Not sure how to feel about his loss, but it appears he was a definite step up from the woman who will replace him with guns and Jesus. It is completely lost on the people who see religion as the solution to all the world's problems, that this massively screwed up world is to no small extent, the work-product of believers.

There are some Republicans with whom Democrats can work with to find solutions to the solvable problems. Unfortunately their ranks keep diminishing with the rise of the Trumpublicans. As was stated in the article, there are many "safe" districts (for both parties) where winning the primary is tantamount to winning the general, and primaries only bring out a fraction of the electorate - the passionate cray-cray fringes are heavily overrepresented.

And here we are. I'm wondering just how "civil" the next war will be.....?

This guy is an actual conservative. This article shows more than any other how the Republican party is not the conservative party. They are the party of fascist theocrats. It's not just about the religion either. It's also about the anti-government parts. He talks about filling potholes and education. The modern Republican party would turn the pot hole filling over to a private company so one member can get a kick back while convincing voters that it will be somehow cheaper. The modern Republican party tears down education because it is afraid of an educated population. The modern Republican party is so far to the 'right' that actual conservatives look like left-wing, LGBT-loving, RINOs. I agree with the RINO part only because the Republican army has left conservatism behind.

This guy is an actual conservative.

I agree that Schroeder's estimate that the MAGA "only" makes up 30% of the Republican party. But even if we were to accept that figure as accurate, HOW DOES THAT MAKE THEM FRINGE??? A group that makes up nearly one third of your party has grown well beyond "fringe." I mean, how many blankets have YOU seen where thirty percent of it is just fringe?

I think Schroeder may need to engage in some honest reflection on that one.

Geoff Schroeder is that rarity: a Republican who actually CARES about his office, what he does with it, and the critical issues he is confronted with. It is eminently clear that he fully appreciates the dynamics of Idaho's politics and has worked within them to accomplish something positive. That all by itself is worthy of praise.

And now Idahoans have voted him out ... and the state will be the less for his absence.

I'd argue that if he really cared about his office, he'd not have held a second job that on more than one occasion prevented him from doing his first one by actually being present for votes on bills that affected millions of people's lives.

I mean, yeah, he was definitely better than the lunatic replacing him... but when you're a legislator, 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 a legislator needs to be your top priority. If it couldn't be, then he had no business holding office in the first place.

Texas is *supposed* to only meet every other year and doesn't pay enough to be your only job.

Salary. State legislators in Texas make $600 per month or $7,200 per year, plus a per diem set by the Ethics Commission in Rule 50.1. The per diem in the 2021-2022 biennium was $221 for every day the Legislature is in session (regular or special).

Edit: Assuming they work a full year at 40 hrs/week 52 weeks a year that $64670. Not impossible, but they don't work that much really, and don't apparently get paid time off.

More proof that the GQP is a terminal case, and that the rot is worsening every election cycle at every level.

When Hemant first posted the interview with Mr. Schroeder, I had this to say about him: "𝘐'𝘮 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘭 𝘧𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘖𝘗, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘩𝘦'𝘴 𝘢 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘺 𝘵𝘦𝘱𝘪𝘥 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘪𝘵." Turns out, even tepid opposition is a bridge too far in the modern GQP. They won't tolerate a moderate conservative anymore- only balls-out, full-throttle crazy will satisfy them.

I'm sorry the leopards ate your face, Mr. Schroeder.

She's a Christian? She seems to ignore Jesus' words about helping people who are ill. She's also keen on raising the retirement age to receive Social Security. Guess she views older Americans as moochers. Maybe she should put down that violin she regularly plays at Antioch Christian Church. Her "devotion" to her messiah is a mockery.

She's also a ginormous hypocrite. Her hubby's company got $143,043 in PPP loans that were subsequently forgiven, yet she is AGAINST student loan forgiveness.

Senator Geoff Schroeder is most certainly welcome to the Democratic party. He does not have to be somebody he's not there. I get that living in his part of Idaho he had to more or less be Republican. One good Republican! If he chooses to move Massachusetts would definitely welcome him. We need more Atheists in both parties. In all parties. Separation of Church and State is still the right choice in my eyes. Still plenty wrong with it but the only way to move forward.

No- he needs to go find some more of his fellow moderate conservatives and form a new conservative party, to replace the Republican party when it collapses under the weight of its own stupidity (assuming it doesn't manage to drag the entire country down with it). The 𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘵 thing the Democratic party needs is yet another conservative in their ranks; they're already solidly right of center by the standards of any other functioning democracy.
