MAGA is weird. Trump doesn't even go to church and sells fake bibles! 🤣

Trump and Church is an oxymoron. Trump would sell anything if he could make a quick buck off of it. Him grifting Bibles made in China for $3 dollars and selling them for $60 dollars isn’t a suprise.

He says 'America First,' but his Bibles, clothing line, and sneakers are all made in China. He doesn’t support American workers. Kamala’s plan will strengthen the middle class and create more opportunities for entrepreneurship. A future where everyone can thrive! VOTE for a new way forward!

Can't wait to celebrate Harris/Walz epic victory wearing this great rainbow flag "We the People means EVERYONE" shirt on November 5th 👇

You know what – for all conservatives and others for that matter criticism of it – I suspect it will be identity politics that gets Harris and Walz over the line. Just as it got women the right to vote, and helped put paid to Jim Crow laws.

I think the phrase "identity politics" is a very stupid phrase generally used to indicate that some (not you personally) don't understand the fact that people tend to vote for, or against, things that will negatively affect their lives. Do they think women or POC are going to vote against themselves? As a woman voting against fuckery that curtails me and/or others rights is just common sense.

Walters should be held personally liable for this lawsuit, since it was his idea to put forward a solution in search of a problem. One thing secular Bible scholars make clear is that the book is NOT history. There is virtually no independent corroboration for any part of it. None what so ever for the Jesus story. I will never accept the idea the genuine word of God would be subject to never-ending debate. Particularly in light of the horrific consequences of that debate. The Thirty Years War comes to mind.

Total agreement. A great deal of these issues should be utterly squelched by making the defendants PERSONALLY LIABLE for any monetary penalty. Indeed, that would make for a serious and possibly very effective deterrent.

Sadly, Walters will almost certainly arrange for the school board or the state government to pay his fines ... and he'll just keep on keepin' on. 😝

I have read that a lot of Republicans in the legislature are getting fed up with him. They may agree with him, but they know his antics are going to result in lawsuits the state cannot win.

An Oklahoma news program that truly is bipartisan, respectful, and good to watch. It has the moderator, a fiery old democrat, and pretty level headed Republican (he doesn't defend Trump). It airs for 30 minutes every Sunday morning.

I don’t know - we’ve had a fun time debating exactly what was meant by biblical sections. Got two Talmud books about it, and my kids’ interpretation and discussion was an important part of their bar mitzvot. A big part of our faith is taking the “historically accurate” stuff (you know, in the original Hebrew or Aramaic) and debating what it means for modern life.

Expand full comment
oraxx's avatar

This is where I have a problem because I simply cannot accept the idea the word of God would ever be subject to debate. I’m unimpressed by ancient writings where it involves human interaction with God, because there is simply no independent corroboration for any of it.

I don’t think HaShem would create us with free will and then get surprised that we’re going to argue the details. Like, remember to keep holy the sabbath day - but also, there’s an exception, because if you need to do work to save somebody’s life or health, then you do it. Life and living is messy, and culture and words change meaning over time.

I mean, read Shakespeare and look at the “translation” of what the phrases mean in a cultural context of the time. And then take that through translations and such - so the holy words, written 3,000 years ago, don’t mean the same thing as they used to mean.

"2.6 The supplier's Bible must not contain . . . additional commentary"

Sorry, the Trump Bible doesn't qualify. It contains the lyrics to that stupid song (its original raison d'etre before it transitioned to Trumpdom) which arguably qualifies as "additional commentary" and renders it unsuitable for Oklahoma's requirements. Better haul out the Sharpie and get to changing that request again, doof.

He actually didn't, though (try to be historically accurate).

He ordered his translators to follow the translation of a 1568 English version of bible as much as possible, not any other or older source material. He also told them to use the vulgar (i.e. commonly used in England at the time) names for biblical authors, figures, and saints, rather than going back to source material.

So, don't blame this idiocy on him. ;)

The generosity of "Christian's charity"

"36 mega Christian Churches in Alabama, but it was and Native American Cascino that step up and offered to pay for all the funerals of those who died in a tornado."

I know this is not the subject, but it is about how church money (donations) are not being well spent by Christians.
