It’s not that atheists can’t be Republicans, but there’s something about an atheist group trying to appeal to MAGA-cultist, science-denying, Christian Nationalist brand Republicans that seems like an obvious waste of energy. That’s partly because the group’s stated goal is to find new members, not change the minds of the attendees.
The #atheists are here at @TPUSA #sas2020! Find us at booth 18! From left to right: @MrAtheistPants @justinvacula @sheedythom @michaeltrollan @JoshSherwood #atheism #atheist #liberty #freedom #conservative #libertarian #tpusa #turningpointusaAs Seth Andrews said, it’s “the equivalent of selling globes at a flat earth convention.” I would take issue with that, though. This group isn’t selling the equivalent of globes.
An Atlanta megachurch pastor has tested positive for COVID a week after attending a mostly maskless White House Christmas party.
Did he catch the virus at the party? We don’t know.
Is it out of the question? Not at all.Los Angeles County, California is allowing in-person church services again, just in time for Christmas— the most popular day of the year to go to church. It’s a bewildering decision, considering L.A. is completely out of ICU beds… but “religious freedom” wins again.
Christian singer Lauren Daigle doesn’t understand why her negligent promotion of a deadly virus at a super-spreader worship concert was grounds to pull her from performing on “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” show. She called the attacks on her political and said she’s “saddened by the divisive agendas of these times.” Last we checked, COVID is a bipartisan killer.
Pat Robertson has made it to the 5th stage of the grief cycle: acceptance.
Robert Henderson, however, is perpetually in a melodramatic stage 1.
The Gospel Coalition writer Michael Horton thinks he’s better than Christian Trumpers, even though most of the writers at TGC are Christian Trumpers. That little fact goes unmentioned in his article.
Finally, to anyone who says atheists shouldn’t be political…
The global #atheist movement should remain focused on its core goals: 1. Normalizing atheism 2. Promoting #secularism 3. Promoting #science 4. Helping atheists at risk (predominantly #ExMuslim atheists) Don't get distracted by irrelevant politics. Keep your eye on the goals.Remember this: Politics affects every single issue on that list. Supporting the current Republican Party means opposing science and church/state separation while promoting Christian Nationalism and religious privilege.
