They warned of the approach of the anti-Christ for centuries, then when he showed up, . . . they voted for him. Never trust religious extremists to protect your rights and freedoms. They know what's best for you, and will make your decisions for you.
It really is one of the basic tenets of Catholicism, of which I am too familiar. Not only is Shitler a real life anti-Christ standing right in front of them (continuously passing fetid gas), he has been elevated to a saint like status as a reward for his embarrassing behavior.
Trump appeals to some very gullible people, eager to be led. The evangelicals were foolish enough to believe Trump had their backs and would share his toys with them. Trump values people to the extent he finds them useful, and not an iota more. I don't think they're capable of learning, even the hard way.
Nixon’s White House lawyer John Dean (an old-line conservative) wrote a 2006 book called "Conservatives without Conscience" (a play on Barry Goldwater’s famous "Conscience of a Conservative"), in which he cited the sociological research about “authoritarian personalities”.
Basically about ⅓ of the American populace thinks it’s only fitting and proper to have a strong father figure making all the important decisions, because it provides a sense of security and finality. Of those, 99% are sheep looking for a border collie and the other 1% are sociopathic megalomaniacs convinced that it’s their own (sometimes divinely ordained) destiny to BE that great, noble leader.
I had occasion to know two people who knew John Dean. One knew him as an under grad, and a psychiatrist who wrote the book Dean used to prep David Frost for the Nixon interviews.
The late Bob Altemeyer wrote about the authoritarian personality as well, and put his book online for free before he died: https://theauthoritarians.org/
Was all of this evangelical foolishness (jumping into bed with the anti-Christ) really to end abortion and save babies, or did they see a fool in power that would help their church and it’s followers become more powerful?
These people rarely do the right thing, because it's the right thing. They are driven to exercise dominance over other people, and I think they saw Trump as a means to that end.
It's not just the evangelicals, though. Opus Dei does human trafficking (see Gareth Gore's book), and the Federalist Society created by Leonard Leo has taken over the Supreme Court.
The systematic sexual abuse of children has been the Catholic Church's dirty little secret for centuries. The only positive thing about this is that it is now being taken seriously by law enforcement, and members of the clergy are no longer being allowed to hide behind their Bibles and clerical collars.
It seems like every single religion has had a sex scandal. It's almost as if giving power to someone who claims to represent or speak for a god is inherently corrupting.... /s
Of course they voted for him. They do not get that they are the Pharisees and teachers of the law in Matthew 23.
Almost every instruction that Jesus has given them, they do the exact opposite. They also are just as materialistic as those who are not religious, if not more so.
First thought: that makes no sense whatsoever. However heinous the rape was, the rapist generally isn't the one making the abort decision. Now if we're talking some 'sex trafficked and force fed an abortifacent in a state where foetuses count as citizens,' okay, that's murder. But he's not limiting his position to that.
Second thought: oooh, that's right, these people don't recognize that women have agency. They think the rapist is responsible for the decision because to them, the woman victim is just a passive piece of meat with no decision-making power, as thoughtless as a flower wilting in the heat.
The agency I'm talking about is the choice to abort (or not). Outside of the 'forced abortifacient' scenario, it makes zero sense to say the rapist is making that decision. Unless one is such a misogynist that one assumes women don't make decisions, they just unthinkingly react to what men (the actual decision-makers) do.
This degree of certitude and irrationality only happens when people convince themselves they are operating under divine sanction. Evidently, this dangerous fool is convinced his putrid religiosity entitles him to a say in other people's personal choices. I expect he's only 'pro-life' on the issue of abortion, and only then because he sees himself as entitled to control women.

It would be my pleasure to provide him with that care, Jo. I’m not a psychiatrist, but have been listening to Mehmet Oz discuss how the appearance of one’s turds is an accurate indicator of overall health, so I feel capable of making an assessment about all things “health” now.
On the front page of my newspaper this morning there was a large color photo along with a large headline that read "Young, old and sick: Palestinians in Gaza are dying of starvation."
Anyone who truly believes that Nentanyahu and his forces are somehow NOT engaging in genocide against innocent Palestinians is not only foolish, but vile.
You missed the most important bit: the US of A is backing Nentanyahu up completely despite the protest of just about every ethical nation in the world, mostly at the behest of various Christian groups.
That’s a non sequitur if I ever saw it. Why would the LGBTQ community support terrorists who, most likely are deadly toward LGBTQ people, since they’re part of Islam. These people are always just throwing everything they don’t like together to make their perceived enemies seem worse than they are and them seem like they’re saints. Like MTG saying the corporations are communist, socialists, all three things are contradictory, but since she’s aggrieved she is the hero for pointing it out.
Christian Nazionalists tend to equate opposition to the Zionist genocide against the Palestinians being carried out by the Israeli government with active support for the goal of Hamas to wipe out Israel. They cannot understand nuance. They cannot see anything past a simple binary. In this case, they see Israel = good and Hamas = bad, so if not pro Israel (good) therefore pro Hamas (bad).
Yeah, nuance like Netanyahu funding Hamas in order to lead to this opportunity to wipe out Palestine.
I support the people of Palestine and I don’t support Hamas, I support the people of Israel and all Jewish people, but I don’t support Netanyahu or his army. Just as I would hope other countries support the people of the USA but not Trump and his administration/regime.
Absolutely. It is not Anti Semitism to call out atrocities carried out by the IDF. What they are doing is killing innocent civilians and in turn endangering Israeli civilians.
Those who want to end the war are acting on behalf of people caught up in this, regardless of nationality or religion.
You have to remember that Christian nationalists support goes only so far as to help usher in the second coming of jeezyboy. The Christian nationalists will support Israel to take over all of Palestine so that all the Jews will return to the Holy Land.
This includes Jerusalem, which the Jews will rebuild the Temple. Then jeezyboy supposedly will come back. The Jews will then have to choose to convert to Christianity or be sent to hell. That the real reason Christian Nationalists support Israel, not because it is a beleaguered nation.
Yet, the Christian Nationalists will ignore actual acts of antisemitism such as giving the nazis salute at the Republican National Convention, or making the claim that the Jews using lasers to start forest fires (a variation on its the fault of the Jews), and I am sure everyone here can think up other incidents.
Side question: If all the Jews have to return to the holy land to set off the second coming of jeezyboy, what happens if there are Jews that don’t want to return to the holy land? Does that mean jeezyboy never comes back? (Of courses if it exists at all).
I'm old enough to remember that there were at one time journalistic standards. Now the information pipeline is filled with shit, as Steve Bannon wanted. Any imbecile with access to a podcast can spew all the verbal diarrhea they wish, including in this case, a Lt. Governor.
I live in Illinois. People say that when to travel to Indiana, don't forget to set your watch back. Thirty years. We're going to have to revise that to 300 years.
You don’t hear much about Indiana, besides their love for basketball. Born and raised in another “now fascist state,” Ohio, I always thought Indiana was a reasonable place. But now, it resembles quickly degrading Missouri and Ohio. For once the MAGATS sunk their rotting teeth into those places, they became 3rd world living disasters for their citizens.
For me this gives away the game. To be "pro-life" but to allow, encourage, or show glee at another human being murdered by the state is to be an obvious hypocrite. One cannot have it both ways but MAGA Christians do not see their hypocrisy here or on many other subjects. But I don't think it really is hypocrisy, I think they are not actually pro-life but pro-punish-people-who-don't-follow-their-made-up-rules. I don't think they have even thought about what the words "pro-life" means, just like many of the words in their own bible.
It is, and always had been, about 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙡. They want strict control over everyone's behavior. They want to force conformity to their narrow little ideas about what a human is allowed to be and do.
The "pro-life" stance is not about protecting life, but about forcing women into the role of subservient brood mare, since that is what they think their ancient holy book tells them. They dress it up in the emotionally manipulative "save the baybeez!" rhetoric that plays so well with the rubes, but underneath it all, there is the element of control.
Kind of difficult to get that message through when they admit that nothing can possibly change their minds, since they believe god gave them a mandate for control.
They still haven't gotten the message their own so-called savior gave them 2000 years ago; the chances of them catching a clue about anything more recent than that are pretty abysmal.
The average Christian nationalist doesn’t understand any of the words they toss around, they just understand what they been told by their leaders and clergy. Here is an example of what a right wing conservative called me: He said I am a fascist, communist, Satan worshipping atheist, and an imperialist, hippie. As you can see this conservative didn’t know what any of these words mean, except that these words were bad. The magas don’t understand nuance or that the world is more complicated than the magas binary thinking.
Re: your right-wing acquaintance, I'd say: "That's interesting, coming from a clueless, gullible, uninformed, True Believer who will sop up ANYTHING your dear leader says, without question, never mind utterly failing to see how his actions are against your best interests."
They do not think. I saw a poster on Breitbart the other day talking about people who blindly follow leaders. Talking about Democrats of course. This is a cult, pure and simple, where they do not have to think.
What worries me is a similar cult is developing here in the UK around Nigel Farage. If we are not careful he will be the next PM. Of course, we think it will never happen. But it did happen in the USA. Twice. And with the way our voting system is working, he might only need 40% or less of those who vote to vote Reform.
And Farage is a misleader. Great ideas include letting those who live outside the UK but pay taxes could pay £250,000 and pay no more for 10 years.
Just as bad as Trump and his big, ugly, stupid bill. Cut taxes for those who do not even notice them and partly pay by cutting vital healthcare.
The thing is Reform currently have 4 MPs yet the press including the BBC give him lots of attention. Almost like a lot of rich people want them to win the next election.
There is a laundry list of Republicans who started out attacking and castigating Trump before he gained the presidency, then turned around and kissed his ass without let. Seems as though there's plenty of hypocrisy to go around.
We seriously need a whole new word for the brand of total, all-devouring hypocrisy particular to the modern Republican. It goes well beyond mere self-contradiction or a simple double-standard; it's a positively Orwellian ability to completely shift gears, all the way from fifth to reverse, while 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘩𝘰𝘸 not stripping every single gear in their mental transmission from the catastrophic whiplash of cognitive dissonance. Ordinary, everyday hypocrisy is bad enough, but 𝘙𝘦𝘱𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯 hypocrisy just about defies the fucking laws of 𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘴.
An eye for an eye. A tooth for a tooth. A life for a fetus... The problem is people in a modern (supposedly) society still trying to impose Bronze Age, Middle-Eastern societal norms and 'morality' on everyone in this society. And it is only the christianist Patriarchy seeking to do this. And, their utter and total inability to tolerate women having any say in what happens to their bodies... There are still goons like this who think children and wives belong to their fathers and husbands.
Christianity was born in the first century and maintains many of the prevalent attitudes that existed at that time. They simply cannot successfully progress to a point where their religion includes “humanity.” Of all Jeebus’ teachings, humanity is the most widely ignored. Why? Cuz it’s the bit where you have to care about others, something they are completely incapable of.
They disparage empathy and think it is a sign of weakness. I.e.- the only reason he wants his daughter’s rapist executed is that she is no longer worth as much to him.
After rewatching the interview, Beckwith wants the victim to be able to get an abortion. Then he wants the rapist to be charged with 1st-degree murder as well as rape. It's like Hemant said, "And since the timelines for an abortion and executing someone are completely different, what happens if, after the woman obtains the abortion, the death penalty case against the father falls apart? Would the mother then be punished in some capacity? "
Good Night, Irene! Violence Porn and Justice Porn (if you can call this "Justice" at all!), all wrapped up in a neat little package. I have to wonder what Beckwith's history is, that he would want to see his state act out in the manner he suggests. Certainly, rapists deserve punishment, but there is frequently the matter of CATCHING THEM FIRST. There's also the business of DUE PROCESS, something Beckwith seems willing to pretty much dispense with, never mind a trial. His view of justice, like so many other issues with radical Christians, is reductive, cut-and-dried, and badly simplistic.
And his people wonder why we look at him and those like him aghast.
Even when these pedo’s are caught the punishment rarely fits the crime of destroying a child’s life. Let’s start with some national sentencing guidelines for child abuse that have some teeth! Not bloody likely when our POTUS IS A PEDO.
No, conservatives have very consistent rules for it. In good standing in our tribe, thou shalt not kill. Disobey the tribe or not part of it, kill away and in fact we encourage it.
Funny how this delusional self-righteous bigot gets out there and claims to believe in abortion to save the life of the mother. NOT ONE of them does. They want to criminalize all abortion (to be classified as homicide) and in several states have already brought forth bills to do so (including states with the death penalty). The pregnant person is just a vessel to be discarded after completion of their duty and God’s will.
You cannot claim something is murder and pretend no one will be punished (relax, just doctors). After all, inflicting punishment or practicing cruelty is Christians favorite activity.
Xtians won't have a rapist executed when they can elect them to office.
They warned of the approach of the anti-Christ for centuries, then when he showed up, . . . they voted for him. Never trust religious extremists to protect your rights and freedoms. They know what's best for you, and will make your decisions for you.

Yes.

First thought: that makes no sense whatsoever. However heinous the rape was, the rapist generally isn't the one making the abort decision. Well. When it comes to rape, it is against the victim’s agency…?

Sorry, but I feel the Indiana Lt. Gov. needs psychiatric care!
Nothing to be sorry about, and you're right.

You are NOT alone in that assessment!
What he needs is to be dunked three times and pulled out twice.
I'd say skip the psychiatrist and go directly to a padded room. Toss the key too.
gop voters are most directly responsible for this evil idiocy. Don’t let them off the hook.

the LGBTQ community trying to support Hamas.”
What?!?
"They cannot see anything past a simple binary."
️🎯 💯
And as Hamas = bad and LGBTQ = bad, then they must support each other. Classic conspiracy theory (non) logic.

"For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong" - H.L. Mencken.
Even when these pedo’s are caught the punishment rarely fits the crime of destroying a child’s life. Let’s start with some national sentencing guidelines for child abuse that have some teeth! Not bloody likely when our POTUS IS A PEDO.
No you have it all wrong, the pedos are Clinton (both), Obama, Biden, Harris, ...... And they all LOVE pizza.
"Thou shalt not kill" is negotiable?
If you look at Yahweh's behavior, never mind his followers' actions, it ain't just negotiable, it's downright FLEXIBLE.
In some cases, it's 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆.
No kidding. Remember that poor schmuck who tried to HELP steady the Ark of the Covenant when one of its carriers tripped?
I'm not certain there are sufficient words to express what a jack-fuck-sonofabitch Yahweh is ... PRESUMING it is.
So flexible it makes Stretch Armstrong, Elastigirl, and Mr. Fantastic jealous.
As George Carlin said, "It's all about who's doing the killin and who's getting killed."
No, conservatives have very consistent rules for it. In good standing in our tribe, thou shalt not kill. Disobey the tribe or not part of it, kill away and in fact we encourage it.
They could care less. They have been chosen by god,
In Christianity neither morality nor religion come into contact with reality at any point. "The Antichrist". - Friedrich Nietzsche
Once again, the Lord told me that this guy…
Funny how this delusional self-righteous bigot gets out there and claims to believe in abortion to save the life of the mother. NOT ONE of them does. They want to criminalize all abortion (to be classified as homicide) and in several states have already brought forth bills to do so (including states with the death penalty). The pregnant person is just a vessel to be discarded after completion of their duty and God’s will.
You cannot claim something is murder and pretend no one will be punished (relax, just doctors). After all, inflicting punishment or practicing cruelty is Christians favorite activity.
