*Waiting for NOGODZ's rant about Hemant posting way too soon*

I wonder if Professor Dave will make a video on it.

"we “didn’t even read the damn book.”

I don't have money to waste on luxury toilet paper.

"legitimizes the unscientific notion that men can become women (and vice versa)."

Seriously ? I thought a scientist would have the curiosity to read about new discoveries and research. They sounds like the anti evolutionists who whine about Darwin or the pseudo archeologists who create bullshit based on books written more than a century ago 🤦

Men don't become women and vice-versa. Trans people are born with the wrong genitalia and set of hormones, I don't see how is it complicated to understand and I am no geneticist.

Edit : I can't believe I commented before Oraxx 🤣

Krauss: The war on science are the people who don't buy my books.

Sex-pest Krauss is a piece of shit. As is every contributor to his money-grabbing tripe. There is nothing that any of those assholes can contribute to science that isn't already being said and done by real scientists who have integrity.

Racist Coyne. OMG. People transitioning is worse than climate change and the impact of unravelling health research and pushing pseudoscience onto the public? Really? WTF, Coyne.

This is a book by racist, insignificant people to trigger the right's rage-bait purchasing.

Too bad the audience he is pandering to are for the most part, illiterate, anti science morons, although their propagandists will point at the book as "proof" for their ridiculous claims.

The wider book purchasing audience are "libruls."

We need more books out there about human gender. Considering how human fetuses develop, it is amazing that any of us are fully male or female. In fact I am not sure that any of us are. And this is just from a physical point of view. Add the mind and it gets even more ambiguous. I have recently read about a 70 year old father of 4 months who was discovered to have a womb. A mother of 3 who developed from twin eggs that fused. Half of her body was XX and half XY.

I hate the way science fact is being turned into political footballs. Then the right wingers say we have to listen to both sides. Facts DO NOT TAKE SIDES. Those who say we are born male and female and that is it are denying the facts.

This false premise that Krauss promotes, that higher education promotes "liberal values", is straight out the RWNJ handbook.

The truth has a liberal bias. Always has, always will. Conservatives hate the truth because it derails their propaganda.

Science and learning have a "liberal bias" because they are evidence based.

What passes for science among RWNJs is conspiracy nuttery as evidenced by any RW "news site" and the extreme bullshit of liars like Dennis Prager and Donvict Trump.

What if the next pandemic is as deadly as SARS 1 and as contagious as SARS 2? With no vaccines or masks it will sweep through and kill 90%+ of the population.

I still have PTSD from Covid when Dear Leader demonized our city for political gain. It’s UNFORGIVABLE. 24/7 ambulance sirens and bodies piling up in refrigerated trucks outside my building as I live near a major hospital. I got sick from Covid before we knew what it was and right before lockdown. I was sick for over a month, but luckily recovered without needing to go to the ER.

Ugh, remember when we admired Richard Dawkins? I do. I admired J.K.Rowling once too. I don't just hate them both now; I also feel betrayed as hell. And yeah, I don't have much to add here otherwise. This is just completely pathetic, self-serving, cowardly bullshit. The trans community isn't waging a war on ANYTHING. They just want to be left the hell alone. Pretending that people being trans is against established science is lying, plain and simple.

You would have thought an evolutionary biologist would know a bit more about human gender issues.

And 💯 on the trans community. At the basic level, it is just individuals who wanted to be treated with respect. The Christian Nationalists are fighting a one sided war. They are the aggressors and they act like the victims. No wonder they sided with Russia over their invasion.

In psychological terms, I do not think this is very different than blaming rape victims for getting raped. I cannot fathom why the failure to conform to right-wing talking points is somehow the fault of science. Science can prove what it has to say, and the anti-science crowd can't. They derive their opinions from magical thinking and special pleading, none of which can be demonstrated to be true. Yet, somehow, they need to be deferred to?

I hate to say it, but it's pretty clear that Lawrence Krauss has completely jumped the shark. His attack on woke science is about a sensible as RFKJr's dismissal of mRNA vaccines.

One real tragedy in the midst of all of this is the blunt fact that it will take far longer to correct the problem then it did to create it. Negative entropy is always harder to create than positive entropy, or in simpler words it's a lot easier to destroy than it is to create. Between the scientific and sociological attacks being fostered and encouraged by Donald Trump, an enormous amount of damage is being done to this country, and the time and resources to normalize things will be considerable and the effort to do so difficult.

Somehow I just cannot bring myself to call Lancet, NEJM, Annals of Internal Medicine, Science , Nature or any other highly regarded Journals 'Partisan Lobby Groups.' Hemant touched on this - the political reichwing has opened Pandora's Box and let loose the evil spirits of Authoritarianism. Their (corrupted) version of Science starts out with a conclusion and then seeks 'evidence' to justify it - pretty much the inverse of real Scientific Method. They seek to take all the bothersome (to them) square pegs in society and hammer them into their neatly arranged simplistic little round holes. This may be a Djinn which cannot be crammed back in his bottle...

I mentioned yesterday about how the Christians are incurious. That itself is a tragedy. It when scientists and scholars become incurious, as these intellectually stunted supposed giants of science seem to be, that is a catastrophic disaster of epic proportions. These people are no longer credible experts, trusting folks who are not educated in science or medicine, known for having brain worms and mold poisoning, over their actual peers or betters with an abundance of melanin means that, even if they had the knowledge to gain notoriety honestly, are no longer trustworthy sources and should be treated as the internet trolls they are.

They’re hacks. That’s all they are now.

Christians and especially fundamentalist Christians can't afford to be curious. Culturing curiosity or inquisitiveness could lead to an examination of WHAT they believe and WHY.

And THAT tends to lead to questions they almost certainly won't like the answers to.

But they've often convinced themselves that they do. Shermer’s Law: Smart people believe weird things because they are skilled at defending beliefs they arrived at for non-smart reasons.
