Cue the religious right to scream persecution! "How dare anyone question what we're doing because we've been divinely sanctioned by Jesus himself!" On the one hand I have some sympathy for the people who get taken to the cleaners by organizations like this, but it also begs the question of why did they ever trust something like this in the first place when religious scams abound and mega-church preacher-grifters steal money by the boatload?

I love it. Doubtless that they WILL scream bloody murder for being forced to actually DO what they are supposed to: SERVE THEIR CUSTOMERS!

It's getting so an indecent religious conman can't run an indecent scam anymore! 🤪

There's a quote: "Did you ever expect a corporation to have a conscience, when it has no soul to be damned, and no body to be kicked?"

Corporations are legal shields to protect the shareholders and the board against the worst possible outcomes. They have to be extremely egregious in order to suffer consequences. It seems they'll mostly suffer from committing fiduciary malfeasance than killing customers. It's the rich that make the laws, after all, and they don't like to be fucked over.

Because it's cheaper than the real McCoy (a doctor who was willing to risk the space-time continuum to spare an old woman dialysis) and they're conditioned to believe Christian = honest. And of course that their money won't be helping "immoral" people do "immoral" things. The last is the only one I can blame them for (and maybe a lack of diligence, but then how many of us really check out the people we do business with)

So the state of Oregon is going to hold these HCSMs to account? EXCELLENT! It is entirely past time that such organizations had their proverbial feet held to the fire. We've seen too many stories about church-run businesses being allowed to do whatever they pleased and get off scot-free. This story tells me that SOMEONE has noticed, certainly in the person of Representative Nosse, and my hat's off to him!

Let's hope that 1) this passes and 2) it's the start of a trend!

Which of the several 'Jesi' described in the bible does one pick? Celestial Jesus in the epistles, tormented Jesus in Mark, Rabbi Jesus in Matthew, the Jesus in Luke who is tranquilly awaiting his passion and glory, or Jesus-God in John? And of course there is the after-thought Jesus in Acts and Hallucination-Jesus in Revelation. It is like a cafeteria of Jesi.

It makes total sense as a religious doctrine created by committee. We have factions in the "decides on cannon" committee supporting two somewhat contradictory scriptures, and they are fighting with each other? Propose to put both in - both groups will vote for that.

The OT looks like it had a similar construction. Multiple different versions of the same story or same verses. You get the sense multiple tribes or Rabbis made sure their favorite versions got in.

In the video (linked below) former NFL player Chris Kluwe speaks out against the current Trump-Musk regime. If this protest is genuine then Kluwe is a bona fide hero for his moral integrity and courage to speak out against a looming dystopia. At the podium Kluwe likens MAGA patriotism to Nazism and is promptly arrested by police - proving his point.

A cynic might question whether this is simply another Government controlled opposition stunt designed to frighten future would-be resistance activists. Either way, Western society must realise by now that human rights lawyers are useless and that the proposed Handmaid's Tale future dressed as Jesus's love is just another variant of common-or-garden jackboot fascism.

Why should Christian health insurance be any different than the Christian religion? There is the real question. Both sell a product that may or may not exist. Christian religion tells you to pray and pay, Christian health insurance tells you to pay and pray. Both are allegedly there when you need them, but then, both are selling a product that may or may not exist, and both will happily take your money. Both tell you you’re better than other people, except for those people, because you’re not better than them if you are one of them.

As we’ve already learned many times, those pushing the Bible aren’t any more moral than those who are not pushing the Bible. You would almost wonder why any Christian organization at all needs any kind of regulation from anyone, seeing how moral they are because they read their ancient book of wonders.

Pay no attention to that man behind the altar boy! Pay no attention to that man with his hands in your pocket.
