If prayer doesn't hurt anyone, then they should have absolutely no problem with him leading the prayer at the meetings, and using a Satanic prayer. As well as guaranteeing that no one would follow up with a Christian prayer.
This lawsuit should be a slam dunk. But it is Texas.
Well, don't look now ... but Texas has a FEMALE DEMOCRATIC GOVERNOR!!! Never mind a sharp young Democratic Senator! The times may well be a-changing in the Lone Star State!
Rights under our Constitution are not matters of majority rule. Rights are what protect the individual from the tyranny of the majority. This fact is generally lost on the evangelical crowd who see their particular set of fantasies as the solution to all the world's problems. Prayer not hurting anyone is highly debatable, but I would challenge the evangelicals to demonstrate that it actually works.
OT: as of this writing, the Democrats have a 10 seat majority in the House, with 𝘀𝗶𝘅𝘁𝘆-𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 races left to call. Abbott is out in Texas. Mississippi is too close to call with the Democrat leading the incumbent Republican senator by just over 2000 votes. In TN-01, Kristi Burke did not win, but helped move the needle 10 points towards the Democrats.
OT: My county ousted our long-time sheriff! He was running for his 6th term. He is right out of central casting for a bigoted, Southern sheriff from the 1950s. Beer gut. MAGA. Belongs to that right wing Constitutional Sheriff group.
Xtians are told in their own book to obey all earthly laws and authorities, yet time and again they give the middle finger to those laws and authorities.
If xtians can't be bothered to follow their religion then nobody else needs to.
Yeah, they do that with the constitution too. Freedom of religion means the freedom to choose your preferred sect of Christianity, not to choose your religion or not to have religion. The whole constitution is God ordained and the founders didn’t mention god because reasons. And the mentions of religion at all are preceded by the word no means Christianity is the state religion because I said so that’s why. And didn’t you see the date at the top, it says in the year of our lord blah blah blah.
That fundie needs a refresher course in reading comprehension. That scripture makes no mention of earthly government being godly. Only that YHVH placed those authorities in power himself.
And at the time those words were said, were not xtians living under the thumb of Rome and their gods?
(sorry for the delay in replying. my laptop "got stuck"
We have — or had a large, annual family reunion where I have been asked to lead the invocatory prayer before the meal.
We have an assortment of people in this reunion: from evangelical, MAGA Christian Nationalists, to progressive Christians, to people in the recovery community who define the “Higher Power” for themselves, to freethinkers, agnostics and atheists, and more recently, pagans and Wiccans.
When I do the invocatory prayer, I am very, very careful to avoid making it an explicitly Christian prayer, and to make the invocation as generic as possible.
The MAGA, Christian Nationalist contingent of my family, which had been nascent, finally took over the reunion and attendance has plummeted. We now have maybe ten to 15 percent of the number of people who used to attend.
The invocatory prayer now praises Donald Trump as “the greatest of all of them”, proclaims Charlie Kirk as a saint, and includes an ending statement where it is hoped that we (the progressives and non-Christians) will all see the error of our ways and turn our hearts towards Trump and MAGA.
The progressives, the recovering people, and the non-Christians have given notice to the reunion steering committee that we are no longer participating in the reunion. This will likely end the reunion, unless we decide to have our own and exclude the MAGA and the Christian Nationalists (who have become really haughty and really overbearing).
I so agree with this teacher. Private prayer is one thing. Forced, evangelical Christian prayer is incredibly offensive to non-evangelical Christians and non-Christians. The superintendent should have had the awareness to realize this; but like most Christian Nationalists the superintendent is absolutely clueless as to how he comes across.
I hope that teacher wins enough money in this lawsuit to retire comfortably— at a young age (if he chooses to do so).
Without a doubt, there will be excuses about what happened yesterday and the categorical rejection of Trumpism, represented by elections in multiple states. People like that tend to deny what they don't like. But the problem is:
I’m sure the Wingnutz will be very upset about this, because they no longer have the control that they wanted. And that’s the point: they see it as a question of politics. Sane people see it as a question of religion fornicating with politics. And decent people see it as a question of values.
If prayer doesn't hurt anyone in public schools, then xtians should have no problems with Muslim students pulling out their prayer rugs and facing Mecca several times during the school day, right?
I was feeling pretty good when I woke up this morning. Even a little optimistic. Then Hemant hits us with the same old shit that should have been settled decades ago. Pray all you want at home. Leave it out of public schools.
OT: So excited for Georgia, Texas, and beyond! Seeing Georgia go blue brings tears to my eyes. Wins in the South thanks again to Black people (especially Black women) for showing up as they always do for the rest of us ✨
I want to know what he has to say to an atheist who has seen through the baloney and the lies of the bible and has no use whatsoever for any religion or holy book. I want to know if he can face up to the fact that more and more people are leaving religion because they DO NOT experience any "need" of a god, but want a better relationship with REALITY.
I doubt it'll ever happen, but it damned well SHOULD.
From when I was a little kid, the priests and nuns told me to listen to the quiet voice of god in my heart. And I tried over and over for year upon year. Do you know what I heard? Silence. And thus another atheist was born.

Dems flipped the Texas House and also won the Lt. Guv. The Lt. Gov is powerful in Texas. Kinda like being House Speaker in Congress.
Maybe that 10C shit can be reversed.
A female 𝘓𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘢 Democratic Governor. The sounds of racist MAGA heads exploding in Texas must be gloriously deafening.
Glad I wore earplugs! 😁 💥💥💥
Texas also now as a MAJORITY DEMOCRAT SUPREME COURT!
As if I wasn’t already gobsmacked:

To borrow from Yosemite Sam: "GREAT JUMPIN' HORNY TOADS!!!"
Oh, MAMA! The implications of THAT are just ENORMOUS! 🥳🥳🥳

What a dynamite, mid-term election this is turning out to be!!

Trump sowed the wind. Welcome to the whirlwind, Donnie! 😝
To me, this seems like flashing strangers.
You're forcing something deeply personal on others without their consent.
It's not sharing. Sharing requires consent. Sharing offers someone the chance to say, "No, thank you," and a choice to respect their decision.
This is gross and they ought to be ashamed.

Good riddance!
Is his name Buford?
... T. Justice? And does he look an awful lot like Jackie Gleason? 😏

With Abbott & Paxton gone, might be that Texas can get down to respecting everyone & not just Christian nationalists.
"prayer doesn't hurt anyone"
"If the gods listened to the prayers of men, all humankind would quickly perish since they constantly pray for many evils to befall one another."

There is a fundie at CP this morning insisting that applies only when the earthly government is godly.
The Romans were godly. The Greeks were godly. The Egyptians were godly. Back then almost everyone had a god(s).
And many of them even had followers with iron chariots, unlike 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺!
They want godly, they need Ryan Reynolds.
And the bible says that WHERE, exactly??? [Damn, sometimes it just floors me when Christians pull stuff like this out of their tailbones!]
You have to read with “discernment”!
(The blatant hypocrisy is part of the attraction of CP for me.)
The same fundie is also going on this morning about Obama establishing Muslim communities “all over the place” that are in secret locations.
Yeah, they do that with the constitution too. Freedom of religion means the freedom to choose your preferred sect of Christianity, not to choose your religion or not to have religion. They just hear what they wanna hear.
In other words, you have to "interpret" it to suit a given agenda. Same old horse manure, just a different venue.
!!! Oh for fuck's sake.

Your comment makes we wonder if you and I are in the same family. Kidding!
There are none so self-righteous as Evangelical Christians.
If prayer doesn't hurt anyone in public schools, then xtians should have no problems with Muslim students pulling out their prayer rugs and facing Mecca several times during the school day, right?
Not just the Muslim students but ALL the students should pray toward Mecca. Won’t hurt anyone, right?
That's how you get them to remember what the Establishment Clause means.
Thank you Castillo for standing up for what is right. We need more folks like you in all areas of our government.
Proud to represent one of our members as he fights for his rights.
You can be one too, and help power our legal work to fight Christian Nationalism:

Don't forget Ohio! We kicked Vivek Ramaswamy's ASS and showed Jon Husted the door! Lots more blue victories down-ballot as well!
Man, did we need THIS! [yeah ... we did!]
Now Donnie can stare at Husted's posterior all day long.
YES!!! so proud of you Ohio! Kicking trash to the curb.
This shit is frightening to me:

Sneaky sneaky. Catholics are doing what they do by playing the long game and throwing former allies aside.

I hope you heard lub-dub, lub-dub, lub-dub .....
Forcing people to become Christian does not make people want to become Christian!
2000 years and they haven’t learned a damn thing about marketing.
Or reading the room!
