It begins with the Catholic Church's fundamentally irrational view of human sexuality. I don't care if priests are gay. I always assumed most of them were, and most of them don't hurt anyone. This effort is more about the sexual hypocrisy of the church than anything remotely moral.

Expand full comment

The Catholic Church has far too many skeletons in its wide open walk-in closet to ever be considered remotely moral. Not just centuries of molesting children all around the world, but residential schools, crusades, financial graft, witch hunts, and numerous other morally corrupt policies and actions throughout its long history. It has rarely been on the right side of history or any moral question. This is just another data point in the study of the immorality of Catholicism.

I walked away from the church over half a century ago, and never regretted it. What little faith I had left was dangling by a thread when I listened to an idiot priest in Vietnam give us a kill a commie for Christ pep talk. He thought we had been chosen to defend the church from the godless communists. All we wanted to do was survive and go home.

What this article tells me, beyond anything else, is the utterly distorted priorities the Catholic Church has set regarding just WHAT sins they want to investigate and how. It's eminently clear that they are apparently far more interested in going after gay priests, who are likely doing little to no harm, than they are in the pedophiles in their numbers. The intolerable damage those predators have done to children worldwide has been documented more ways than I could count, yet it would seem as though that warrants less of their attention than a priest who desires some intimate company.

Vatican City desperately needs to pull their individual and collective heads out of their asses and recognize that their skewed view of what needs to be corrected in their ranks requires some serious rethinking.

Interesting, considering that the RCC has had several dioceses sued virtually out of existence by victims of priest-child sexual abuse. I will continue to assert that the REAL shame is that the price has yet to be extracted of the actual perpetrators, in terms of jail time and personal financial restitution, with VERY rare exceptions. If Vatican City has come to the rescue of any of them, it's news to me.

And until the penalties for the Church's sexual predation of children become as personal as they have been financial, the abuse will continue.

For Jesus, Inc.'s Catholic subsidiary, sexual predation is simply a cost of doing business.

Thing is, they haven't actually been sued out of existence. They've been sued to the point where they've had to declare bankruptcy. That doesn't mean they no longer exist; it just means they're off the hook for paying their creditors and VICTIMS. And that's hardly anything to feel good about.

Anybody ever wonder why the Jihadist Muslims have never attacked Vatican City? It's because they know this is what makes "the enemy" the enemy. And with no enemy, Islam has nothing.

If they are donating to causes whose purpose is to unwillingly out and harass LGBT people, they are not philanthropists. Philanthropy requires you do good things, promote the welfare of others, not harass and torture people because they don’t fit in your narrow world view.

Don’t lie to pretend you’re trying to protect children when all you’re looking for is adult consensual behaviors.

It's never been the sex that the RCC had a problem with. It's the consent. They'll happily mount a centuries-long global campaign to cover for the rapists in their midst, but if they discover one among them has been getting a little mutually-desired action on the side (especially if it's gay), they lose their fucking minds. People deciding freely what to do on their own dime, on their own time, with their own bodies and their own lives... that's the real evil, to them. It's no wonder- their whole religion is founded on a case of supernatural rape. It's all "obey god!" and "fear god!" and coercion with promises of eternal torture (when they're not allowed to do the real thing, that is).

It's always, always been about consent- the RCC 𝘩𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴 consent.

Fear God. That is probably the most fucked up thing about Christian theology. A supposedly "loving" Father wants his children to fear him. That isn't love. A loving father would be horrified to learn his children feared him.

I've been thinking about the Inquisition and the Crusades lately, wondering why we still use those terms. Why aren't the Crusades simply called mass murder campaigns? Even calling them wars of aggression seems too polite. As for the Inquisitors, they were serial killers, nothing more. Committing atrocities with the approval of a "divinely appointed" old sodomite is still committing atrocities, and it's high time we start labeling it honestly.

Fun fact. Research has shown that areas of Spain that was subject to the Inquisition are these days more economically backward than those who weren't. I quite often use this when people ask me why black people can't get over slavery – it's been 150 years right?

If they're tracking all of the gay priests in the country, they must have a Cray supercomputer with absolutely nothing else taking up any of its memory. An old friend of mine worked as a church organist/choir director for a time (between real jobs) and at one point he was pressured to attend some priest/bishop confab. He said he saw more hookups and gay "parties" there than he'd ever seen at any gay bathhouse.
