Huh.

I mean... you REALLY want to explain to children that grandpa lingered in horrific pain and agony for years before mercifully dying because a woman ate an apple?

And you think that makes your god look good?

Lynn Veit's avatar

The point is - everything, everywhere, all at once, is Eve's fault, and by extension the fault of women everywhere with our sinful, lusting natures compromising the more righteous and divine natures of our male overlords. Telling children these things is designed to make women, not God, the villain of the piece. God has this Wonderful Plan (TM) for everyone's life, but some woman, somewhere is always going to fuck it up.

"God created a beautiful garden that was the glory of the world that He created for us. We were meant to live in paradise, but Eve threw all that away for us when she listened to Satan instead of God, blah blah blah." (paraphrased from literally scores of sermons I heard growing up)

Demonize women and say it comes straight from God, and voila! You justify your unbridled misogyny.

Val Uptuous NotAgain's avatar

But women were only even made to slake Adam’s lust. He wasn’t happy boffing the animals in the garden so he begged God for a mate like him. It is Adam’s fault for not sucking it up with the animals.

Lynn Veit's avatar

😂🤣😂

Now, how do I get that image out of my head before I have to go to work….

Black Hole and DM mourner's avatar

Too late, you are one of us now.

cdbunch's avatar

They were too rough when sucking him off and sometimes they bit.

Well, tequila is imported from Mexico...

cdbunch's avatar

Nah, it's just backordered until 2027.

Lynn Veit's avatar

Oh shit, I didn't think about that.

Like rednecks in the bible-belt, they (rednecks) have more carnal knowledge with barnyard animals than they (rednecks) have knowledge about their holy book.

Bensnewlogin's avatar

True story.

About 40 years ago, my boyfriend and I threw a dinner. One of our friends wanted to bring his new boyfriend, a nice farm boy looking sort of a guy. I don’t remember what the topic of conversation was at all, but whatever we were discussing, I commented that the person they were talking about probably did something unattractive to a sheep.

Our friend cracked up, and his new boyfriend turned extremely bright red. If everyone didn’t know before then, they certainly knew then.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

Well that's because with the critters, they have way more practice.

Zizzer-Zazzer-Zuzz's avatar

Of course not, that would be silly.

The bible never says it's an apple.

larry parker's avatar

It also never says it's not an apple.

1st. Fuck off.

2nd. It was a joke.

3rd. Apples have been domesticated for 10,000. Older than biblical times (which is fiction).

4th. There is no evidence of a world wide flood as described in the bible.

5th. Your Jewish friends are wrong about the flood, too.

6th. Your last sentence is the only thing you got right.

7th. Fuck off.

JoyLynn's avatar

The Bible says it was the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. That's why they're so against education. And why they seem to have gotten them (good and evil) reversed.

oraxx's avatar

Fascinating how creationists dismiss evolution as 'Just a theory', while claiming everything is the work of a Creator whose existence cannot be demonstrated to exist. To make matters worse, these people speak with no consistent voice. Attempting to force religion into the public schools should be classified as a felony with heavy fines and serious jail time attached.

Good to hear. He accused me of gender theology, what ever the hell that is.

Black Hole and DM mourner's avatar

Did a lot of people play with him ? I blocked him after I told him what I thought of his mansplaining and took a couple of screenshots for remembrance.

larry parker's avatar

I tried. A comment telling him he was wrong and a link to a source. Never heard back. Funny that.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Val laid it on him HARD, but again, he was pretty much of the "LA-LA-LA-LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" school of debate.

So I wrote Hemant and let him know.

Black Hole and DM mourner's avatar

The co-Queen Val* ? I need to see this.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Yeah, Val Uptuous ... who knows her stuff and ain't shy about laying down the hard facts.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

❤️I followed Joan here and that's how I found this substack.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Back when he first showed up here (and that's at least a couple weeks ago), I jousted with him a little bit, but it was clear that he was transmitting but not receiving. Then, when I saw him laying down the same stupid shit this morning, I decided to let Hemant know, and he was good enough to drop the banhammer on Scarry.

Joe King's avatar

I saw he replied to one of my comments. I did not engage, just waited for him to fuck off. I guess he didn't fuck off properly before the hammer fell. The idiot claimed I was the misogynist.

I did read the comments. I was replying to him as he replied to other posts, mostly with memes and derision.

Just as well the trans-haters have nothing worthwhile to contribute to any intelligent conversation.

Now that rural trump voting communities are feeling the pain, no more owning the libs. They can't even afford to rent the libs.

JoyLynn's avatar

Thanks. I couldn't figure out what "rent the libs" meant when I saw it elsewhere.

Val Uptuous NotAgain's avatar

You know good and well that if we did teach critical thinking, their little fairy tale would not hold up to children’s inquiries. Critical thinking and Christian dogma are mutually exclusive ideas. Christian dogma suffocates thinking, critical or otherwise.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Which is precisely why they try to inveigle themselves into public school curricula ... and why they're repeatedly getting SPANKED for trying!

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

That is the only corporeal punishment I want to see in schools!

Bagat's avatar

Feligion is always about control. It is all about dictatorship under some god . Most earthly dictators see themselves as gods.

Bensnewlogin's avatar

“ and how sickness, disease, pain, suffering, and death are a consequence imposed by the Creator of complex living organisms.”

That isn’t critical thinking, that is precisely the opposite of critical thinking. But of course, we know that.

But then, there are the wall builders. “The importance of morality and religion in government.” if it was important to Christians, they would not be voting for Donald Trump, a couch fucker, a drunk, a whore, a copresident whose has fathered umpteen children by umpteen women he isn’t married to, billionaires, and so on.

Black Hole and DM mourner's avatar

Dian Cecht, Sekhmet, Asclepios, can you send some divine punishment to the morons who practice medecine without a license, or even a basic comprehension of how science works ? Merci d'avance.

Joe King's avatar

I could fix this bill really quickly.

"To advance critical thinking skills in history and science, a school district must provide instruction to students in grades 9 to 12 exploring the scientific facts on how sickness, disease, pain, suffering, and death happen."

Still somewhat awkward in the wording, but doesn't outright deny the science and doesn't mandate teaching a supernatural link between science and a creator.

Black Hole and DM mourner's avatar

Still somehow philosophical. May I ?

"To advance critical thinking skills in history and science, a school district must provide fact checked and proven instruction to students in grades 9 to 12 exploring how sickness, disease, pain, suffering, and death impact humans."

Black Hole and DM mourner's avatar

My two preferred subjects in school were history (you know already), and biology.

Donrox's avatar

And yet you excelled in English!

Troublesh00ter's avatar

And she still DOES excel, in English and other issues!

Black Hole and DM mourner's avatar

All compliments should go to DM's ashes 😊

Black Hole and DM mourner's avatar

Final high school exams : history 16/20, English 15*, French 13 or 14*, no biology** in Bac Pro, it was replaced with more English. I didn't bother to study for those, I knew I would have them. I didn't study maths either, it would have been useless 🤣

* You can laugh.

** Always had "A" or grades between 17 and 20/20.

cdbunch's avatar

I'm a native speaker and English was my worst subject, until college and then I took history and they made it so dry and boring (I tried to study for a test, by page 3 I was falling asleep) that I earned a D.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Mine were practical engineering courses (RARE back in the early 70s!) and, interestingly, psychology, where I did fair to middling.

larry parker's avatar

I can fix it faster than that - circular file. : )

Kay-El's avatar

Gruenhagen is under the impression that no one reads bills. He’s probably right in that his constituents don’t but better minds than his do and he isn’t fooling them.

Zizzer-Zazzer-Zuzz's avatar

His constituents probably can't

Joan the Dork's avatar

He's probably never even read the entire bill himself. Most of these things are cooked up by right-wing think tanks and handed off to Republican legislators fully drafted and simply needing the byline filled in.

Kay-El's avatar

I’m sure you’re correct. It’s why they can’t answer questions about their legislation in any coherent manner.

Crowscage's avatar

Usurpation like that needs to be harshly punished.

avis piscivorus's avatar

A better bill should be:

"To advance critical thinking skills in schools, a school district must provide instruction to students of all ages exploring the contrast between the scientific method and religious dogma and also train them into detecting and avoiding any attempts to indoctrinate them."

Bagat's avatar

And laugh at the kkkrister screams of "persecution. They are, after all,, Murka's most persecuted majority.

Lynn Veit's avatar

The Ryan Walters mind sickness has mutated and COME TO MY ADOPTED STATE. I LEFT FLORIDA TO GET AWAY FROM THIS FUCKING BRAIN-DEAD BULLSHIT!!!!!!!

So...we go back to the days of the Black Death being God's judgement against an insufficiently religious European populace, wherein He infected the fleas that bit the rats that carried the plague, that killed the folks that lived in the house that Jacques built?

No need to fund medical research anymore, you people just better start living right and glorifying God.

larry parker's avatar

You're right. God gave me bad knees. I should shut up and suffer in pain.

Lynn Veit's avatar

I was being sarcastic. The only one who should shut up and suffer in pain is Gruenhagen. That'll last about a New York minute before he's off to the best medical facility in Minnesota seeking relief. Whereupon, I hope he is questioned repeatedly about the ethics of his decision to seek out medical help. given his blatherings on the subject of "pain as punishment."

"Sir, what did you do to merit this affliction? Should we alert the authorities? Shouldn't your minister be handling this?"

larry parker's avatar

"I was being sarcastic." - Me too. : )

Lynn Veit's avatar

Ok. :) Didn't want anyone here to think I wanted them to suffer.

Black Hole and DM mourner's avatar

Even though Gov. De Satan makes national news with his antics? Wow, Michigan folks must be really optimistic. Any state has the potential to become Florida under the right circumstances. Currently, Texas is leading the pack.

cdbunch's avatar

Don't remind me. Part-time legislators and they spend their time worrying about what's between your legs and what you're doing with it, instead of preparing the state's energy grid for the air conditioning demand that will be starting next month.

Black Hole and DM mourner's avatar

Allons, I am sure fled cruz has already prepared his escape in a tropical paradise.

Joe King's avatar

The Florida part is in the west and north of the state. I hope that it doesn't spread.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

CRIPE! Gruenhagen has mistaken canalized thinking for critical thinking, and he hopes to put this over on Minnesota? I'm pleased to see that it DIDN'T go over and particularly that Tim Walz wasn't having any of Gruenhagen's BS.

Still, doesn't change the fact that the GOP and Christian Nationalism are still sleeping in the same bed. Have to wonder, though: who's top and who's bottom??? 🤪

Black Hole and DM mourner's avatar

Thinking he could pull the wool over Mr Waltz's eyes, is the epitome of estúpido.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

I have liked Tim Walz from the first I heard him talk. Plain-spoken, no bullshit, just-folks kind of guy ... man, he was refreshing! Still is, too!

cdbunch's avatar

I'm kind of hoping, assuming there is an election, that Gov. Walz runs for POTUS in '28. I know there are plenty of qualified women, but John Q. American apparently thinks a penis is a job requirement still.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Walz would be terrific as President. So would Pete Buttegieg, though being gay, he has baggage he SHOULDN'T have. I think AOC is old enough to run, and watching her go after Trump or Vance would be FUN! There are a few other folks, too, though names don't come to mind right now.

What we have to do NOW though:

1. File a motion to impeach Trump. It won't go anywhere, but it WILL get Republicans on the record.

2. Use Keith Olbermann's suggestion and poll on the necessity of a RECALL ELECTION on Trump. Again, no practical result, other than to show Donnie just how unpopular he and his stooges are.

3. CONTINUE BEING VOCAL!

ericc's avatar

I'm gonna say I hope AOC doesn't run. She's got the cooties as cdbunch points out. But maybe more importantly, from what little I know she's way more progressive than the average voter, so I'd be afraid she'd lose based on her policy positions. 2024 showed us some of the electorate is still badly sexist, yes, but I think it also showed us it's not as left as many, and possibly most, Democrats. The Dems are going to need a moderate.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

You may be right. Seems like the Overton Window moves to the right a LOT easier than it does to the left. The solution has to be as Ted Arroway put it to his daughter:

"Small moves, Ellie, small moves."

Joe King's avatar

Walz/AOC '28, Walz/AOC '32, AOC/warm body '36.

cdbunch's avatar

Walz steps down in May of '35, so by the time the U.S. has to vote on AOC, they've had a woman President for a year and half and can see that the sky hasn't fallen.

Black Hole and DM mourner's avatar

'Tite question about your Constitution. Is there a law that prevent a former President to run as Vice ?

Claudia's avatar

I like Tim Walz. Based on what I've seen and heard of him.

At the moment he seems to do quite a few town hall events in places, where the local representative is too feart to turn up.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

He has indeed been doing just that: engaging people and LISTENING to them (shock and amazement), something that Republican reps are scared shitless to do.

It's entirely possible that the people attending those town halls will remember that, come election day.

Lynn Veit's avatar

Walz is a good guy with common sense. Everybody I know, people who have lived here far longer than I, have good things to say about him.

Joe King's avatar

Gruenhagen's idea to push it through is to not mention which creator he wants the schools to force on the students. He thinks it sounds completely neutral by not mentioning Original Sin as his god's reason for making disease and death etc. happen. He's not fooling anyone.

Black Hole and DM mourner's avatar

A Creator who created everything by his speech ?

Of course it's Ptah.

Guerillasurgeon's avatar

Maybe they should put in more practice?

larry parker's avatar

They prayed to get better, but that didn't help.

cdbunch's avatar

On Men. Need to be specific with these folks.

Bagat's avatar

Frankenpope must be loose as a goose. Prolly far looser.

Holytape's avatar

Sorry, there was a slight typo in the bill. It should read "critical of thinking", instead of "critical thinking". Again, I apologize for the confusion. And by apologize, I mean get back to the salt mines, you subhuman servants!!!!!

Linda's avatar

So many Trojan Horse bills popping up around the country. The “normalization” of it all is and has always been most alarming. One has to wonder why these fine folks need to rely solely on trickery and deception to make any ground.

ericc's avatar

It's pretty standard for state lawmakers to use the spring to introduce all their crazy religious or social bills. Mostly with little expectation any of them will pass - it's just for their reelection campaign. They don't start to work on important stuff like the state budget until the legislative session starts to tick down and they have to.

Joe King's avatar

So, basic virtue signaling? We should probably call it vice signaling.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Or bullshit signaling, if you prefer.

ericc's avatar

Tribal signaling. It's all about making the constituents think you care about their issues.

cdbunch's avatar

After your propaganda mouthpiece tells them what their issues are.

Linda's avatar

Right, excellent PR. They will also reintroduce the same bills over and over until the shock wears off and one slips through. Lawmakers in several states have introduced bills that would allow authorities to charge people who obtain abortions with homicide. Some of these states have the death penalty as well. Barely any news coverage.

Claudia's avatar

Apart from @Jessica Valenti. I recommend subscribing to her substack.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

Yep she's the best, I restack her every day.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

It's essentially the political / governmental equivalent of the "Gish Gallop:" They attempt to overload the process with bogus bills on the bet that one or more of them might actually get through

Pernicious as hell, and it's actually working in places.
