Authoritarian government and conservative religion are natural allies. It is a symbiotic relationship that has dealt humanity nothing but misery. No one elected this fool to impose his religious values on his state, not that the Constitution likely means much to him. It isn't limited to Christianity. Religions makes all manner of claims, not a one of which is supported by objective evidence. It renders religion inherently divisive and always has. The idea a particular brand of religion is going to solve the world's problems is dangerously stupid, and history makes this abundantly clear.
I'd suggest that anyone who was working inside the GOP since the days of the Tea Party are complicit in the Nazification of the party because that's when the Christifascist racists took full control. Republican racism didn't spontaneously combust when Donny rode down his probably unpaid for escalator in 2015.
I’m still a registered Republican. Haven’t voted for a Republican in decades. I maintain my GOP registration for several reasons.
First, I get to say stuff like, “Well, I’m a Republican and of course I’m pro-choice. What conservative thinks government knows better than the individual involved?!?!”
Second, I get to vote against the worst assholes in the primary.
Third, every so often, the party will send me a pre-paid envelope. Oh, I love those! I mail in a check — a paper check! so they have to waste time processing it — along with a trivial donation and a hand written note. This spring I mailed a check for 47 cents “in honor of the 47th president” and a note explaining that food prices hadn’t come down so I couldn’t afford any more.
That's where their love of modern convenience crashes into their science denialism and their "you can't tell me what to do" mentality. They want to 𝘶𝘴𝘦 the tech, not 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥 it.
Don't give them ideas!!! But just in case, I am offering a limited time offer for investors to jump in on the ground level on my new company,.. Holytape's Leeches and Buggywhip company.
Don't like Mamdani? Then vote for the sex pest guy. Oh, wait, you can't BECAUSE YOU'RE IN FUCKING INDIANA, DUMBASS! Can you even read a map? You're several states away from New York. So shut the fuck up and go back to eating cow chips.
Lie after lie after lie. Xtians find it very easy to violate the commandmant that forbids lying.
To Micha Dickbreath: There were only 7 Key Founders that shaped our SECULAR form of government. They included 5 Deists and one who treated his Christianity as a convenience while ignoring it the rest of the time. Only one was an orthodox Christian. And later HE as governor of New York would try to keep Catholics from running for/holding office.
It is YOU and xtians like you who are a threat to this country.
Oh, so Mamdani is trying to force his values onto New York City ... just like YOU are trying to force Christian values onto what was designed to be a SECULAR GOVERNMENT. News Bulletin, Beckwith: the United States has a SECULAR Constitution and government, despite the fact that, at one time, it had what may have been a plurality or majority of Christians. Actually, I suspect that Mamdani is trying to bring new concepts to the City that Never Sleeps and maybe breathe some new life into its streets and its people. You, on the other hand, are doing the same old Christian nationalist bullshit that too many of your ilk have tried and failed at.
I'd suggest that you try to find some new chops, but you won't.
"Chops" usually refers to a musician's pattern of improvisation or play, but it can apply to other areas. I could have said, "moves" too, and there are other synonyms which I can't think of at the moment.
It's just another example of zero-sum thinking which is a hallmark of modern-day Conservativism. This clown is trying to assert his own beliefs in order to prevent someone from asserting their beliefs. America needs to get over this idea that allowing someone to have their ideas and beliefs means everyone else has to give up their own. It's completely unreasonable.
I still say they should check Herr Miller and his bride's crawlspace, basement, and hard-drives. That's a homeless person killing, couple of serial killers if there ever was one.
When my cousin took the “updated” Florida civics teacher training a few years ago, she told me a video she had to watch lauded the “Dark Ages,” a term that normal historians no longer use. Delusional. Trump Derangement Syndrome for real.
These people’s grasp on reality has faded so completely they should all be rounded up and put on meds in a psych ward. You think demons are real? Boom. Here’s some Abilify. Think you’re talking to God? Here’s some Risperdal. Are you running off your mouth that a 22 year old woman is the Antichrist and Mordor were the good guys? Instant padded cell and financial asset forfeiture. FFS I just can’t with these people today. 🤦♀️
Frankly, Muslims are pretty far down on my threat assessment as what is a danger to my personal freedoms, human rights, liberties, and government of the people.
Oh, Christian Nationalist Micah Beckwith who thinks the abortion ban should have exceptions for rape under one condition (that the rapist be killed) also has additional opinions about morality to offer?
Btw, so-called exceptions to abortion bans have and always will be a joke. They are designed and written specifically so that no one will ever qualify for them. The purpose is to “soften” the look of otherwise cruel and hateful policies.
Maybe it’s because it’s early and I just woke up after a rough night of saving daylight, but What does Temu Seth McFarlane mean? You young people and your words! So many words!
I’m guessing that it means that Beckwith is some sort of dime store antichrist.
Can we talk about the real problem with Beckwith? He’s best friendS, practically bosom buddies from the pictures, with pastor Peternel, a prominent pastor that raised his 24 year-old son in a Christian home, only to have the son arrested for possession of child pornography, AI generated pictures of pregnant toddlers, and what appears to be his own parents having sex. At least the pictures don’t appear to include ones of his parents having sex with pregnant toddlers, so we should be grateful for some very small favors. And if I’m recalling correctly, all that child pornography and other disgusting material was found in that Christian home that the young man was raised in.
Loosey, you got some’splainin’ ta do.
It seems to me that Beckwith would be far better served, as would Christianity itself, were he to concentrate on the hundreds of Protestant pastors and catholic priests who are arrested, or convicted, or sentenced every single year for sex crimes/assaults against children, often women, occasionally men. Or the pastors putting one over by overtime with the church secretary. At least then it’s not children, only adultery. And I suppose we should also be concerned about the ones that are involved in financial scams.
OK, I admit, the overt racism, homophobia, transphobia, brown people phobia, islamophobia, unrelenting reviling and slandering (see 2 Corinthians*) are also very troublesome.
And yet, these are the people that Red State Murikans want to put into office. Red states have chosen Republican government for 50 years, and they are generally speaking at the lowest levels of every measure of social health and well-being. You would think that they would figure this out.
My own feeling as this. I’m not a New York voter. And though I have been reading about Mamdami, and he seems to be a good guy with a few questions about him, on the whole, I suspect I would vote for him over a financial scammer or a Groper. But I also know this much: I would certainly vote for him over any Republican I can think of. Because I’m very well aware of what their values are, and how very much they want to force their values, antithetical to everything that I believed to be good and true, on people who don’t share those values.
People like me.
* ironically, the very same passage in the Wholly Holy Buble that allegedly condemns something which may in a vague general sort of way be homosexuality, maybe, very clearly and explicitly condemns reviling and slandering.
Just like Black Hole stated, Temu is a website that sells cheap, inferior copies of brand name merchandise made in China, so a slang term evolved from that meaning anything that is an inferior copy of an original article. And, Beckwith has a strong resemblance of American animator Seth McFarlane, creator of Family Guy, so there's the explanation.
You seriously cannot say he is forcing his values on the USA when he gets so many more votes than his opponents. The city is choosing the values he is promoting, completely on their own, there’s no coercion involved.
Of course the republicans are good at projection. There’s a great deal of manipulation and cheating involved in their political wins, from gerrymandering, to voter suppression, to outright fraud, not to mention bait and switch (Sinema), and even allowing votes about policies and then just outright going against the will of the people (how many states voted against abortion bans but the legislatures still passed them). Who’s forcing which values you pig indignorant fuck. Every accusation is a confession. Let’s review the election that put this shit stain in his seat.
All the Republicans, especially the Nat-C subgroup, have is fear and hatred of others. Xenophobia is their brand and far too many people in this country are buying it.
The reason for all the sexism, racism, homophobia, xenophobia, etc. is that the average MAGAS don’t want to face the fact that it was their own actions and choices that got them into what ever is wrong in their lives.
It is easier to blame someone else for their bad choices and actions, rather to face their life choices. The elite members of the Christian nationalist movement has repeatedly told them that it’s not their fault (the MAGAS), but the fault of gays, atheists, immigrants, etc.. Otherwise the average MAGAS would have to do some self-reflection, introspection, and critical thinking about their choices and actions. That of course, means the MAGAS are questioning what they were taught, believe, etc, and that marks them out as not being a true believer. Plus, self growth is very hard to do and accept. So they would rather embrace the hatred and cruelty than do the most difficult thing which is to improve themselves.
Sorry, for the long spiel, but that is what I think about it. Anyway, please tell me what you think?
You are spot on. Some of my first cousins are MAGAs. They mostly married way too young, didn’t keep learning (whether formally or otherwise), chose to live in areas with limited opportunities for making a good living, etc. I don’t see them often but when I do, their bigotry is open and their ignorance is obvious.
ETA: one has an autistic son and blames vaccines. They are pretty much central casting MAGAs.
I too have family (who live in Canada) who wish Trump was there Prime Minister. In my extended family (in their mind) I am considered mentally retarded, because I don’t believe in their goddybitch/jeezyboy/flying turd nor vote conservative. Then again, my extended family hasn’t read a book since they left high school, nor has applied themselves to gain new skills. So when we do get together (which is very rarely) the hatred of anyone different is so thick in the air you can almost taste it. It is sad, that they can’t realize that they are in this position by their own action and thinking!
The “being retarded” thing is interesting. I suspect the MAGA cousins regard the rest of us as elitists. We have succeeded in all the usual American ways. Good colleges. Lawyers, nurse practitioners, IT specialists, financial professionals, speech pathologist. We live in nice houses rather than double wide trailers. I’m pretty sure they know we aren’t dumb. (I have 25 first cousins so the N is good sized for both groups.).
When we get together for an occasional reunion, they bitch and moan and I don’t engage. Again, your first comment nailed it.
My BIL has a PhD but has completely given himself over to MAGA. He has Faux News pour into his ears until it spills out of his mouth. When I call him out on it, he claims he doesn't watch it at all. That's when I usually ask him how he knows their latest talking points.
He's also always been antisemitic and raised my nephew to be the same. I did one of those ancestry tests and it turns out I'm 0.6% Ashkenazi Jew. I pointed out to my nephew that since I'm 0.6% Jewish, then his mother is also, which makes him 0.3% Jewish. He screamed for me to never say that again. I guess he's afraid the other Nazis won't like him.
I rarely interact with my extended family, one does get tired of being talk down too (in their mind I am mentally retarded), yet I read on subjects they consider unnecessary such as art and architecture, classical literature and music, science and history, etc. Remember that the more ignorant a MAGA is, that MAGA is more a “true” believer in their mind (I use that term loosely).
I don't have anything to do with the republikkkans in my family, so I dunno if I can offer much. They are all educated professionals. One told me that if Obama became prez, he would turn the entire world Muslim. So, no contact since '07. Another got kid to join the military because he was in danger of not graduating from college (party school). Kid went to Iraq. Coulda just switched schools. A third argues before SCOTUS, supporting the most awful stuff.
It's hard listening to somebody who just lies about everything, and religion is just the disguise he's using. The problem is, they’re getting away with it. There is a separation of church and state. There is not one Christian value that was needed to settle this nation or create it. In fact, it became great in spite of religion's interference. Our third president wasn't even Christian, and the Americans of the time voted for him.
Authoritarian government and conservative religion are natural allies. It is a symbiotic relationship that has dealt humanity nothing but misery. No one elected this fool to impose his religious values on his state, not that the Constitution likely means much to him. It isn't limited to Christianity. If their argument is that we must keep the nation in the 1700s, maybe they should remove access to trains, cars, electricity, internet… 🤦♀️
They are starting with books bans, so your comment is not that far fletched.
They want to keep the modern tech. They don't want to go all the way back to late 1700s America. They seem to prefer mid 1930s Germany.
Anti-vax and anti fluoride campaigns getting traction with republicons is not what I call keeping modern technology.
That's where their love of modern convenience crashes into their science denialism and their "you can't tell me what to do" mentality. They want to 𝘶𝘴𝘦 the tech, not 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥 it.
Don't forget about getting rid of the AR 15 and non-property owners not being able to vote....
Or women not being able to vote. 😐
Oh, they want that one really badly.
Indoor plumbing.
Modern vaccines.
The "primitive Baptists" eschew that already.
Don't give them ideas!!! But just in case, I am offering a limited time offer for investors to jump in on the ground level on my new company,.. Holytape's Leeches and Buggywhip company.

I'm gonna need to know more about the whip stuff. First, will I like it?

Someone at Christian Post “explained” the commandment about lying applies only when you are under oath. Common lying is not banned by god.
And that is incorrect. It used to be strictly when under oath but now applies to lies across the board.
I sure wish Christianity would pick one story and stick with it.
Actually, I really enjoy all the “you’re not a real Christian” bickering amongst the CP commenters.
Ever read the bible cover-to-cover? Massive amount of contradictions. Little wonder they can't keep their story/stories straight
Over 3,000 contradictions.
https://www.lyingforjesus.org/Bible-Contradictions/
It's not contradictions, it's different authors making different points (source dimwit genocidaire).
He was biblesplaining, eh?
I have read it cover to cover. Yes, I’m a masochist.
But as the joke goes, reading it in full moved me right along toward atheism.
"What harm could it do if a man told a good lusty lie in a worthy cause and for the sake of the Christian Churches?" ~ Martin Luther
Did you thank him for lying about that?
I shoulda!
Considering that Yahweh lies his ass off throughout the bible, who is really surprised?
Oh, so Mamdani is trying to force his values onto New York City ... just like YOU are trying to force Christian values onto what was designed to be a SECULAR GOVERNMENT. Anytime I see an uber xtian waxing pathetic (especially when they attack LGBTQs), I long to see their browser history.
"uber xtian" - No thanks, I'll take the bus.
I wouldn’t want too, too horrible! On other hand the police should definitely take a look!
I still say they should check Herr Miller and his bride's crawlspace, basement, and hard-drives. That's a homeless person killing, couple of serial killers if there ever was one.

Temu is a cheap Chinese brand selling shit products.
Just like the orange turd selling his cheap products to the MAGAS!
Just like Black Hole stated, Temu is a website that sells cheap, inferior copies of brand name merchandise made in China, so a slang term evolved from that meaning anything that is an inferior copy of an original article. Once again: "Judeo-Christian" is a made up term employed by Christians and Christians alone.
That’s not fair. I use the term Judeo-Christian all the time. For example,
“ Judeo-Christian values blow dead dogs.”
And the dog, being dead, doesn't even get to enjoy it.
please leave innocent dogs out of this 🍸
