We at the Center for Freethought Equality PAC are actively working to get these candidates elected - we were the first PAC to donate to Rabb and other humanist candidates who came close to winning like Francesca Hong. Money talks, so we want to see more of these candidates in office, we need to open our wallets.
I will support, vote for, and/or donate to any progressive candidate that is or seems authentic in their values and policy no matter what faith or no faith. Free thought is a beautiful thing we should really rally behind much more often.
Absolutely! And we also support candidates who may be religious but are strong on the separation of church and state - like the religious allies in the Congressional Freethought Caucus and many others. You can fight for freethought no matter what you believe.
AND, if we want to change the fact that the nonreligious are 30% of America but less than 1% of Congress - if we believe we deserve to be represented at parity just like every other group in America should be - we need to invest in our community specifically.
I love this! Yes, my one requirement for any religious progressive candidate is that they have a strong belief/understanding of separation between church and state. If not, they’re out immediately!
Odd that you'd be bragging about supporting the "ban Thanksgiving" lady, lol (sorry, but she really was a terrible candidate who would have gone on to lose the general election badly if she had won the primary).
Conservative Christians see their religion as the solution to all the world’s problems while conveniently ignoring the countless horrors perpetrated in the name of their religion. This massively screwed up world is to a very large extent the work-product of believers. As long as a significant share of the human race continues to view faith in the supernatural as a virtue, I don’t hold out much hope for the long-term survival of our species.
Nones running for office? FANTASTIC! Would that we had a few in Ohio, but insofar as I can tell, NOPE. That leaves me voting for Sherrod Brown (whom I would support for ANY office!), and Emilia Sykes, who has her head in the game and makes no excuses.
Frankly, I care a LOT more about COMPETENCE than I do about whatever religious belief either of them may have, and they have both demonstrated that they give a damn. That's what counts.
Criteria for getting my vote: 1. Values line up with mine. 2. Capable of doing the job. 3. Has a chance to win. (As much as I would like to vote mostly Green Party, I must be pragmatic in the face of the two party hegemony.) 4. Religious beliefs, but inly if there are two nearly identical candidates to choose from. Mostly that is irrelevant.
The Green Party gets about as much political traction as slick tires on grass. I can't get serious about them unless someone with them gets a LOT more electable than they currently are.
The two-party system has SERIOUS problems, but for now, it's what we're stuck with.
It'll be interesting to see how things trend once Trumpy is no longer around to convince stupid/gullible folks that they're smart (and should send him money).
Presuming that Trump survives the next presidential election, he will doubtless still be holding forth on Truth Social, spewing his BS to whomever will listen, until he either has a massive aneurysm or an equally sizable M.I. On that day, I will break out the 18-year-old MacAllan and toast the end of he who might as well have been the Antichrist.
My gal got me that bottle ages back. It has one good dram left in it, which I mean to save for some kind of special occasion. Whether that's the demise of Donnie Dumb-Ass or not, I really haven't decided yet.

On the flip side of that, I am watching TN-01 with great interest. It is the reddest district in Tennessee, and While it will likely be close, Kristi Burke has an realistic chance of winning. I have seen some of the reports of her local support, and the incumbent is definitely afraid of her.
Kristi Burke is in my district and is awesome when speaking off the cuff with constituents. Her opponent Harshbarger has been a no-show in this district for too long and Harshbarger's adjudicated felon /husband is going to be seated on the Sullivan Cty Commission in Jan 5. His plea bargain with the DOJ includes a provision for them NOT to prosecute his wife who most people think was equally guilty of criminal behavior as was he. Kristi has the moral high ground religion not required.
But what if these religious folks at the top of the list mostly vote for a psychotic narcissistic felon? What does that mean? I’m so confused today. Wish I never saw this.
This data seems upside down. Willingness to vote for a felon should be at the top and a woman at the bottom (especially a Black woman)? Thank goodness there’s a willingness to vote for an atheist just slightly above a socialist. How could they? Demons are everywhere 👀
As the WCNs and evangelicals and the ongoing series of scandals and abuses involving religious groups increasingly trash how religion is seen in this country, I can see how being non-religious could be an advantage in elections. I am to the point of instantly distrusting any candidate or business for that matter which engages in what I call god-talk.
