Of course they'll appeal it, probably with ADF representing them. They'll try to take it to SCOTUS hoping for a ruling that states the safety of the students in light of the terrorist threat outweighs the First Amendment rights of the Satanists, and I'm not confident they won't get it.

Once again, "Think of the Children" is used as an excuse to trample on other people's rights.

jomicur's avatar

And if the terrorists are ever tracked down and caught, it's a cinch ADF will defend them, too.

Christian privilege runs deep in this country, and any time they are faced with equality they claim they're being persecuted. Given a free hand, they would make attendance at the Christian club mandatory.

Bagen Onuts's avatar

Try #3. The kkkatlik "church" started in with persecution since day 1. They used it against the Jews, calling them evil kkkrist killers, never stopping to think their damned mascot was immortal. How 98% of the population was persecuted by the 2% was never questioned because the "church" said so.

Bagen Onuts's avatar

The entire persecution shitthing has been use by the churc h from day 1q now it just dropped the cursor. andx Hemant waqnts me to pay?

cdbunch's avatar

The focus thing is annoying, but a bigger issue is the fact you can no longer see the first person to upvote you if 2 others have done so. That happened in the last 2 hours.

I donate to Hemant's Patreon, so he gets money no matter what platform he uses.

And despite these little bugs, it still works better than ViaFoura.

I do. I see their avatars above the comment they liked. If I have a doubt touching an avatar send me to the profile page.

Zorginipsoundsor's avatar

I don't see that. I wonder if it is a difference in browsers or devices.

Black Hole and DM mourner's avatar

I am on my phone. I have a dummy adress if you want a screenshot

Zorginipsoundsor's avatar

I receive an email for every upvote and reply.

cdbunch's avatar

I did for a little while, it generated too much mail and became annoying, so somehow I turned it off.

Bagen Onuts's avatar

Here we go again with the entire post gone becasue this outfit cannot code to put a cursor in the reply box.

Zorginipsoundsor's avatar

That, and the buttons should be reversed. Everywhere else, the post/save button is on the right side.

It's the revanche of left handed people.

Appeal? Why on Earth would they do that when their own scripture tells them to concentrate on things above and not earthly things? Right? Right?

Bagen Onuts's avatar

Easier to scream PERSECUTION!!!

Satan is a member of the Abrahamic faiths, so what's the problem? It's a character that they created!

May I say, 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗥-𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗥!!! It's far past time someone stepped up and said that the Free Speech Clause of the First Amendment does NOT just apply to Christians! This needs to happen FAR MORE OFTEN!

GOOD!

Watch xtians cry as their self-professed "privilege" is thwarted yet again.

The Christians largely lump us atheists in with Satanists, I suppose. Many of them have no ability to truly consider others as legitimate of right for their beliefs.

Guerillasurgeon's avatar

Quora is pretty much dripping with questions asking atheists gotcha questions about evolution and what have you. One or 2 people have the patience to explain that atheism simply means a disbelief in gods, and were not necessarily experts in palaeontology or biology. I don't. But Christians are definitely lumpers rather than splitters.

Zizzer-Zazzer-Zuzz's avatar

"But Christians are definitely lumpers rather than splitters."

Except amongst themselves.

Guerillasurgeon's avatar

A point I hadn't considered. 40,000+ sects right? 😇

Maltnothops's avatar

I find it depends on the agenda.

Is the US a Christian nation? They are lumpers on that one because they want their majority to be as large as possible.

What does God think about _____? Splitters for sure!

Judeo-Christian values? Lumpers, as long as no one gets too specific.

I’ve been known to inquire if the Christian god who hates gays is the same god as the one sanctifies same sex marriage.

Reading through this, it seems to me that Vlasaty knew she couldn't reject the club outright, and was hoping for an excuse. When she thought she'd found one, she acted on it immediately rather than thinking it all through all the way. In effect, the gamble here was that whoever was willing to call in a mass shooting threat wasn't also a liar willing to shoot up the school anyway; considering how unreasonable the threat of violence to schoolkids was, assuming the caller was off their rocker seems the sensible thing to think.

It seems to me that these days, Christians who call themselves 'morally superior' have entirely too hard a time playing fair with everyone else.

Bagen Onuts's avatar

tHEY ARE GREAT AT DEMEANING AND DEBASING OTHERS FOR NOT BELIEVING AS THEY DO. they love to threaten people who want no part of their suerstitious nonsense.

ericc's avatar

The initial response to the threat was pretty okay (IMO). Suspend the application, but also suspend all after-school clubs. Sure thing - you're showing an abundance of caution and treating everyone pretty much the same. Nobody meets after school hours until we know more about the threat.

It's the events *after* the threat is gone that are discriminatory and messed up.

Do these anti-transgender types have no lives at all?

EDIT for clarity

mechtheist's avatar

Well, that's pretty effed up. One thing stood out to me, the judge proved what a dishonest POS he was by sentencing the kid to jail despite his campaigning on not doing so for non-violent offenses, and also by deeming the actions as intimidating. It's one more example of a pretty much 100% guarantee that when a court rules in favor of these religious freaks/culture war mongers, it will rely on some thoroughly dishonest justifications.

cdbunch's avatar

My question is, was this the only judge available? Or did some clerk schedule him with the bigot.

Actually, I'm somewhat surprised he didn't get the full 30 days in jail.

I'm also curious if confiscating socks and underwear is standard practice, and did they give him replacements with the jumpsuit.

More likely, she goes there for the how-to-cuck your husband videos.

That would go over like a lead balloon in the more religious parts of the US, which I'm reliably told are the ones most heavily into porn.
