Child "beauty pageants" are just creepy. It would be one thing if they would let them be pretty little girls, but they try to apply the standards of beauty that apply to grown women (which are very sexual) If you think a little girl has sex appeal, there is something very wrong with you.

O/T: Pastor 'shoots his wife in front of their kids before turning the gun on himself' after haunting final Facebook post: 'I may not be a perfect man, but I’ll always be a family man'

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12223355/Louisiana-pastor-shoots-wife-kids-turning-gun-police-say.html

"There was a time decades ago if you had trouble feeding your family or if you had lost your job, neighbors would come over with casseroles and they would offer emotional support. Many people don't know their neighbors these days."

More longing for a fantasy. Neighbors only came over if you were 'the right sort' and 'deserved' help. For some reason, it is very much a part of the U.S. zeitgeist that people must be judged and deemed 'worthy' of help. Churches, neighborhoods, communities, the outsider never got help.

I don't really buy the claim that people are more isolated now than they used to be. I think it goes more to the 'perfect family' phenomena on social media. You're bombarded with these trouble-free versions of people's lives and you begin to think their lives are really like that and there's something wrong with you that yours isn't.

How do you do lamb? I bounce between mint jelly (I have a surplus of mint) and tzatziki sauce (because garlic), generally Mediterranean herbs & garlic, rare bigly.

Sounds like we do similar things. I also have a ton of mint. Garlic, of course. Rosemary. I like to butterfly legs of lamb. I recently did rack of lamb for the first time in my life with an “English” mint sauce. It was wonderful. I used to grill a lot but for the last few years I’ve done more with my stovetop Cameron smoker. My 23 year old son said, “That stovetop smoker has been a real game changer.”

I have a ridiculous garden. Approximately 40 heads of garlic are growing. I harvest 3-4 pounds of lettuce every week. I have 25 pepper plants, a similar number of tomato plants. Maybe 100 potato plants that I hope will give me ~80 pounds of taters. I got 2 pounds of asparagus a week for 2 months this spring. Tomatillos, butternut squash, cukes, rhubarb, onions, a basil forest, and around 50 milkweed for the monarchs.

I supply produce to a lot of friends. One neighbor says I keep everyone in gazpacho all summer long.
