criminal case. All of this is happening at once, and it won’t end until women are trapped in their homes and covered head to toe, so their complaints about burkas are only complaints that Islam is ahead of them on that step.
You should see the calls from men (probably a lot of bots, really) to repeal the 19th because one woman is accused of murdering her children. This didn’t happen with Yates, or Anthony, or other high profile cases of women committing familicide, it’s just right now, in this culture of concentrated attacks on women’s rights. Any excuse is enough to deny us our basic humanity.
I really think this is just a way to make a case to disband the Girl Scouts, as much as it is an attack on Muslims in the USA. But at the same time, I’m convinced that MAGA, willing as they are to sacrifice their elderly AND their youngest to Trump’s various “Own the Libs” pyres around the country, will trust every pearl of wisdom that drops from Trump’s lips, all the while laughing at us for simply not having even a basic understanding of Trump’s “strategy” at quite this level.
Today's conservatives fundamentally misunderstand the role and purpose of government. Trump, Heritage etc. view it as some money-making private venture, when in fact the entire purpose is to collect and redistribute (i.e., *spend*) resources for the common good.

Conservative religious churches and denominations continue to ignore if not actually cover up abuse by hundreds and hundreds of pastors and priests every year.
