Ash needs to take a step back and consider how her actions are hurting others. Maybe she can get some help from an organization that preaches how to be a good person.

What's that? Ash is male and Christian? Too bad I decided that I will call her a heathen, as MY religion says I have to.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

It would be nice if Ash could understand that his behavior hurts others, but he doesn't care. To him, trans people aren't human; they're TARGETS, to be used to punch down on and abuse, because to his fellow bigots, that's perfectly okay.

Problem is, to the rest of us, IT AIN'T.

You got to remember that according to this preacher and other Christian Nationalists rednecks a true American is: white (European descent), Christian (evangelical, but other Protestants are ok), conservative (fascist), republican (Trump supporter).

All others are considered non human to be used, abused, or killed like vermin with out any consequences. Be prepared for the rednecks to use violence to achieve their (rednecks) goals, we (non magas) might have to use violence to protect ourselves/love ones and to overthrow this fascist regime. Stay sharp and be ready!!!

There is absolutely nothing that cannot be, and has not been, justified in the name of a deeply held religious belief. Who gets to determine the sincerity of those beliefs? The person making the claim? What a can of worms that would be. Conservative Christians are the first people to claim they're being persecuted any time they are blocked from forcing their views on others. They are also the first people who would persecute others if given the chance.

Treating other people like shit isn't a tenet of any known religion. Your 'faith' doesn't give you the right to be an asshole, tell your boss you intend to keep being an asshole, then getting fired for being an asshole. Ash was fired for being an 'ash', not for being a christian. Another example of religious whiny babies playing the 'show me the money' game.

I don't think it is a sin to ban books. I don't think sin is real. It is morally wrong to ban books. Full stop. Are there books that are inappropriate for certain groups? Sure. I wouldn't lend my copy of 𝘈 𝘉𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘧 𝘏𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦 to an average 5th grader. Their reading comprehension level isn't quite high enough yet.

Calling not buying books for a public library effectively banning them is disingenuous at best. Public libraries have limited budgets and limited shelf space. What books does Perkins think the library is refusing to buy that he wants them to? He can buy them himself and donate. Making them hard to find? Nope. Pretty much every public library has computers connected to the internet. Google is a thing now. Pretending a book doesn't exist? When has that happened. Hey Tony: interlibrary loans are a thing. You could go to just about any public library and borrow a copy of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘛𝘶𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘳 𝘋𝘪𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴. We all know that's the kind of book you want available.

Whatever happened to church libraries? Are they still a thing? Maybe Miss Lulu Asshhole could start one at his "church" (from the looks of it in that photo, though, it looks like some sort of small town shared community center space, so prolly nowhere to shelve the books).

My church had a library for a while. It was open for about 15 minutes between Sunday School and church, and for a few minutes after church. The raciest thing it had was the entire vintage hardback collections of both Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys Mysteries. I read every last one and liked to imagine myself driving around in a blue Roadster looking for clues or piloting the Sleuth across the water in Bayport, chasing bad guys. I spent a lot of time in the school library during lunch thumbing through reference books, looking for a picture of a Roadster so I could envision it more fully. 🙂

Or maybe, since Asshhole thinks the public library isn't doing a good enough job, he could open his own private library and spare everyone else his hatefest temper tantrums. I'm sure the Heritage Foundation, Focus on the Family, et al, would be delighted to help out with funding.

It seems to me that a certain number of Christians have, somewhere along the way, managed to convince themselves that the world will dance to their tune if they just push hard enough. This is a mental illness, not a religious belief so far as my non-psychologist self can determine, and indulging this idea/behavior is not doing anyone any favors; articles like this one demonstrate why we need to burst that Christian bubble so very badly.

With that thought in mind, here's a link to instructions/kits for building your own little free library. Hopefully a few of these will help strike back at the ignorance, intentional blindness, and willful delusions Luke Ash and his ilk insist on pushing.
