Ryan Walters is a dangerous fool on a crusade to destroy public education in his state, all of it justified by his religion. Oklahoma ranks near the bottom in public education, and everything Walters is advocating will only make things worse. It is NEVER the job of the public schools to backstop Christianity.

Y'know, I probably had less religion thrown at me in 13 years of Catholic school than some public schools are trying to promote today. . Amusingly, I was taught enough critical thinking that when I had to take Apologetics in high school, the arguments never convinced me, though I mouthed back the wanted answers and complied in tests. Didn't want a failing grade on my record!

It would seem as though Oklahoma is not without some semblance of common sense as regards dealing with religion in schools. The 5-2 decision by the state supreme court is a pretty strong statement that Walters has once again overstepped the boundaries of State / Church separation with his attempts to inject the bible into Oklahoma school curricula. Clearly and emphatically good news.

My only question would be: why wasn't it a 7-0 ruling?

A bridge too far or a bridge not far enough? 🤔

Anyway, this infatuated need to register, regulate, legally implement, make law, etc, etc, should be for survival of the fittest & take place no prisoners exploit what and who you can, unregulated capitalism which is destroying minds and the social fabric and democracy of the US. It's this that's causing the youth to feel despondent and lacking hope because it's being held up as virtuous and mixed with 'Christianity' to the extent that many cannot tell the difference or why paradoxically on one hand it's ambition at the expense of others and getting more things while waving a flag that is important. While on the other hand, usually hidden behind the back, its material & social contentment and humility and foot washing plus mutural respect for others that's supposed to matter most. 😕

“the court "is embarrassing and clearly is out of step with Oklahomans."”

That is what the court is supposed to do. It’s not supposed to change with the wind, reflect the people, but it is supposed to follow the laws laid out by the USA constitution and the Oklahoma constitution. The majority (which I think even claiming the majority of Oklahomans support your stupid standards is spurious, at best) does not get to define the minority’s rights. The Supreme Court should not be making decisions, nor should legislatures for that matter, based on the whims of the loudest bigots of the time. There’s no way to run a state or country by changing laws Willy nilly like that.

Die mad about it, you sadistic scumbag.

Joe King's avatar

Hey Walters! Maybe you should consider the idea that everything you try to do to force Christianity into the schools being blocked by the courts isn't persecution or anti-Christian hatred. Maybe you should consider the fact that forcing Christianity is wrong.

That would required introspection, self reflection, and being honest with yourself, all things that are a sin according to religion. Religion requires it followers to have ignorance, unquestioning faith, blind obedience (to the clergy and their leaders) and get/keep adherents at all cost (preaching, indoctrination, and by the threat of violence or actual violence).

Among other things. His overarching anger comes from the fact that he isn't getting a rubber stamp from them the way his lord and savior Der OrangeFührer does. Rowe, Winchester, Darby, Kane, Kuehn, Jett

3 by a Democratic one : Edmondson, Combs, Gurich.

This is the Oklahoma supreme court. It deals with matters of Oklahoma state law. If other states have different state laws, different things will be legal.

However, I personally think it's more likely that you're just spouting baloney on this point. I'm sure some private Christian publications do what you claim, but that's not "other states."

"𝐶ℎ𝑟𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑡𝑦, 𝐴𝑚𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝑒𝑥𝑐𝑒𝑝𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑠𝑚, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑠𝑒𝑟𝑣𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝑣𝑎𝑙𝑢𝑒𝑠 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑢𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑟 𝑎𝑡𝑡𝑎𝑐𝑘 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑂𝑘𝑙𝑎ℎ𝑜𝑚𝑎 𝑆𝑢𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑚𝑒 𝐶𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑑𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑎𝑠𝑠𝑎𝑢𝑙𝑡

This is the history standards. Teaching Christianity per se and teaching conservative values are not relevant. American exceptionalism should be taught as one view of history amongst several. Like how we teach how the doctrine of manifest destiny influenced 1800s U.S. expansion policy. It is totally fine in a history class to teach "some people believe in American exceptionalism, and during our history that belief has led to these actions." But it is simply not a part of a history class to demand "all of you students ought to believe in American exceptionalism."
